Last night I was at the Walmart supercenter in Oshawa and saw the 19" Samsung LCD TV for 299 dollars. It also has an ATSC HD tuner. The sign said it was down from 414 dollars. I had never seen it so low. I was tempted but I did not go for it. They had two brand new boxes only. They only had the white model at that price. I hope it helps someone.

so the standard black model (assuming there is one), isn't on sale? its only the white one?

is this a good deal?

They had no black ones at all on display or in box. And the white looked a tad pinkish under the lights, but that might just be my eyes.

I think this is a very good deal for the Samsung. The only reason I did not get it because I am saving up for a 40" 1080P 120Hz :)

It seems a little costly to me given a 19" monitor can be had in the $150 range.

I also really dislike funky incorrect aspect ratio resolution 1440x900 for a 16:9 panel :D

I called in to check and turns out they don't carry Samsungs in the walmarts in GVR. However, I saw in the flyer today that Visions electronics is carrying the Samsung 19inch HDTV for 299 as well.

The model they have at Wal-Mart is LN-T1953H (Black) and LN-T1954H (White) they are both on sale for 299.97. They had them both on display at the etobicoke wal-mart but had neither in stock.

The model at FS is LN19A450 (Black) and LN19A451 (White) and cost 449.99.

The only difference i can see is that the Wal-mart models have a more rounded case and have lower contrast ratio 800:1, as oppose to 3000:1 that the FS models have.

A HDTV usually has two turners, a ASTC turner to receive over-the-air high definition digital TV channels and a NTSC turner to receive over-the-air analog TV channels. It also has many inputs such HDMI, component inputs, SVHS inputs, RCA video inputs, and audio inputs.

A regular LCD monitor is lacking the turners and all of the inputs. It only has a DSub input and a DVI input to connect to a computer. Due to it lacking all the inputs, you cannot connect it to other video device, so it is not suitable to use it as a regular TV unless you always connect to your computer and your computer has a TV turner.

You can get a brand new 20.1" LCD monitor for $200 ($180 if you have coupon code) at Staples.ca this week. So you will save about $50 for buying used.

I checked the price using a scanner today and it's $299 in Toronto.

i now consider this tv was an open box, because there was a cosmetic bracket missing in the box. (there are 2 brackets for when you fix the tv on the wall. The remote was unopened and the batteries were in their plastic bag.
ALl i know is that the clerck had to call someone to authorize the new price when i was paying. For what i heard, the price change was made on monday. At that price even de display models were gone this morning 8AM.

Yeah its suppose to come with two plastic brackets to cover the wall mount, its a cosmetic thing though. the wall mount will still work without the brackets.

i wanted to ask if the display models would be cheaper, but the one at my wal-mart was in pretty rough condition. But i probably would have still taken it instead for 150...

The store I work at has like 2 or 3 in the back. I noticed we had a bunch of Samsung 19"s in the back so was about to put it out and realized it was last year's model and didn't bother. But it's a clearance item so iirc, the price match policy doesn't cover it. We can't PM Wal-Mart on it.

At FS 50" samsung plasma PN50A450 reg1799.99, I saw it on sale before. if you have choice, do not take the display model! especially for plasma. because they turn on at least 12 hours per day, if it is on display three month, it is equal 1 year to 2 year for the normal use. the nomoral life time will be 60.000 hours.
