Hey RFD'rs

My internship this summer is at the National Youth Commission, under the Youth Tourism Department. BASICALLY I wanna tell you all that there’s a lot of free stuff / discounts we’re all eligible for. If you’re a poor student or just interested in saving some money on stuff in general listen up. I can’t believe the government has this kind of department, throwing money at youths (15-30).

Youth Travel Card – Apply for this it takes maybe 2-3 mins at a youth hub, get access to special offers/deals at those tourist places, places to stay if you’re out of town, food, Chinese lessons, transportation. I tried it out at Din Tai Fung and got some steamed dumpling cell phone key chain thingie.

Digital Tour Buddy – Apply for this free rental cell phone, comes with $200 NT free. Also some toll free help numbers. I wanted to get from the Wang Fang Hospital MRT Station to JingMei Night Market by bus, so I called them and they told me which buses to go on in English.

Tour Buddy – If you want a tour by a local university student for certain places, they’ll take you around free of charge. Other people may need to hire an escort, meet locals, hire their own Taiwanese possy to walk behind them etc.. Hotness level may vary.

Creative Tours – If you wanna go on a tour from anywhere from 1 – 8 days, there are these small tour groups that are really good and cheap. They aren’t the typical tours where you go out sleep on the bus, and then get off take pics, then get back on the bus. They take you to go do stuff, depending on the tour, I heard one tour might even go hunt pigs in the mountains.

TR Pass – if you are gonna use the train at all these are pretty good investments , either 10, 20 , or 30 day unlimited train rides for heavily discounted fares. It’s only available for the normal trains. For express trains, there’s a small fee on top but it’s still cheaper than regular fare.

For more info, www.youthtravel.tw probably explains it way better than I do.

P.S. They are also looking for volunteer ambassadors, looks good on the resume, all you do is sign up and tell your friends about these deals, and NYC. After doing it for a year ish , you can apply for a Leadership camp in Taiwan next summer.
:D

That sounds gay. Seriously, join "tours"?? Who would be caught dead as part of one of those Chinese-style tours??? I'll send you a knife - please cut your testicles off if they haven't shriveled up and fallen off already.

On a side side note, I do appreciated the effort of the Taiwanese to promote youth tourism.

On the "off chance" that you're Asian and don't understand sarcasm and dark humour - my last post was a joke. Just so you know.

Guess i don't really understand dark humor, but yea the typical chinese tours are not very fun. The creative tours are more interactive and rare experiences. As for the other stuff, i just wanted to pass on the information since I wish i knew about these deals and special offers when i went to taiwan before.
