questions to psp owners

i'm planning to buy a psp mainly for music purposes, i have some of the memory stick duos and would like to put them in use


question now is how is the music interface of the psp? is there a equalizer/surround sound effects? how fast is the music transfer? hows the battery life? how are the headphones that come with it? how's the sound quality?


i already have an ipod (used it for outdoors) but would like another mp3 players to keep me chilling in my room

I don't know what you mean by equalizer sound effect, but takes about 20 sec to 40 sec for a normal song. The psp headphones is decent but you can just take your ipod, or any headphones and use it. Also got to say its not a very good music player on the go like walking around with it bit heavy.

Battery life playing music about 3~hours maybe. You can also buy docking system for it.

equalizer/surround sound effect are audio modification to suit ur needs, eg. for equalizer are bass, jazz, hip hop, rock, surround sound effects (some mp3 players have it) eg. live, studio, arena/concert/ karaoke etc...

20-40 seconds to add per average size songs? are you sure about this one

lol psp is not meant for music playing.
i suggest u get like a random mp3 player for $50, if u just want to use it to chill in ur room.
PSP is only good for gaming and some modded features (custom firmware) are cool too, but music and video drains the battery like mad.

I have to say that I love my PSP, but I definitely do not use it for music. It's a pain in the ass to organize the songs by playlist (you have to break it down by folders, plus I believe you can only go in one subdirectory), there is no search functions or on the go playlist or anything, and it is simply too big for a music player nowadays. Although I am sure the battery life would be MUCH longer than 3 hours (especially not if you underclock your CPU, assuming you have Custom Firmware)... that's more like the battery life for games. I haven't fiddled around with it much as a music player, but I don't recall there being equalizers, although there are visualizations for screen and stuff. Basically, PSP's too basic to be your full-time music player, although it certainly doesn't hurt to have MP3 playing capabilities and could be your backup music player or something. But really, for you to buy a PSP and a memory stick, you can buy SEVERAL dedicated MP3 players.

I use mine mainly for games (obviously) and skype, for which it is totally worth it.

with cfw, u can run a homebrew mp3 player (lightmp3 for example) and it says about 8 hrs u could possibly pull out of a full charge (depending on if u change the cpu/bus speeds, turn the screen on or off, etc.)

One of the best utilities on the PSP is PSPRadio. You can listen to online radio stations. I love online radio stations so this is a big + for me. Best is when you are university and you don't want to drain your laptop just to listen to music; you just connect your PSP to Wifi and you can listen for a good 2-3 hours. I don't much if any MP3 players on todays market can do this and also include everything else a PSP has.

Sadly not against water damage :cheesygri.

I have a replacement kit for the Home Row Circuit Board coming from DX; hopefully the black brick should be up and running next week :).
