Need some camcorder wises! (I want to buy one)

I want to get a camcorder but dont know much about which brands are better and what to expect for them.

I want something thats simple, just shoot and watch. I dont wanna bother with transfering onto a computer or having to convert the video file.

Cost is not a major issue to me, but I do want something thats good for its price. Im on a $1000 budget.

So lets hear about what you guys know, and whats are good buys in the market for camcorders now.

Yes that reminds me, from what i know HD doesnt have the market for output storage. I'd like to have HD but to have it on DVD it only holds a short amount of film no?

I haven't used/owned a HD camcorder ... However, I do know there are several choices of storage medium - hard drive, flash memory and the good old miniDV tapes.
