Hmmmm, when I did my road test @ Walkley a few years ago, the examiner told me that the speed limit on the on/offramps is the speed limit of the freeway (i.e. 80km/h), and the yellow speed, if any, is a recommended speed.
Of course, I've had another examiner before tell me that the onramp/offramp legal speed is 50 unless otherwise posted...

so i guess it's 50km/h on the ramp?
i'm pretty sure you are not allowed to drive that corner of the ramp at 80km/h....

I think the OP knows this, but for the record this is the route for the Walkley G-Test location.
-REVERSE PARK into the area where they tell you to with the posts before the test begins. Even experienced drivers can mess up reversing out of those parking spots the way that parking lot is designed.
-Bring you into that back fenced off area to parallel park between cement blocks and 3-point turn
-go towards the exit and turn left onto Walkley Rd. (Trick here being 1. the sidewalk and 2. pull up straight onto the center divider before merging into traffic)
-Continue down Walkley, make sure you switch to the right lane as soon as safely possible, they may or may not have you do a lane change at this point.
-Upon crossing Bank St. they will tell you to get on the Airport Parkway South, change lanes as soon as possible as the entrance to parkway is on the left.
-My driving instructor told me way back when that you should try and be at about 50km/h by the "No Littering" sign and merge at 80. Be really, really careful on the merge... you can see really far back when coming down the ramp so use that to your advantage and time your approach with a gap in traffic.
-They will then tell you to get off at Hunt Club and go right... watch the stop sign there, the positioning of the stop line is tricky
-If you didn't do a lane change on Walkley, they'll have you do it on Hunt Club either now or on the way back.
-They will have you turn right on any one of the next 3 streets: Paul Anka, McCarthy, or Uplands. In these residential neighborhoods they will have you do your uphill/downhill/emergency stops. They will then guide you out back to Hunt Club and take a left back towards the Parkway. Again, when you turn go to the left lane, but then immediately when possible go to the right.
-They will tell you to go to the Airport Parkway North (some may say Downtown). This is a weird intersection, practice it a few times beforehand.
-They will tell you to get off at Walkley, be careful of the the Transitway as buses have right of way and may be barreling up the ramp next to you and try and merge. Take a right on Walkley, stay to the right
-Turn right back into the DriveTest facility
-They'll make you park out back.
*** At some point, they'll randomly turn on your radio or make a noise or something to see how "jumpy" you are behind the wheel and how you react. Usually, it's at some point on the Airport Parkway but it can happen at any time.
I have helped atleast 10-15 people pass their test at this location. It's easy enough if you practice the route and know the tricks. 99.9% of the time, this will be the route. For the love of god DO NOT TELL THEM YOU KNOW THIS! Also, DO NOT LET THEM KNOW YOU PRACTICED THIS EXACT ROUTE!. They have the discretion to change the route if they like, and they have in the past when my dumbass friend told them he "Did the route like 20 times beforehand".
As for the OPs exact question, when getting off the Airport Parkway do not start slowing down until you are in the off-ramp lane. At that point, there is a stop sign at the end speed is almost irrelevant as you need to stop right at the end. As for when you merge on to the Parkway from Walkley, like I said in my route summary above... try and be at about 50km/h by the red/white "No Littering" sign and merge at 80km/h or close to it, speed isn't as important as how little you interfere with traffic already on the parkway. Traffic will be going 80+ so try and merge accordingly, but more importantly look for a gap in traffic in which you can fit into from a distance and time your approach accordingly. Basically the same thing on the way back, but the onramp doesn't give you nearly enough of a view of the road ahead, but there should be minimal Northbound traffic during the daytime so its a much easier merge. Just be careful of the "two ramps combining", I forget who yields to who but it's important.

desistyle87,
Thanks for such a detailed post (it makes me think of a computer game walkthrough  ) This is exactly what I was looking for! My G test is this coming Monday at the Walkley center. I'll surely feel much more confident after practicing the route several times.
Wish me luck!

