Sooner or later. I don't see anything drastic except software updates and larger capacity.

Technically the non-contract price of the iPhone has went up (according to sources indicating blackmarket prices in Europe) so I doubt the iPod Touch prices will drop significantly to become lower than $199 (which is the iPhone with a 3-year contract costing over $2K), if that's what you were wondering.

can't get 'nough dealz

the iphone is 199 on a 3 year term but during those 3 years expect a phone bill for almost 100 bucks a month on a mandatory voice and data plan, no one knows the price of the iphone without a contract but it will be expensive

The price of the iPod in Canada has always been dictated by the price of the iPod in the US ($10-$20 more in Canada since the exchange rate reached parity). They've had the iPhone in the US for a whole year, so if it had any effect on the iPod Touch price, it's already in effect.

As soon as Apple announced the back to school promotion the market value for the touch dropped. When the new Iphone comes out it will drop even more.

The price of the 16gb Touch is the same now as it was back when I bought mine in February. I paid $400 for my 16gb Touch ($20 off becasue the stock in store weren't loaded with the 1.1.3 firmware yet) and it's still going for $420.

I'm not sure why some people think that the iPod Touch will go away now that the iPhone is available in Canada. I think there is still a market for the Touch, are people forgetting that the iPhone and Touch have been coexisting in the US for about a year now.

Remember that not everyone wants the iPhone as their phone for various reasons. I think the Touch is here to stay, especially since it allows for the app store now, just more sales for Apple.

I'd be more surprised if GPS finds it's way to the Touch. That's the only thing I wish my Touch had right now.

i had one for a couple of months and i really wished it had been a lot more like other pda's or even the iphone w/out phone function, they should of included bluetooth "audio", speaker/s, mic for skype and voice recording, a camera would of been nice and GPS. at this point is nothing more than a crippled PPC, which most come with all of the above features including GPS.

YES i know u can get just an iphone and not activate it, but it still does not have bluetooth audio or GPS and plus since apple is making the touch, so they should make it right.

for killing time a PSP is much more fun, but maybe a bit too fun.

ALSO few bugs with the touch:
i couldn't get it to skip through short videos while watching them and pressing next(forward) in full screen and when double clicking the home button in mp3 mode it would go to a phone keypad function

I personally don't care about speakers, or a mic, although I can see the appeal of using the Touch for voip calls. As for the camera, I don't feel the need to have a sub-par camera on everything I own. Bluetooth would be nice, although I'd use it more for data transfer then for audio. I'm still surprised there's no wireless syncing with iTunes.

I've owned a few PDAs, the last being a Dell Axim X3i - for me I find the Touch to be the right device based on the way I use it.

I'm just wondering, is your Touch jailbroken or not? Mine is, and I'm sure that's about 75% of why I like it so much. If I was just running it as it is from Apple, I'd probably not use it as much.

If you do a search on Google for jailbreaking the Touch you shuld be able to find various instructions.

Jailbreaking the Touch (And the iPhone) allows you to install apps and modify your device in various ways. Installing apps may not sound like a big deal now that Apple has opened its App Store via iTunes or the on the device. But before a few days ago the only way to get apps was to jailbreak. Some of the apps on Apple's app store have been available for a while, apps like Band and Sketches.

A 64gb Ipod touch is likely on the horizon, with a 32gb Iphone for 499$ maybe in January at Macworld 2009.

Considering the Iphone is a 2000$+ music player, I don't think the Ipod touch is going to go away anytime soon. Not everyone who needs a media player also needs a phone.

I am using a 12.50$ a month PC Mobile phone with an Ipod and it works great. Mainly because I can watch movies and music using a separate battery for each device.

The Iphone would be pretty useless before the day was over if you spent all day draining the battery with music and movies and games.

I agree the Touch will be around for a bit longer then some might thing. As like the others have said, not everyone will needs a new cell phone and for some of us who already carries a blackberry for work, we still would have to carry two devices. My 32g touch works great for music as well as surfing and emailing in wifi zones. Places where I frequent ie..malls with the kids and or offices have lots of free wifi....so finding a place to connect to for FREE and not tide in for years is good.

My wife's rogers term is over and they've asked if we are interested in a iphone for $200 and with our current voice plan for $20/month...we might do that just because our monthly plan remains the same....wife would use it for an ipod to carry in her purse and the camera for adhoc uses....

I want a touch but since my music collection over the years have ballooned to near 30 gigs, I wanna carry all that on the go like with my Zune30.
8GB is way too small not to mention all the cool jailbreak'ed apps you can run on it will need additional space.
