I also had an issue while trying to access the 2 accounts I have for Car & Driver (for different people). I was able to log in Monday using the US address for the first time and submit a change of address request and obtain my account numbers. When trying to log in today using the account numbers supplied on Monday it was told me the account number was too short (only 8 digits and needed to be 9). I was able to log in using the US address and the account numbers matched what I had recorded and had entered previously, but they refused to work when trying again. I just added a '0' in front of the 7 digit account number and it logged me in, however, it showed no pending address change request (like it did on the account without the '0') and was still listed as the US address. I submitted another address change request for both accounts.

In short, you change it on the magazine's customer service website, not mercury's website. Just like you're moving and need to change your address.

So, for Maxim you'd go here: https://secure.palmcoastd.com/pcd/eServ?iServ=MDgxNUIzNTI0NCZpVHlwZT1NQUlO

You don't have to give them a credit card number so they will send you offers for renewal a few months before the sub runs out. Basicly it's up to you. Usually you can sign up again and they'll just stack the subs.

if you change your address to Cdn, and then sign up again under the same email but with a US address again, what happens?

Does it stack?
Does it revert the address back to the US one?
Or does it create a new account (which i dont think will work under the same email)
I just did it with my Maxim, (which I've never actually gotten yet)

Some publishers will automatically stack them to the changed Canadian address and some publishers won’t.

Most publishers use your subscription account number as the main key to your account. I have had numerous subscriptions of the same magazine using the same address and email and in the beginning they all have their own account number. After a while (a week or so) some of the publishers will automatically stack them and give you just one account number while other publishers will just send you duplicate copies and you need to request the publisher to stack them.

When you subscribe for free magazines with TradePub.com, does it regularly reject your subscriptions? I have subscribed for boutique DESIGN, BizBash Miami/South Florida, BizBash Toronto, and HA+D (Hospitality Architecture + Design). All these were rejected. I have been following the method described earlier in this thread, i.e. subscribe with an US address, so I'm not sure if it's because of my "address" that was rejected or some other reason. Anyone else have similar experiences with TradePub.com?

Just a quick warning, when you sign up for the free magazines, sometimes you are offered a variety of magazines for $2 year. You need to give them your credit card number to subscribe.

I did this last July and had it on my calendar to cancel the subscriptions before they renewed automatically and charged my card.

But of course, even though the renewal date is July, on June 1st they renewed my subscription for the full year price!!!

It was a huge hassle to cancel they tried to trick you and said "cancel after this cycle?" meaning after they billed me full price!!!

I literally had to spell it out......"Cancel the subscription and refund my money!!"

Anyway, just a warning to be careful and most of the $2 ones are ones that you can find for free at some point if you wait it out.

Stupid me I did this last year and have 2 charges on my master card. I looked up my Prevention account and it says expired (but as of today I still have the amount showing on my CC). My EW subscription was to be valid until next year (they charged me and now says until 2013).

*I finally phoned the company I initially signed up with and did the tricky automated cancellation to get my cc refunded for prevention**

Why oh why did I do this :(

Free Maxim
http://cdn.mercurymagazines.com/121-121604/index.html

I bought a sub to Maxim, Stuff and Blender on ebay a few years ago and as stuff and Blender went out of print they staked those subs over to my Maxim. I know have a sub until 2014 and I don't remember the last time I even looked at it.

I think I paid $5 for what has turned out to be a 8 years sub. Not bad I have to say

Does Mercury Magazines EVER return a confirmation e-mail? I've tried before and never received anything (also checked junk filters, etc)

Just wondering...

I've ordered 3 or 4 subs in the last few months and I've always received a confirmation email from them. I've yet to get a magazine but who knows with the strike going on.

HP,

How long do you normally have to wait until you get a confirmation email?

It's almost always instant. Sometimes it takes a day or two. I think it depends on the sub.

I have a question:
When completing the surveys in the free subs on sites such as rewardsgold or freebizmag, do you have to answer them realistically? by that i mean not just randomly click the buttons and type random stuff for the text questions. Do the surveys get reviewed first by the sites and you only get the subs if they found your answers are reasonable or it does not matter at all as long as you filled them out with random selections and answers?

From the time you register, it takes 2-3 months for an issue to arrive. So after you sign up, wait 2-4 weeks and goto the magazine website and find the customer service part. If they have your info, login with the US address you used and change the shipping to your real address.
If you cant login, try again in a week or two.

You won't get any email confirmation...you really just have to keep checking. And yes, the hotel will most likely get the first issue.