Good Luck OP,
Make sure you constantly look at your mirrors, even if you don't plan to make a lane change etc.
First time they failed me (also at Walkley). Reason being was "not enough observation".
Also if you want I still have my sheet from exam where they tick off when you complete certain maneuvers that you are told to do. I think it will give you a feel of what kind of manoeuvres they will be testing you.
PM me if you need it.
Take care.

I am not sure the answer was in this thread but if you are on the on ramp, you should be accelerating to the speed of the parkway so you can properly merge into traffic.
When exiting the parkway (or whatever) you decelerate when you are in the exit lane not on the parkway itself down to the posted speed of that exit.
Is this not taught in driving school?

This is why i was failed last week. F*** i was pissed. I kown the roads well, since i live in the area [sotuh keys] and take the airport parkway to university & Dowtown, airport.
It's an unjust system, since they cannot be passing 100% of the people, as they wouldn't have a job. I drove exactly as i did for my G2 [i really remembered the day], passed the G2 with flying colors and can navigate the G-test with my eyes closed!
But nope - fail. :(
I knew it was gonna go bad, i saw the old guy come out to the car next to me beforehand he looked pissed. I told myself 'i hope i don't get him!' - sure enough i did! Approaching the car, he saw my rims, saw him look and sigh or something... it was off to a great start!

A few years ago, my co-worker was failed by someone from Walkley for the 'freeway' test on the airport parkway. Not sure exactly where they got on and / or if they signs have changed since but at the time there was a yield sign before getting on the parkway. Naturally, when he saw the yield sign, he slowed downed. When he got back to the office, he was told he failed the test because the "slowed down too much" on the 'on-ramp'.
Not sure exactly how he should have proceeded but perhaps the best course of action, if there is a yield sign, ask the tester if he wants you to obey the yield or if he wants you to take it as an on-ramp and not slow down.

Do you know the reasons why you failed? I did the test just the past Tuesday, had an old guy, kinda balding, glasses ..he just got in my car and said, 'i'll be doing your test, it'll be about 30 minutes' then told me to drive. I backed into the parking spot in hopes of not having to reverse park later. He said to go to the back where i did a three point turn and parallel park. Then we took left on Walkley, did one lane change, when passing Bank St. I got onto the parkway, then right on Heron, we then took one of the side streets i think it was paul anka, told me to do an emergency stop, drove a little then left on Heron, did one lane change, then back on the parkway, right on Walkley then back to the drive test center, and told me to park. He said "Well you passed, you did pretty good but at times you drive too slow" I was ALWAYS watching my speed, maybe 1 or 2 km's under, theres NO WAY i was gonna be speeding. So I don't mind him saying i was driving too slow. Overall i had 17 errors, where I believe you're allowed 30, a few other things were like blind spot checks during the parallel park and other minor mistakes. It was such a relief, but printed out the route before hand and did it a couple of times, the friday before the test and right before i did my test so it was fresh. I just couldnt believe it was EXACTLY as stated above.:)

I just had my test at walkley and wanted to confirm that the route above (posted more than 2 years ago) is still the same route they use today. It's a replica of what I did. I did that route once just before my test began. I gotta say, the road test is MUCH easier here in Ottawa than when I did it in Brampton. The examiner bluntly told me at the beginning of the test "I will mainly be looking for observation, not mechanics like the G1 exit test, so don't just move your eyes but turn your head". Basically saying make it obvious your checking everything. I did that every 2-3 seconds and I passed no sweat. I did look like an idiot during that time but who cares.
Also, not sure if it's because the time of day (12:30pm) but there was absolutely no one at the testing centre. I arrived 30 minutes early and the examiner was at my car within 30 seconds

Thanks for that, and to desistyle for posting the route. I'm going for my G in a few weeks, and it's good to hear that the route has not changed. The biggest issue is that I like to know where I'm going. I understand it's part of test to see how people react to sudden changes, but any competent driver should know their route ahead of time. Plus I'm sure they deliberately don't give you enough time to safely do what they ask. During my G2 test, the examiner told me to turn back into the test centre literally 1 car length away, and I nearly had to slam on the breaks to make the turn. I would never drive like that, and I would turn around somewhere before trying to make a turn like that.
Time to practice, practice, practice.

