Looks better than before but you still can get it more clearer. Too bad you dont live close to me since I'll pull out my rotary and finish it for you :D

You had best get some good wax or clear filler on that as soon as possible. Even though you wet sanded it with very fine grit, there are still millions of scratches in the plastic. It will yellow and dull very fast if you don't seal it.
Next time, you could also just go get any old plastic polish, it will also do that.:)

I found a few different guides on how to do it and I used this one seemed to work great and easy to follow with pictures if anyone want to try it.

Looks like a chronic Ford Winstar problem. I have seen that on other Ford products as well.

many car brands have this problem.
I've seen one to many acura's with this haze issue.

thankfully my 02 civic is still clear...for now.

wonder what causes it?

oxidation, rocks and small dust particles hitting it as you drive. It just happens with plastic. A clear bra helps and it does work :)

Heh Scottie, I have the exact same problem.
Questions for you:
1. Did you follow the instructions on the forum exactly?
2. Did you use the same grit sandpaper?
3. Where did you find the plastic polisher/cleaner?

No I used 800, 1500 and only 2000 grits and I didn't repeat the steps where it said to rub the plastx in over and over again I just did it once because I forgot to print that part, and I didn't mask off the paint and I didn't clean the water after evey sanding just before the last one and I did it realy fast to.

I just got home alittle while ago and noticed that the driver side wasn't as good as the passanger side in the pictures so I'm going to just use 1500, and 2000 grit and do it again real fast and plastx it again to make it better.

The passanger side was really bad before so we spent abit more time sanding it then the drivers side I Just the drivers side needed alittle bit more.

sorry didn't see part 3 of the question

I found it at Candain Tire $10.49 I think it was. I checked Walmart in Peterborough, Ont. and they didn't have any but other people saw they have gotten it from there.

I would also recommend you using some type of plastic sealent to help it last longer because it was raining abit today and I have to drive about 90 Kms and when I got back the headlights looked about hazy again not alot though but enought for me to reaply the plastX I'm going to try a cheap sealent to make them looking better longer if I can find any,

Do you know of any I could use that doesn't cost much?

radeonboy
Jul 20th, 2008, 08:12 PM
oxidation, It just happens with plastic.:)

Yep pretty much on the head. Plastic is prone to this issue. On my older Civic the headlights do not suffer of this because the lens is glass and not plastic.

Can anyone recommend a sealer to used after the PlastX that doesn't cost alot?

Why would the go all hazy again after only 90KM? Are you sure you are not getting moisture in there now? Maybe you couldn't see the moisture before due to the plastic being hazy also.

no it was haze after I put more plastX on and it went away, I tried some cheap wipe on wipe off car wax after the plastX now I'll see if that helps but I have a feeling I will need to get some plastic Sealer

Or a better quality wax/synthetic sealant.

If you really want to stop this, try using a clear bra (lamin-x, 3m film, stongard)

I found some stuff on the candain tire web site looked perfect for what I wanted it for Went to both CND stores in Peterborough and looked for it for like 2 hours and couldn't find it ! Damn people there to couldn't help much in the search I went to Home Deput and bought some stuff I thought would have worked good and it didn't made it look really cloudy had to sand it off and put plastX back on.

why not? I think the OP and many others do it to increase light output and not for pure looks...

When the plastic is all hazzy, you lose a lot of light output.

I'm still getting alot of hazing after a short time now I Need to find some type of sealent to use after the PlastX, does anyone know of anything I could use?

It's been about a week since I did my lights and though after abit the start to haze abit I'm not sure if its becausae maybe I didn't sand enough or maybe I should have went to 2500 grit but its only a tiny bit and is not getting any worse, well worth the $20 I payed for the sand paper and PlastX and now I have lots left over and I'm going to do it for my sister in law and anyone else car that needs it done.

that is only about 65% complete I would sand some more with 1500w and then polish with a machine using g3-g6 then some glaze......I have done at least 100 of theseat a shop I used to paint and prep for.....not my favorite thing to do but I can do it! Or I would just wetsand with 60o and apply 2 coats of clear!

Wolfgang Headlight Lens/ Clear Plastic Restoration Guide (http://www.autogeek.net/wolfgang-headlight-how-to.html)

i guess it's a good thing my car has glass lenses.. but then i guess it's also bad bcuz it cost 840USD to replace all 4 =(

In my experience once you wetsand and PlastX the headlights, the haze will reappear again and again. Keep that bottle of PlastX around and buff periodically to keep up the shine.