I have about 10 different subscriptions all from this thread (thanks rfd!) and if you're going to do a few I'd recommend putting together a simple spreadsheet to track which magazines you've signed up for (and the date), the website the offer was from, then which ones you've changed the address for (with account number!), and finally which ones I've received. It helps make sure I don't forget anything. Hope it goes just as well for you!

Sometimes it takes a day or two for the address change request to get posted to the account. Try back in a few days to see if it has changed. For the record, the same happened to me (and has before with other magazines).

Hi,

I currently have Cosmopolitan , Redbook and Good Housekeeping all from Hearst Magazines and I sucessfully changed them to Canada.

My Question is: They are due to expire in a few months, What is the best method to renew them, right now they offered me to renew but at Canadian rates being that my address is in Canada (apx 15-20 per year). in the US I can pay 5-10 per year. HOw do I take advantage of the US rates again.

Do I temporarily change my address back to US and then renew, or do I just purchase more subscriptions in the US and just give the same email address and it will automatically link it to my existing account and continue to canada?.

I would appreciate some input.

Thanks in advance

From my experience... sign up with the same american addy and email. They'll add it onto your existing account since I believe it's tied to your email. I've done this for Maxim multiple times.

I didn't have a problem with Popular Science, but I had the same thing with another Bonnier magazine (same login screen, couldn't email customer service). Er, probably.

#1 - you don't change your info on freebizmag, you change it on the magazine's customer service page.

#2 - two weeks is usually not long enough for freebizmag offers.

#3 - you need your US info. In the future, either copy and paste it into notepad or something or use an address you can easily look up again (like...the Hilton in Boston or something).

Car and Driver comes up all the time so you'll probably be able to try again soon.

Does anyone have problems where they are either getting duplicate issues and are forced to call customer service? I tried merging my subscriptions online at the customer service site and it didn't work >.<

I also made a new free Car and Driver subscription a month ago, and it still cannot find my account details on the site. I guess I have to call in again? The thing is, each time I call in and make them access my account, it fully tells them that I am scamming them.

So did you sign up with a US address and tell them to change it to your canadian address? Ive recieved many free mags from freebiz in the states since I was living there but recently moved here to Canada. On their website, they have a list of all the magazine names they say to contact if you change your address but the magazine I chose is not on the list. They also mention at this time, they are only delivering to US residents, so how can one change it to a canadian address?

I have a question:
When completing the surveys in the free subs on sites such as rewardsgold or freebizmag, do you have to answer them realistically? by that i mean not just randomly click the buttons and type random stuff for the text questions. Do the surveys get reviewed first by the sites and you only get the subs if they found your answers are reasonable or it does not matter at all as long as you filled them out with random selections and answers?

does anyone know the answer to this question?

Recieve phone calls? Why would you give them your real phone number anyways? Most don't ask for a number, but if they do i give them the number of the hotel in my US address. They love receiving calls there. I don't use my real name either. And I use a junk email address. Only used for this stuff. I've never had any issues.

Hey all,

if you have a tablet, I was lucky enough to get one HP touchpad and that you have a Time magazine subscription. Go to their
website and register to get their All included content. All you need is your account number found on the magazine and the email you
used to subscribe...that it.

Now I can have access to all my Time magazines on my HP Touchpad from their apps. Pretty cool and it doesn't cost any extra :)

Rewards Gold is probably the #1 source for free magazines... and yes sometimes it means having to do surveys to get it. If you don't want to do that you could always just pay for the subscription. Alternatively, if there is a direct link provided if you turn off javascript it should work as well.

SO, does this work? Because I signed up, and as my 'reward' I ordered Maxim.... Have you had success with rewardsgold? I'm a newbie at this, so I'm just curious! I love the idea of getting free magazine subscriptions

Yes, it works and I've received many mags through them. I'm not sure if I've received every magazine I appled for (I lose track, lol), but I definitely get a lot of mags through these guys.

Great! Thanks for the heads up! I'm new to this Mag-subscription business, so I just wanted to know the outcome! This is absolutely amazing! I wish I knew about this sooner so I wouldn't have shelled out so much money for mag-subscriptions!!!

Thanks a lot!!!

I'm not sure if there IS a RoadGear mag - I'm pretty sure that is just the site giving the offer. The post says it's for Motorcyclist Magazine, and that customer service page is here (https://www.circsource.com/store/csloginpage.html?MagId=167). I clicked the link though, and it says the free subscription is for Sport Rider magazine...I'm not sure if the page has changed since you did it, but if it's Sport Rider you're looking to change, the customer service page is here (https://www.circsource.com/store/csloginpage.html?MagId=163).

...and if you're looking for the customer service page of RoadGear for some reason, I have no idea.

