I'm going to tonights Blue Jays game and couldn't find if backpacks are allowed. It'd only have my laptop in it along with a coat. No drinks, food, or alcohol.

Yes ... but why would you be bringing and expensive equipment like that to a crowded area. You go to the jay's game to play on your computer?

I see people walking around with $500+ cell phones all the time... I'm working on stuff with a group downtown and going to the game straight after. Also, even if I didn't have my laptop with me, I'd still ask because I always have my backpack on me since it has my coat and other things in it.

I'll post back with what happens tonight with the laptop and backpack.

They allow food and drinks in certain containers.

They allow bags smaller then 16x16x8 into the stadium.

Bags are allowed but they will be inspected from inside and outside

Only things they have a problem allowing are weapons and DSLR cameras

Not necessarily true, as I've seen numerous people take DSLR's into the stadium, as well as take picture with them during batting practice / games.

Well that would have helped had I found it earlier this afternoon. Ugh. As far as food and drinks, they forced my friend to either drink or throw out her apple juice tetra pack (it was the soft kind). So I don't know how people are getting in with stuff. They also do have a box to measure your bag, mine was bigger but they still let me in just fine.

I got in with my multi-tool. Hell, they didn't even check the section of the bag it was in (wasn't trying to hide it - completely forgot about it) and it makes my bag noticeably heavier on one side if you aren't use to my bag.

As per the laptop, they do poke around your bag slightly with what appeared to be a drum stick and when I informed them of my laptop they asked for me to turn it on and to show them the login screen. Then they wrap a tag around your bag and away you go. Pretty painless, although I'd recommend females to have their bags/purses neatly organized as them seemed to spend more time looking at them.

Went to the Jays game tonight too.

brought my Lowepro bag with my D70s in it.

The guy quickly glanced inside it, felt the bottom of it, and that was it.

I was pretty scared seeing how poor the security is. But if i can't sit down and be bored for 2 hours by a crappy sport, then the terrorists win.

Good to know! Thanks guys, heading to the game tonight afterwork... don't want to do a "u-turn" to pick up my stuff after the game and just hit the GO afterwards.

Hopefully watching baseball isn't as boring as I remember... then again these tickets were free from a co-worker :)

Hehe, oh boy i'm in for one helluva shore-fest then :) The seats are pretty decent... 100 level zone or something like that. At least their opponents are a winning team and we have a winning pitcher at the mound.

It's only boring if you have no appreciation or understanding of the sport.

no, i understand it.

And i don't appreciate it, because it's boring.

3 up, 3 down, 3 up, 3 down rinse and repeat.

that was what i saw last night.

No wonder the attendance is dwindling. With basketball, hockey and UFC and other fast paced sports, it's difficult for baseball to keep up.

Notice i didn't mention football.

Well, a boring game is a boring game no matter what sport. But, if all you're looking for is runs in a game, then no, you don't understand it.

A good defensive ball game can be great to watch as well, provided you know what goes into a good play or good pitching. The jays actually have some great defense this year.

Kinda reminds me of people who claim Soccer is a boring sport cause there's not enough scoring.

As well, Jays attendance has been improving in recent years. While it's not nearly as good as the raptors or the leafs, it's not dwindling.

Regular backpacks are allowed unless they are extremely big (aka - a hockey bag). We're pretty leniant about backpacks. However, you might be asked to check the bag at security (for pick up after the game) if it's over stuffed.

We also look to make sure you dont carry any cans/glass bottles/projectiles etc. Plastic water and pop bottles are OK if they're under 700 ML.

If you have a laptop, you'll be asked to turn it on in front of us so we can make sure it's an actual laptop and not a bomb (lol, just precautions).

Other than that... you should be fine.

PS: If you enter through the bigger gates, your bags will now be inspected outside the gates before having your tickets scanned.

PPS: Please try and enter through the indicated gates printed on your ticket. You may be turned away if you try entering a different gate without a valid reason. (Newly implemented rule - strictly enforced on Toonie Tuesdays)

I love soccer. Scoring isn't what matters its the action and fast pace. There's lots of defence, and lots of offence.

With baseball it's just sitting and watching some guys stand around and wait on one player to either hit, or strike out.

And the $2 cheapie seats on tuesdays and the new AYCE promo on the weekends, leads me to believe that they are trying to fill some seats.

in soccer sometimes the goalies just clear the ball down the field and then the players kick it around to each other's ends too.. so i think you can argue for both sports that there are some "less than entertaining" moments and some "very entertaining moments"

i prefer to watch baseball, the tickets are cheap and i guess it depends on your liking.. but honestly i hated baseball before too, until i learned more about the game, played it myself, and started to appreciate it for more than people standing around waiting for a guy to hit the ball around. i never really understood why people loved the game so much until i learned more about it, and then now baseball is my favorite sport.. i don't even watch hockey or basketball that much anymore.

Same here, actually. I gave up on the leafs years ago. I can still watch a hockey game once in a while, but I don't care for it much these days.

But ya, I gained more of an interest and respect for baseball by playing it in recent years too. It is very much a mental game. While you're just waiting around for someone to hit a ball or strike out, there is a lot going on even still. There's a lot of reading each other when it's batter vs pitcher.

No offense, but this simplistic summary of baseball shows you just don't understand it.

Obviously they are trying to fill seats. The skydome is huge and there lots of games. So as long as they're not selling out the skydome every night, then they're going to be looking for ways to get more people in the stadium. Makes sense, really.

Regardless, the actual numbers in recent years clearly show that attendance has not been dwindling. Nothing amazing, but not dwindling.
