...Except in Quebec where BB is calling it a moving sale and closing stores for the July 1 "moving day"--no joke!

In Quebec, rental leases typically expire on July 1st. Thus, it's "moving day" for a lot of people that aren't renewing. Just one of those little things unique to a place's culture.

They also enforce store closures during holidays. Canada Day could be one of those days where stores just have to be closed. If you feel like working on a holiday, go volunteer to run a Best Buy during the sale. (Out of province of course.)

And once again, it's Best Buy's decision to name their sale. Not the Quebec people or government. If you're that offended that they removed the word "Canada" from their sale, dial 1-866-BEST BUY and complain to your heart's content.

I know it's a bit smaller, but BB used to have a 42" Toshiba Regza 120Hz on sale for $1350 regularly. This one: link (http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=2&group=6&product=8097&category=)

Aside from the size, anyone know how the 42" Regza stacks up against the 46" Aquos?

Also, why are the plasmas so much cheaper than the LCDs?

Being "racist" means being discriminatory on the basis of RACE and as far as I know people living in Quebec (or Ontario, or BC, or... the list goes on) are not a race.

There's many other words one can use to describe such remarks, but "racist" is not one of them.

cheers :)

PS. I am against any prejudice or treating 'others' as inferior because of their race/beliefs/origin, so I agree w/ you. :)

Toshiba Regza's hold their own. I have a couple friends who have Regza's and they have excellent picture quality. I plan on buying one myself sooner than later!

Demand I guess. Some plasmas are extremely heavy, and probably suffer the stigma of old burn in issues and that 7 year life expectancy. Thats all gone, but the fact it existed doesn't help plasmas case.

g0lden0rchard: Your comments about Quebecers are not only totally ignorant but disrespectful and filled with prejudice. It's like saying all italians are crooks or jews greedy.

I believed your train of thought disappeared in the 1950's. Maybe you should evolve and open your mind and realize that people can be different from you and your reality.

godmode: My old man bought that same TV four month ago at Costco and paid 2399$ if I remember correctly. I'm more of a plasma fan but this 120hz tv with 4ms response time is really nice. Colors are vibrant and fast movement is crisp and clean which is great for fast paced action like sports or movies. Sound quality IMO is subpar.

Nothing missing.

Best Buy in Quebec is NOT calling the July 1st sale the Canada Day Sale... it's the Moving Day Sale.

I for one, do not care how big this moving day culture thing is with leases expiring, etc.... its still CANADA DAY for pete's sake !!!

Moving day in Quebec happens on July 1st and it has NOTHING to do with culture. In the 70s, when the Parti Québécois was the ruling party, they decided to ruin Canada Day by implementing a system where appartment leases would start on that exact same date. 20 years later, they also decided to replace Victoria Day by la Journée des Patriotes. Most separatists hate Canada and when in power, they try to remove or ruin stuff that is associated with our country.

Back on the topic.

I'm not sure that story is true. From what I understand, before 1974 the majority of leases expired in the month of may. The reason why the Parti Québécois decided to change the date to July 1st was so that students could finish their school year in the same school instead of changing schools in the middle of the year. This date was also chosen because most people are on vacation and it makes it easier to move.

Probably not. I just tried with FS to PM an iMac I PMd against BB last week over the phone about half an hour ago. It's now $50 cheaper, but they wouldn't match it because it's a time limited sale, so my guess is that BB would do the same.

How is the "Magellan Maestro GPS Navigation System (3210)" and "Garmin GPS Navigation System (NUVI 200C)" ?

I have some gift cards to Bestbuy that I could use. I won't be using the GPS a lot but it's something that would be nice to have around for the occasional road trip.

Ideally I'd like to get one of the cheaper ones with an updated map. No point in buying a cheaper unit at $150 when I have to pay an additional $80 to update to the 2008 maps when I can just buy a $220 unit with updated 08 maps.

Can I pricematch a product and still get the discount on top of that?

no b/c during the sale, the lower price will be reflected w/ discount taken into acct., which means they'll be comparing their lower sale price vs. competitor's price.

Also, if I can PM, do I have to call them to do it right away or after I ordered?

unlike stooples, it *must* be after you've ordered. they can't do jack if you haven't made an order.

for any online PMs, it'd be best to call them ASAP after order made b/c you want to guarantee that competitor's sale isn't over, and most imptly, that they still have stock avail.

---------

heads up, strange pricing error on bestbuy.ca (to our favour)

Battlefield Bad company for X360 is checking out at 43.50 rather than 53.99 (regular price 59.99)

nice, ordered a copy.

43.50 is a sweet price for this game!