Hope your Tuesday is going better!

successfully switch my Ebony subscription to my canadian address, today! I still cannot access my Maxim subscription, online... has anyone else had problems with Maxim ? Mind you it's only been about 2 weeks... Does anyone know how long it usually takes to access your Maxim account online, after you have registered for it through rewardsgold? thanks!

SUCCESS!

So, I emailed Maxim's customer service...

"Hi, I subscribed for a free 1yr subscription through rewardsgold.com, about 2 weeks ago and now I'm having trouble accessing my account information online. My address is: (gave them my 'american' address) and my email is: (gave them my email used for the subscription)."

Today, I got an email back from Maxim apologizing for the inconvenience of not being about to access my account and they also emailed my Account # so that I can access my Maxim account online. I used it, and it worked - thus, I have successfully changed my Maxim account to my Canadian address!

Woohoo!

Ahoy Gibush,

This is the best guide I could find: http://thedollardefender.com/2011/10/how-to-get-magazine-subscriptions-at-american-prices-in-canada/

Just substitute ordering from DiscountMag with signing up for your free subscription. The rest is the same.

Have fun and enjoy your free mags!

Ah, after I posted, I realized there was also a guide right on these forums!

Anyway, I've got it set up with a (real) US address. It says in 4-8 weeks to change the address.

I'm not sure how I will be able to do that in 4-8 weeks... would I use this RewardsGold site, or Maxim itself? On the Maxim site, it says under their terms and conditions, a ways down the page, that to change the address, you have to either write them or phone them. I think if you did that, they would notice the address is in Canada...

Can anyone who's done this help me out?

EDIT: I may have found the place. It's their customer service page. I'll wait the weeks and then see if I can log in there with my "zip code".

You log into the magazine's website using the US address. You don't need to call them. I've done it before and it works.

Has anyone managed to stack playboy subscriptions? as in sign up multiple times and have more than 1 years worth of subscriptions?

I finally managed to sign up again for the second time though I used all new info and its been a number of months since my last sub expired. Also for reference, I signed up October 21 and managed to login Nov 10. this particular time I deleted the rewardsgold cookies from my browser.

For those who have stacked subscriptions for any magazine, are you using the fake American info even after you switched your sub over to your Canadian address?

Just noticed that they raised price for magazine from 42 points to 52 points. :(

Also, anyone knows if it can be stacked? I've got Men's health a month ago and changed addy, so if I get another sub for same magazine with same addy(US), will it becomes 2 years sub automaticly? Or I'll end up with 2 same issues? The confusion part is I changed addy for first sub already and the I'll have to use US addy for new sub again then change to canada.

I haven't tried Men's Health but I've had some subscriptions stack automatically and others where I had to e-mail customer service and ask them to combine account numbers which they've done each time with no issue. Now what I've figured out is setting up a sub to be sent to 2-3 US addresses and combine them into one sub before flipping to Canada so I'm ok for a few years.........

Ya i noticed the pt amount went up. Will need a few more for a second sub.

Did I make a mistake? I was trying to checkout with my first for 52pts, and it gave me the option to change the address right there, so I entered my canadian one thinking maybe it'll be sent along to the magazine company. Instead it gave me an error and now i can no longer checkout. I'm hoping it's a kink in the system and trying again later will fix it. Any ideas?

Thx.

EDIT: Just as I thought, must have been a glitch last night. Order went through fine this morning with the canadian address. Now will see if i can automatically order the magazine of choise without having to use the US address.

I don't think you should worry TOO much. Some magazines take upwards of 5 weeks to login to, after you initially sign up. If after about a month you are still not able to login, email their customer service with something like:

"Hi, I signed up for [name of magazine] through [name of rewards site you used to signed-up for magazine] about a month ago. I was attempting to login to my account recently, and it would not accept my information, can you explain why I am having this problem?"

I have done this a couple of times when I feel I have waited a bit too long with no access to a particular magazine account that I have signed up for - it has always worked. I have always gotten a reply with an account number, and boom I'm able to get into my account!

I noticed in a 2006 post (not sure how I ended up looking at it) where someone had incremented/decremented the last 2 digits of the mercury free mag URL to get a list of URLs for mags that may be available.
I don't think anyone has done that lately so here's the list of mags I found by doing that.
I think a lot are out of stock (like Business Week, Saveur and Sound +Vision) and some are digital, not printed mags.
I didn't try to subscribe to every mag thru their link(s) so not sure...

Why is it that every time I try subscribing to one of the American Family mags giveaways I never subscribe in time and then get stuck on their Spam like newsletters forever? Also, is there usually a link once you sign into American Family to that free mag offer? Tired of using a new email address every time they send me a notice about some new magazine. Not giving up on them but just a little frustrated at the moment...

