Hey Everyone,
I need to basically download all my messages in my gmail account into my computer for safe-keeping.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

you can use outlook or thunderbird to download your email via IMAP (better then POP). all the intructions are in gmail, go to settings->forwarding and POP/IMAP

Read this:
POP
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=12103
IMAP
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75726
Options for POP/IMAP are under Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP

Hey,
Thanks everyone!
Just one more question :)
If I wanted to back up those email messages in Outlook (file format), how would I do so?
I want to put all the email messages onto a USB Key, but am having trouble doing so..
Thanks

If you want to backup all your folders, you just need to copy the .PST file from Outlook. If you goto File > Data File management, you'll see where the .PST is kept. Close Outlook before copy.
To save individual emails, open the email, goto File > Save As, and save as type Outlook Message Format
