Toronto - Tokyo - Hong Kong

I'm planning a trip to Japan and Hong Kong, probably in early September. (Are flights cheaper in September?)

What would the best way to go about this with flights. I was hoping to go from Toronto to Tokyo (stay about a week) and then to Hong Kong (for about a week).

Is it significantly cheaper to just fly from Toronto to Hong Kong and then go to Tokyo from Hong Kong (and back to Hong Kong) then back to Toronto.

It's my first time traveling alone, so I'm trying to get some ideas.

When I looked roughly a year ago, United allows you a free stopover in NRT; all you would pay are the taxes. So your journey would look something like YYZ-SFO-NRT-HKG-SFO-YYZ.

Other airlines might offer something similar, but your best bet is to call a Chinese travel agency. I expect they would deal with requests like yours quite frequently.

to have some pricing and then shop around with your local travel agencies. Airfares will be cheaper but once you see the airport charges and fuel surcharges being added, you are definitely going to think twice about the whole trip. Happy shopping. :)

Fly to HK, book a tour from there to Japan. Start booking early for HK flights get scares at that time.(cheaper ones)

I have booked this exact trip leaving in late August. I booked through toureast. YYZ to NRT via AC. NRT to HKG via ANA. The return flight also goes through NRT. The total price was $1800 (but that was before the fuel surcharge on AC, so it would be a bit more now).

The thing to note is that YYZ/NRT flights drop in price starting mid-late August, whereas YYZ/HKG flights don't drop in price until September 4th.

Although another poster suggested flying through UA, I would caution against US flights. On the way back from HK, you have to drag your luggage through US customs while trying to catch the plane back to YYZ. Depending on the airport, this could be a huge pain in the a**.

Yeah, I think I might follow your flight plan. How much more am I looking at paying with that fuel surcharge? Is it only AC, or all airlines?

toronto>hk>vietnam>hk>narito>taiwan>hk>vancouver>toronto

seems hk is the hub for all the places im going

any other way that is direct from one place to another without hk in the way is too much $

this is all on cathay airlines for june-july

I also booked the same route last Oct. YYZ - NRT - YYZ on AC001/002 on brand new B-777-300, cost me $1050 return. NRT -HKG - NRT on ANA, cost me around $500. So total return ticket cost $1550. I would assume the fuel surcharge will make the sam ticket at least 15% more now....

I did that a few years back.

If you take AA (american airlines), you might be able to stop in Japan longer. As Japan Airlines is part of AA. Last time i went back it was with AA (a lot of stops through).. Toronto to States, Status to Japan and from that *** to HK.

I actually joined a tour in HK and then from there travelled to Japan. It's cheaper and I get 5 star Hotels and almost all meals covered

If you take US plans like UA or AA they should have free stopovers. I took AA last year cuz I missed out on UA one. It cost around $1300 with 1 stopover to NRT. The negative point was it also stops again in NRT on the way back though you can't stop over. And it stops in 1 US city.