Sorry for being so negative but a few of the female members of my extended family are getting annoyed they never get anything they might like. Seems like the best deals are usually more geared towards men on this forum but it could just be my timing is a little off these days. ;)

As always, thanks everyone for all the posts. :)

Did this and it worked (kinda).

I really only wanted the digital access for my ipad, so when I went to change address it said my subscription was managed by a third party and I would need to contact them to change address. I emailed The Economist directly to get my online login, and they sent it back to me, but i still can't get the print copy. Whatever, I will read it on my ipad anyway.

So sounds like you can only change your address thru the company you bought it from (or got it for free from) or thru the Economist if you bought it from them...

If it's mybonuscenter.com or bluedolphin-magazines.com, there's a question/answer in the FAQ about it. Also check the SD thread linked to it...

IMO, it's not a scam but not the best way to buy subs...

Please post how it turns out...the info I quoted in the FAQ could be wrong/out of date...if you do get the mags, watch out for the renewals!
And I would suggest, in the future, always use a prepaid CC (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/prepaid-credit-cards-532830/) for these kind of deals, although the cost of them would negate the subscription cost savings.

I will sure do(let you know). Since you cant get Times less then 30$(which was why I first stumbled unto this website about a few weeks ago) ill try it...read on the internet that a bunch of people in the last year had no problem with them. Maybe they're allright now. Ill make sure I cancel my subs before the end to avoid renewal fees.

Ok I read all afternoon this thread and the one on discounted mags. Didn't find my answer so here goes:

How do we know we got the free magazines? Right after I completed the info sheet I get a page that sometimes says youll get an email within 24 hours and sometimes it just mentions shipping should start within x weeks.

What I mean is so far I managed to get into 5 deals ( I admit I always use the same junk email address BUT had to change job title sometimes to get in. Because of this sometimes I then get a page where it says your email address is in our system enter your password (bla bla)).

Of those 5 mags I only received 2 emails notification. Does it mean I didnt get the other 3 mags or an email confirmation isnt an obligation with them...

If this was answered somewhere I'm sorry...didnt see it or found it.

Feb 15th, 2012, 08:37 PM
You may or may not get emails. Just follow the same process as paid subs - try to logon to the mag website with the USA address in 4, 5 or more weeks. And you can always email them asking for your account number. Only takes 5 minutes of your time and if you don't get the mag, you can always try again when the next free offer appears.

I've been subscribed to quite a few mags over the last 2 years using this process. What I've noticed is that the Ontario companies (such as Rogers) is now also sending me some free magazines like sportsnet magazine to try to entice me to subscribe with them. Anyone getting this fringe benefit as well?

It's expired anyways. I assumed since I just received the email from freebizmags.com that it was still valid but I see it was posted on SlickDeals over 2 weeks ago.

FYI - usually you just pick a 'profession' that somewhat matches the mag...

But in your case, you already have an account with them as it asked for your password...

OR Avoid the hoops - direct link to Parenting Mag on Rewards Gold
For beginners, novice users or just forgetful ones like me, to avail the benefit of direct links without having to go through the hoops of surveys and redirection to other pages, simply DISABLE JAVASCRIPT temporarily in your browser.

Here are the steps to this in the Firefox browser:

From the menu bar, click the Tools drop-down menu, and then click Options.
In the Options menu, click the Content tab, uncheck the Enable Javascript box and then click the OK button.
You can now access the direct link to the Parenting Magazine [rewardscountry.com] (http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=4070580&sdfid=13&trd=Parenting%20Magazine&u2=http://www.rewardscountry.com/mags/parenting_sy/rc_parenting_pg3e.htm) on RewardsGold form without being redirected to the survey. After completing the form, recheck the Enable JavaScript box in the Firefox Browser using the procedure above.

I purchased Budget Travel for 1 year for 3.95 (from the discounted thread magazine here on RFD, not this thread) because I couldnt find any free ones. Of course I never received the 1st issue which was addressed to the US so I wrote them and they extended my subscription to 3 years. :)

Terrific customer service, excellent magazine. Highly recommended. I would have purchased this magazine for its full price.

You should be ok - the 2 mags are published by the same company - Meredith Corp. They automatically changed your 2nd sub to your new CAD address since you had already subscribed to one with the same name/US address/CAD address. I had the same thing but for a couple of Hearst publications.

Think they can be stacked?

I don't know, but I requested a sub from each one of those 3 links since I didn't want to take a chance that I missed out.