I'd guess that it's as much the time of year as the time of day. I doubt it gets very busy until spring and in June. Few people are brave enough to try their road test in winter.

Thanks for metioned this. I HATE everything about doing that. Why not test people on their driving skill, instead of playing games with them?
I'll defiantly be fixing my radio so they cannot turn it on.

It's been almost 5 years since I took my G2 test and am taking my G in a couple of days. Can't remember if I have to use my blinker when doing the 3 pt. turn? Also, do I have to use my blinker when I'm pulling out of a parking spot (assume I do) Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You have to use your blinker for a three point turn and when backing out.

My cousin just did this. If anyone is wondering, it's still the same  Wish I had all this info about 5 years ago, had to do it the old fashioned way
Just some notes to add: Reverse park in the green post before you even start. Almost always they won't ask you to do it again. I was never asked, and today she didn't have to either.
Parallel parking is done inside so you don't have to worry about incoming cars, but always use your blinkers. Make sure to leave some space in the front.
When lane changing they asked her to change when she's comfortable when there was a car on the left lane behind/beside her. So don't panic, just drive and change when you're comfortable. Don't speed up to overtake when you're right beside it. Just slow down a tad bit, let the car pass.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS constantly check your mirrors. You might look like a ******** bird, but do it. Move your head, not just your eyes.
Everything else is covered in that post. I'll scan in the check list when I go to her house later. It's not hard at all, don't be nervous, the tester will instruct you well before a turn comes up. He/she will also tell you what they're expecting. Arrive 30 min early.

Always signal. If in doubt, signal. There's actually a comprehensive guide on the mto site.
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/section6.0.0.shtml
You have to let other drivers know what you're doing. Even if there are no one around, use signals. gl.

Wow this post is so helpful, it has really helped me calm my nerves!! I will be doing my G test in a few days ... with an Explorer!! Is the parallel park done between 2 cement blocks or just behind one? The explorer starts beeping when you are in reverse and are approaching an object behind. Any idea if this will be a penalty or is this acceptable?
Thank you in advance!

When I did my road test in smiths falls they used a side road with a speed limit of 60 for my freeway driving section. I had to demonstrate a lane change by going into the wrong side of the road, as if I was passing. It was even a solid line too!
That is a joke!

i passed my G test with the bald old guy even thou I rolled a stop, but he read my last name and apparently my dad is his mechanic, so in other word he was reluctant to give me the pass. I did everything perfect but yet again it is the full G test and they look at everything to make sure everything is perfect.

This thread is similar to that on cruisecritic where someone asks how to smuggle liquor on a cruiseship and someone has the audacity to tell the person how to do it. Of course cruise line staff read those post and guess what.
Back to this thread, the route of the driving test is not rocket science, just follow the driving school cars. It's like a line of worker ants going to work. Learn to drive first and one will be able to handle any test.
What would you do when the examiners read these posts and reverse the route?

Could anyone tell me what to expect for the g1 exit test at Walkley? I assume the parallel parking and 3 point turn in the parking lot are the same, but how about the rest of the route? Do you just go right onto Walkley, or do you have to cross over the median to go left? Where do they take you to do your uphill/downhill parking and emergency stops? My test is next week and I'm pretty confident, but any information I can get ahead of time would help.

Did the G test this morning and the route was exactly as posted. The on ramp at Walkley to the Airport Pkwy. was slow. The traffic on the Pkwy. was only moving at about 70K. Big line up coming but a nice guy let me in. Did the emergency stop on Paul Anka and that was it. Three lane changes one on Walkley leaving the centre and one more before Bank St. then one on Hunt Club coming back. I PASSESD!!! First try. The guy I had Walter was really pleasant.

Thanks for the useful posts guys, I am helping my dad get his G license and we took the same route yesterday. Pretty light traffic so I will do it a few more times with him prior to his test.
Just wondering if the examiners will ask drivers to make a right turn onto Walkley after we leave the Test Centre and if so what route would that be? I know there is a ramp to get to the 417 further down Walkley but it's quite a bit of a drive from the Test Centre.
Thanks.
