View Full Version : Is this deal good or not? Outdoor price 34900 for 2008 Accord EX V6
wloo

It is invoice+450。
(29313+450+175+1390)*1.13-500=34900
Normally how much for license fee?
Anything I need to pay attention when I sign the document or picking up the car?
Thanks in advance

From the Honda site 2008 Accord Sedan EX-VE
Base MSRP = 31,690 the cost is 10% less (3169) = 28,521
From your numbers 29,313+450+175 = 29,938
29,938 - 28,521 = 1,417 or 31,690 x 5% = 1,584
This deal looks more like invoice plus at least 1,000 not 450.
Is the dealer converting the 1,000 gas card to 500 cash discount?
What is the dealer discounting you for paying cash instead of financing or leasing at a subsidised rate?

Could you please explain me what is the meaning of 10% less?
Is it the true cost for a dealer?
I supposed that the invoice price is the price for dealer, they pay invoice price to get the car and sell as MSRP, am I right?

A dealer saw me a document which saying Honda pays $500 only for gas card (after tax). He explained to me that the dealer pays $500, this number is from the price difference $2377 (MSRP-invoice)
$175 is the charges from government.
Sounds like I did not get a good deal?

also what is 31,690 x 5% = 1,584?

May 12th, 2008, 03:07 PM
On most vehicles from most manufacturers there is usually a 9 or 10% margin between the base MSRP and the base cost of the vehicle.
If a vehicle has a base MSRP of 30,000 the base cost is 27,000 at 10% or 27,300 at 9%.
On the options there is usually a 15% margin
If the car has 2,000 of options the cost of the options would be 1,700
.....................MSRP....................Deale r Invoice.......Difference
Base.............30,000.......................27,0 00.................3,000
Options..........2,000.........................1,7 00....................300
Total............32,000.......................28,7 00..................3,300
Frt & PDI.........1,390........................1,000.... ................390
Admin................175.......................... 75......................100
Grand Total....33,565......................29,775....... ..........3,790
Should the dealer make 3,790? Or should he make less and you save money?
Give the dealer a 5-6% profit...
What other discounts is the manufacturer giving the dealer, they have programs on a monthly basis from low finance or lease rates, to cash backs, to gas credits, and who knows what else?
AGR-1
May 12th, 2008, 03:16 PM
With all the programs that are being used, its wise to ask a lot of questions and consider a few alternatives.
If the 1,000 gas card is 500 from Honda and 500 from the dealer which 500 are you getting?
If the cost of the 3.9 lease rate is absorbed by Honda, what additional discount is available for a cash buyer?
Negotiating ove the invoice amount is the first step, making sure you get full advantage of the various programs is the next step, then you can start looking at how good of a deal.
also what is 31,690 x 5% = 1,584?
a dealer expects to make 5% of the selling price on a new vehicle.

Just go with the APA quote, start from invoice, and settle for pre-neg deal. No need to lose brain cells over a car.

That rule of thumb has served me well for the last 15 years. I have always paid around the mrsp price out the door with all fees included.

I'm thinking about buying in the States, though, the difference between US invoice and Canadian MSRP is $7000.

Sure, no warranty. But I can drop a brand new engine into it for less than $7000, so buying what amounts to a $7000 insurance policy for something as reliable as a Honda doesn't make sense.

I am considering an Accord. Not sure what model yet.
WLOO: Could you please provide invoice prices for Accord EX (auto), EX-L (auto), & EX-L V-6. Thanks. I assume prices you will quote exclude $1,390 freight/PDI.
What is this gas card? I checked briefly at the end of April with 2 sources and without haggling, they both offered ~$1,200 over invoice if WLOO's invoice price is correct for the EX V-6. i.e. I was offered $31,928 incl $1,390 freight/PDI. $31,928 - $1,390 - $29,313 = $1,225.
EX - no cash discount, EX-L had $1500 cash discount, EX V-9 and EX-L V-6 both had $3,000 cash discount.
What is the best deal anybody in GVRD managed to get?? PM me if you prefer.

accord ex v-6 msrp per honda.ca is $33,080 (incl. $1390 freight/pdi). I was offered $31,898 (incl. $1390 freight/pdi) + ac fee + pst/gst. if you pay cash, minus another $3,000 from the $31,898. if my numbers are right, this is $1200over wloo's invoice price.

That sounds like a pretty decent deal then at a bit under $33k all-in.....last time I went to the dealer to check out prices they had a $4000 cash incentive.
Anyone know of a thread that tracks these incentives over time? They seem to fluctuate quite a bit from month-to-month.

I got this invoice price for EX-L auto (4cyl), from Carcost.ca: $28,758.00 (does not include freight/PDI)
The "gas card" seems to be a $1000 Cash Incentive (it's $1000 for the 4cyl EX-L auto, I don't know if it's different for other Accords) which includes a dealer participation fee of $500 as well as Honda's participation of $500.
Carcost.ca describes it as: "The Consumer Rebate includes a dealer participation fee of $500, therefore the net worth of this program is $500. In some provinces this rebate is being promoted as a $1,000 Gas/Gift Card. This rebate can be combined with any other available Factory incentive. This offer is to be applied to the after tax amount."

I've dropped by Markham Honda couple days ago, the $1500 cash incentive seems to be available now. The $1000 "gas card", was actually mentioned to me as a discount. I was told, if I pay cash, it's $2500 discount altogether.

I am really confused about how a $1,000 gas card bonus on a purchase or lease can cost me $500. Can somebody elaborate on what is meant by "dealership participation fee"? Is this fee picked up by the dealer or me?

$1000 gas card, $500 paid by Honda Canada, $500 paid by the dealership. Now of course the dealership can play around with the numbers to take away that $500 portion from the dealership.

Hey guys!
Would anyone be able to give me the dealer cost on a 2008 Accord Coupe EX-L, EX-L-V6, and EX-L-V6-6MT??
I'm essentially looking at getting the EX-L...but if the EX-L-V6's cost is coming out to be close to the MSRP of the EX-L, then I may just go with that
Also..could anyone give me a rough idea on what the outcome would be for me to negotiate on a leased accord as opposed to a financed one? Either way I'm not paying cash, so I'm just trying to figure out where I sit in negotiating a lease as opposed to a finance deal.
Thanks!!

I was recently in the market for a EX-L V6 too.
The Gas card is $500 dealer and $500 Honda Canada.. but it's supposed to be BEFORE taxes.
If you're cash purchasing it, there's a $3000 cash back offer too. This one is BEFORE taxes too.
I would highly recommend CarCostCanada.com to get the wholesale price. EX-L V6 wholesale is $32366 (before freight/pdi and discounts).
WholeSale Price + $300 Commission + $1390 Freight/PDI - $500 Gas - $3000 (only if cash purchase) = Price before taxes.
From what I have seen at RFD, Rust Protection is a decent add-on but no-no for Extended Warranty. And for these, you can make them give you about 2/3rd of their original asking price.