If I manage to get more than one, I would hope that they would stack them rather than ship multiple copies to the same subscriber.

It does say ONE free year, so maybe multiple orders will just get dropped.

Time will tell. :)

I send the good subs to 3-4 different US addresses then group them into a single US address before I flip it to Canada. I have a few subs out to 2015 and 2016.

I want to be sure I understand your process:

1. Sign up to freebie 1yr mag sub with 3 addresses - check after a 3 or 4 weeks (or longer if necessary) to see which are good - i.e. accounts have been setup by the publisher

2. Change 2 of the accounts to the 3rd US address so all 3 are the same

3. Wait a certain time (a couple days? or not necessary?) before emailing/phoning publisher requesting to combine the 3 one yr sub accounts into one 3 yr sub account

4. Then change the 1 account's address to your Canadian address

Correct?

When I see a really good magazine that I want for a long period of time, my steps are:
1) Send the sub to 3 (or more) addresses, using my own name at one of the US addresses (i use hospitals in different states BTW)
2) Combine subs A&B by changing the address of sub A to sub B. E-mail customer service if needed to get this done. So now I have one 2yr sub (merged B) and one 1yr sub (C)
3) Then change the address of merged B to sub C. If I only set-up 3 subs as I just did for PC World, this last sub is the one with my name on it. So now I have a 3yr sub (merged C) with my name on it in the US.
4) Flip the 3 yr sub to my "new" address in Canada, changing the address but not my name.

This has worked for me for several magazine subs. But note that I have sometimes set-up as many as 4-5 different addresses because sometimes the mag publisher will only set up one or two of my US addresses in their system - usually I'll get at least a couple of yrs for my effort.

For the time it actually takes you to do all this, it is SO worth it!

What's the worst that can happen, you only get a year or two free out of it, but it still cost nothing for trying.

Great post!!!

Now to try it out, thanks!

You think it'll work using different names, but the same address? (I use my sister's NY address for everything.)

I've never tried using different names at the same address. What I would do to help improve your odds in this case is add Unit 1, Unit 2,... to your address so the address is a bit different each time but the street address in itself remains the same at your sister's.

But I do think you're less likely to have attention drawn to your subs if you use completely different addresses. I pick hospitals bc this way if I can't flip for some reason, some hospital waiting room or staffer is enjoying them in my place.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Sometimes I've used a variant of her address...

For "123 main", I'd enter "123-1 main", "123-2 main" not sure if any of these actually made it there yet.

I like your method better, and at least someone else can benefit from it, if all fails.

All it asks you for is name, email, password, and a zip code. (assuming you're registering via email, and not FB)

you must have entered a non valid zip???

Try Schenectady: 12345, Albany: 12209, or any other town.

You start here: "Earn Points"

Then...

http://www.recyclebank.com/media/homepage/recyclebank-earth_month-onsite-0514_0531-all-930x235.jpg

Click on ALL the countries... Click on World View... There's more!

http://passport.recyclebank.com/page/-/passport/return-other-regions.png

10 points per country, 35 points per country if it requests a photo upload! (upload whatever you want - Google's your friend)

Some countries cannot be completed, so just skip those. (probably due to the fact we're Canadian/American) <--Now working! (As of Mar 23)

Also, look on the right side of the map, there is one bonus quiz for each continent worth 15 points each. <-- Just noticed these today (Mar 23)

It's REALLY fast to do it all... For more points, click on "Learn, Read, or Take Actions" or "Use Fewer Resources" and "Complete All 29 Daily Bonuses"

NO purchases needed, but you CAN earn A LOT of points going that route, but then it's not "Free" (because you're buying something)

I played around this morning, and racked up another 100 or so points in a little over 10 minutes. (almost all at 5 points a piece)

I'm back up to 225 points for another freebie, so if I total everything, I earned 475 points in a little more than 30 minutes.

Oh yeah, you earn 25 points per person you refer. (I haven't done this, but if I'm desperate, I'll refer myself with different emails) :)

Since I only wanted EW asap, I'm not in any rush anymore... EW actually vanished for a while, but now it's back!

*** gamesntoys, you're welcome :)

Today was the longest I spent collecting points!... The countries that couldn't be completed before, are now working!

An extra 170 points in 25 minutes, and I'm now back up to 395 points. (didn't help that I clicked on rewards that I already claimed) :(

Had to add my thanks for this site. Spent some time looking around, managed to get enough to get Entertainment Weekly, and renew Cosmo and Popular Mechanics (really useful since I haven't seen them on Icoke lately)
Took about an hour of casual browsing, found some easy quizzes and videos that racked up the points fairly easily.
