Heyo,
I have a toshiba m40 laptop and I think its coming to the end of its life. When I put it in standby or try some other toshiba functions, im pretty sure the bios messes up. The Function key doesnt work after that or standby, hibernate, .... Is there anything I can do to fix the bios before its too late? I tried resetting it to default but that didnt do anything. The laptop is pretty old, 3 years I think, is it time for it to die?
Thanks

Have you tried checking the Toshiba support site for any more recent versions of your BIOS? This could be a known issue they've already fixed.

Don't mess with it anymore...and list specific details about each error. How do you duplicate it, does it happen all the time, is your cpu running at a high temperature, etc?

We'll try to help before you spend money to fix it.

It could also just be a software thing... when was the last time you reformatted & reinstalled Windows? Maybe see if standby works properly with a Ubuntu live CD?

I have the same laptop. Its running okay except it heats up quite a bit. Hopefully plan on unloading it soon.

You should try calling Toshiba...or getting it repaired.

The cpu temp is 53 but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with it. I boot up the computer fine, can use the all the toshiba functions (brightness, power saver, lcd/crt,...) and the bios is recognized by the toshiba program. I go into standby fine, but when I come out, all of the toshiba functions stop working. The bios is no longer recognized by the toshiba program. When I reset the bios to default, it reset the computer and the computer crashed, and it would freeze at the toshiba screen, but it started working again after 15-20minutes. Thats the only reason I'm kinda freaking out. Otherwise everything else works fine, I guess its not that bad, I just can't go into standby more than once. Im just kinda worried it may be a sign of things to come.

I reformatted i think 5 months ago, so maybe it is time for another reformat. But I dont understand how the windows stuff can mess with the bios.
