The Parade begins at Exhibition Place and moves west along Lakeshore Boulevard. If you're heading for paid seating, take the 511 bus from Bathurst Station or the LRT from Union Station directly into Exhibition Place. Otherwise take the 29 bus south from Dufferin Station, the Lansdowne Express from Lansdowne Station or the Keele Express from Keele Station. (TTC info: 416-393-4636 or TTC's website.) The Lakeshore GO train also stops at Exhibition Place. (416-869-3200, 888-GET-ON-GO or www.gotransit.com)

Sorry for a bit OT... someone said the parade is charged for a fee? I thought it should be free such as Santa Clause Parade.

Could you confirm please?

I take the Landsdowne Express. Bathurst Streetcar would be my last resort.

The Ex grounds seating areas charge admission. It's free if you're on Lakeshore.

Racial profiling - "Detectives have been gathering a list of known Toronto-area trouble-makers who are banned from" quoted from the Sun's article

Full quote is: "Detectives have been gathering a list of known Toronto-area trouble-makers who are banned from attending the Scotiabank Caribana parade due to parole or release conditions."

...likely thugs who caused violence at the parade in the past. Good for Toronto Police to make sure they stay away.

i love how people always associate crime shootings with caribana when nothing has happened at the parade for years, over a million people attend don't let a few idiots ruin the day for you

Never been to Caribana before, I've been told its not too safe and that someone always gets ends up getting hurt during the parade. Is there any truth behind this?

its pretty safe, but there are over a million people there so odds are there will be a few knuckleheads that exist in mostly all large gatherings

It's not so much the parade, but the Club District and Yonge/Dundas area which I would avoid at night...definitely a lot more wanna-be gangstas.

Tomorrow during the parade, I just want to sit and relax and watch and not get involved ...

Any ideas where I could do this???
Paid or non-paid ...

And for the record, Yonge St. downtown (and club district) is just a huge hangout for the night ... what is everyone doing? Not a whole lot.
Yes, isolated incidents but there's SO MUCH police I think it's one time you can feel safe ... it's twisted, but it's true.

I'm headed downtown for the evening as I always do every year. Never any problems.

the parade is safe =)
My parents took me there all the time when i was a kid...
Then when i got older i thought i was too cool to hang out with them.

In fact... My parents are going this year too :-0
So if 2 old 50 somethings aren't afraid to go to Carribana... Why are there a bunch of people here crying that every ones gonna get shot?! People take their kids to this parade...

The parade itself is pretty safe, but this event attracts many tourists and you'll noticed there are way more litter bugs over the weekend

Curiosity Kills:)

I, if you don't already know make the costumes for the parade.
I've been very busy and i barely made it to the parade and had my son so a camera was impossible to hold.

Since we have so many wonerful and professional photographers here, if you've never seen the photo section i employ you to take a look.

You'd be surprise how hard it is to get off a good shot in the parade.

I hope that helps and send the pics.

I posted this in another thread yesterday.... When I say huge delays, I think when the rain came , even after the train things didn't move for a good while). I think they need to pick up the pace. Is it normal that people break past the fences? I got annoyed at those people.. haha

I just got back...

Man, for anyone else that went, did they find it DISORGANIZED. It kind of started on time but then there was a HUGE delay when nothing happened (in addition to the rain... there was time when things were not moving at all). I found it too slow paced. And what is with all of the people rushing along the parade route (onto the road). The fences are there for a reason! Don't be going and opening up holes so you can walk on the street... that totally messed with the pace too. I think someone got hit my a truck or something because I saw an ambulance on the route.

Overall, I don't think I will go back anytime soon. If it was more controlled (keep the public off the actual road!) I would be more likely to return (Since the parade would probably be able to move along quicker also)

Sorry man but no matter what organization as long as people of colour are involved there will be no line ups and being on time. It is pretty sad they can't follow rules, people pay to parade in those costumes.
As for the pace of the parade there are too many factors, the band, music trucks, judges, i hope you are aware that there are judges at variouus points that have to observe and tally points right there.
At the end of the parade you ahve to dismantle as you go along maybe you are unaware there are several tractor trailers at the foot of Roncensvalles and Queensway.

I have to agree with the parade delays ... I showed up just around the time the rain showed up, so my girlfriend and I waited it out in the car (luckily) for about 20 minutes and headed out when it stopped ... other than that really random 20-30 minute down pour, it was a beautiful day ... you'd probably get burnt as well.

When we were walking around, I thought the damn parade was over or just lacking or what, I couldn't figure it out ... THEN all the floats show up ...
It was kinda nuts like that ...

And I HEARD the people on the mic on the floats telling people NOT in costume to leave but I didn't see a whole lot of that happening.

It's like, how does the Santa Claus parade get it to work or say a parade in New York? I think they gotta look into other ways to having it more organized. Fun, interactive but organized.

Did anyone do the "Paid Seating" ... IMO, it actually looked alright ... that's the same setup for the indy and what not, set on the bandstand ... I wouldn't mind that (especially comparing to wet / muddy grass).
I might do that next year.

Was the bandstand covered?

I just really didn't like how they broke through the fence.. They had so many security guards walking around doing nothing. Why could they have one posted ever 100 feet or something. Or even volunteers. Or use a better locking mechanism on the fence. If the general public wasn't mixed in with the parade people it would have been much better. I don't know if that happens every year because if it does, I probably wouldn't go back. It annoyed me that people were stopping them every 2 minutes to take pics with them and stuff.

It does happen every year. People like the interaction. It's part of the appeal of the Caribana parade. Years ago, there were never any barricades. Next year, try joining the people that sneak in and have some fun.

It is and it isn't part of it, I don't know ...
It's almost like they need the parade and then an after party with all the floats and people really close together back on the exhibition grounds or something ...

Run it into the evening ...

Visually, it just doesn't make sense. All this time, all this money, then some numnuts in a T-Shirt and shorts. No thanks.
