View Full Version : Cheapest way to get a Dyson?

I want a Dyson.
I've decided which model I want.

Now in typical RFD fashion, I want to know how to get it cheaper.

They are right to the dollar the exact same price everywhere (for the model i want)

I'm not above applying for a new credit card to get 10 percent off, but I wonder if there's an obvious easier way.
I can't find any regular coupon codes or anything that can help me out.

The best deal I've seen is the Linens and things coupons(25 percent off), but i'm not in the Toronto area, and would be leery about driving all the way there for one when I hear they're clearing out their Dyson stock anyways.

The places I can choose form are:
Future Shop
Sears
Home Depot
The Brick (though Id really prefer to not give them my business all else being equal)

Anybody got any suggestions?

I got mine with the LnT coupon and also cashed in all my airmiles for GCs and bought some GCs off the BST here at RedFlag. In the end I paid $8 out of pocket for my Dyson.

For the retailers you mentioned though, I don't know how you would get a deal unless you see it on sale somewhere else and get Sears/FS to PM it.

You can probably save a few dollars buying discounted GCs though.

If you know someone who works at Futureshop, maybe they can get it for you at cost + 10%

Costco has them too, but very near $600 delivered.

Costco has slightly different models, so hard to compare. But you get more accessories with some, so worth slightly more.

I've checked out costco's too.
I've pretty well decided on the DC14 animal, that runs for 650.
It includes the mini turbine head and low floor tool. Also liking the telescopic wand.

as far as i know retailers that sell Dysons must sign a contract with dyson to become a retailer of the vacuum.

In the contract is states that the stores cannot make their own prices on dyson's, when they go on sale its a promo from dyson not the store itself, thats why they rarely go on sale and pretty much cost the same at all retailers.

Good Luck though

Well, depending what model you want. Linens has DC14 $649.99 and DC18 $569.99. With 20% coupon and 20% discount GC you could get it for DC14 for $470 or DC18 $412 tax included.

i just checked out LNT and they'll deliver it for under 40 bucks. still makes it a good deal to just order it from them (none local). with the 20 percent coupon i can still get the one that's $650 delivered for under 650, taxes in. Not bad.

How do i get discount gift cards for them? (i searched-couldn't find anything)

edit: saw the discount GC memberships. that's alot of frickin work for one discount.
meh

so anyone got any they want to sell? lol

Where are you guys getting the 20% or 25% off LnT coupon? With my air miles (thanks xansmommy, I never thought about using the air miles to actually buy stuff) and the coupon, I could get the DC24 I've been looking at for around $200.

Just my luck, I just went over to LnT here in Ottawa and asked if they had the DC18 in stock. The sales person tells me that LnT is no longer selling Dyson products, thanks to a disagreement which has the two sides in court suing each other. The only ones available were the ones they had onsite, which were the canister (no thanks), and the Animal (don't have any animals).

Also, I thought maybe I could still buy it online, but when I added it to my cart they said it was out of stock.

Anyone know where I can get a similar 20% coupon for Sears or HBC?

I was kinda hoping that if I got something lightweight, maybe it might get used more often (hint hint, wink wink).

I didn't realize how much we really needed a new vacuum cleaner until we recently did the entire first level of our house in hardwood and tile (removed carpet and vinyl), and the dust on the new floor seems to be never ending.

Cheapest way to get a Dyson?

My neighbour borrows my things and never brings them back.
Don't buy a bissel steam cleaner, everyone you know will borrow it. It's like a pick-up truck.

Best Buy's Preferred Customer Sale (or Future Shop Friends/Family sale)

I picked one up when it was 15% (or 20%, don't recall) off all vacuums.

Pleasantly surprised that the Dysons were included as I also heard each retailer was not allowed to set their own prices.

Plus they'll give you a $5 rewards certificate for every $400 purchase.

So I'm on the hunt for a Dyson DC18 and I couldn't help but notice the price difference between the US and Canada:

Canada = $569
USA = $469

But, now it appears the DC18 is on sale in the States! Several retailers, including CircuitCity have it listed at $360.

So, I wrote a nice email to Dyson Canada suggesting the price disparity is getting a little large and asking if they will price match. They wrote a nice email back suggesting the two are apples and oranges - higher duty in Canada, price to produce bilingual packaging and higher shipping costs. Somehow, I doubt this equates to $100 difference, let alone $200 difference! Especially when the product itself only has icons on it... i.e. the product is bilingual ready. Printing cardboard and a translating a user manual?

However, does this mean the pricing on the DC18 will go down soon? Either way, may have to jump across the border sometime soon.

Dyson does get bonus points for prompt response, I will give them that!

This may be one of those times when it's worth it. The Dyson is that much better than other vacuums.

Compare the $100, or $200, cost of your trip, and the potential for duty, etc., or worse, getting caught not declaring, which is never worthwhile, since it will affect every future trip you take.

I'd pay Dyson to import these things. Buy at Costco where it's either the same package for less, or way more accessories included for only slightly less price.

i had also thought about getting mine in the states, but my husband asked how that would affect my warranty.
I thought he had a good point, because i wasn't sure either.

Here's some comparison pics.

I vacuumed the house with my 4-5 year old Hepa $170 Dirt Devil. (we've got 4 cats)
Here's what it got - whole house:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y182/dolphie/IMG_0385.jpg

I then went and picked up my Dyson. I did two rooms, a hallway and a set of stairs. I had to stop to empty it.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y182/dolphie/IMG_0384.jpg

Pretty gross really, to think all that was just sitting in/on my carpets. blech!
Very Very impressed with my Dyson so far. As long as it lasts a reasonable amount of time, I'll be sticking with them forever.

Pictures tell a 1000 tales. However, to be honest, dirt devils are terrible. Even comparison with a similar DD and Bissel one that I bought later, there was a marked difference.

How about buying the Dyson at Home Outfitters using the Linen & Things 20% off coupon? I have heard here before that HO accepts the LnT coupon, although I have never tried personally.

I thought the LnT coupons used to say not applicable to Dysons, I guess they don't say that anymore since they aren't selling them anymore.

Anyone know if Home Outfitters will let me use the LnT 20% off coupon for a Dyson?

I could combine this with my giftcards bought for 20% off through lifestyle essentials.

EDIT: Ignore my question, got my answer here:

Seems to be hit and miss, probably more miss than hit :)

I saw the DC18 (not sure about the model # but it's the slim one) on for $499 (down from $569) at Bed Bath and Beyond in Richmond Hill on Tues. Think Furtureshop or Best Buy would PM them?

Thanks for the tip!

I went to the Oakville location and true enough, the Dyson DC18 Slim was on clearance for $499.99! They had 5 in stock.

I brought with me a Linens 'N Things 20% off coupon that I got in Friday's Mississauga News paper and they honoured it. So I ended up getting the vacuum for $399.99!!

Agreed 100%!!!

Just picked up the Bissell Healthy Home a couple of weeks ago and it kicks ass at less than 1/2 the price of a Dyson with the same "non-stop" suction feature.

New only costs approx. $249-$259 on sale plus taxes (some stores like the Bay sells for $349 regular price).

Anyone know of any good deals to be found?

I'm looking for the Dyson Canister (DC23) Motorhead Animal.

Futureshop has the base Canister in Pink for $150 off, but I'd rather not have pink, and I would spend well over $150 to get the accessories included in the Motorhead Animal.

Also noticed every Dyson retailer is giving away a "Spring Cleaning" accesory package with every Dyson.

I know, long term, the $750 may be justified, but that's a large pill to swallow ;)
