When other people think that I'm chinese.
I even get the unusual Spanish or Italian.
And that is what grinds my gears.

I get the same thing - people think I'm Chinese by default. I've gotten Japanese many a time as well.

Yea. people think I'm Vietnamese because I have a Viet last name. So it really grinds my gears, because I'm really Chinese. I just don't feel so grinded down that I have to go post about it.

What really grinds my gears are adults that ride their bikes on the sidewalk and expect people to jump out of their way because they blow their little whistle or ding their little bell.

Today, I was very tempted to accidentally drop my bag of kitty litter under the front wheel of some arsehole's bike.
But, me being civilized and all, I decided to just block the whole sidewalk with my groceries and make him have to go on to the road to get by me.

It really grinds my gears when I go out of my way to hold the door open for someone and they do not say thank-you.

If I don't hear a thank you, I usually make sure i say Your Welcome NICE and loud, make them feel like an ass.

Why are you opening doors for people and expecting a thank you? Why can't you just do it to be nice?

I never expect a thank you, just trying to make life a tiny bit easier for someone else!

It's not so much "expect" in the sense of "I deserve one". But more so that I "expect" one to come about since I believe our society is courteous and civilized enough to produce one.

I agree with you completely, I'm just saying that some people are complete jerks and will not give you one, shouldn't let it bother you. Just make the world better through your own end and hopefully your behaviour will be contagious. :)

what really grinds my gears is when you say thank to someone in the states (central states i guess) and instead of a reply of your welcome, or no worries or somethign to that effect, they decide to just say in a really hick style voice "uh huh"

Don't want to promote too much US hate, but I found this to be true as well.

when people coming from the opposite direction wait for you to pass through the door instead of opening the other door on their side, especially if there's steady traffic going out one way

I do it to be nice.
You expect a thank-you because it is manners to thank someone when they do you a favor. Just like when someone holds the door open for me, I thank them.
