Watch the man on the left walking, crossing the road where there is no car .... It is so definite that the coast on the left is clear, and safe to cross.
Any person would see it is safe...
Take nothing for granted, not even for a split second! Be grateful for every living minute!

VIDEO CAPTURED BY TRAFFIC CAMERA !!!!
'Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets; so love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don't, and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it.

Foot Note: Believe it or not the pedestrian in the intersection lived! He was saved by the imprint that the PT Cruiser left in the driver's side of the Subaru. When the Subaru went over him, it came down on him right where the dent in the car was made, and did not crush him! Another 'angel on your shoulder' event!

Not really. The man on the left was walking in the middle of the road when his light was already red. The car coming from the right was driving in pretty high speed. He should have seen that coming. He might expect that car would not hit him but his coast was not exactly clear. That is:

1. he did not finish his crossing before red.
2. he did not pay attention or did not care about or thought he could beat the car coming from the right.

What you see through the camera is not the same as (as the camera has limited view) what that guy should see that day.

Its a horrible accident. But the rule is the pedestrian have the right of way. If you step into the pedestrian lane while the pedestrian light is green, all motorist have to wait for him/her to finish crossing before they can move (turn right, turn left, going straight). The car that hit him is at fault even the pedestrian did not finished crossing when the light is already red.

I don't see how the pedestrian could have prevented being hit. It was a car running a red at high speed from behind him that seems to have caused the problem. The PT taking off a bit early sure didn't help, but he would have cleared the crosswalk before that care came through probably.

wow.

hit by the car., then squashed by the car.

youch! If pedo survived, will be quadroplegic at least...if not quintoplegic :D.

pedo = pedophile not pedestrian

Correct. Pedo only ever has one meaning. There's not even an "o" in pedestrian :|

Hmm! I did not say the pedestrian did not have right of way. I only disagree with OP's statement of "the coast on the left is clear, and safe to cross. Any person would see it is safe.."

I agree that the pedestrian could not prevent that and he did try to walk faster to cross after the light turned red.

My interpretation of the video is based on the PT ran the red (had just turned to red). That is why the pedestrian was already half way of the crossing. I can be wrong.

There was 2 mistakes by 2 drivers.
1. the PT ran the red.
2. the other car speeded through a new green without taking note the PT might not stop. The other car was also speeding when it ran its green. He could have taken his foot off the gas before he entered the intersection.

The cars weren't going as fast as it appears. You can tell the video is sped up by looking at the walking speed and the trees.

However, it's also hard to tell who's in the wrong because you can't see the colour of the lights. Not all intersections in cities work the same was as your local ones.

video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8zDhZFa2LU) on youtube ....if the north/southbound traffic have the red lights...because if you notice the car with the turning light on is at the white lines(if he had the green lights he/she would be beyond the line)...and approaching cars from of the north are stopping....PT Cruiser has bad brakes or driver wasn't paying attention. Therefore the vehicle coming form the right has the green lights.

If this is correct...what is the person doing jaywalking?

It looks to me that both drivers are at fault.

Neither slowed down at the intersection.

One tried to beat the amber and the other didn't even slow down because the light turned green before he got to the intersection.

alot of inconsiderate toronto pedestrians in downtown begin crossing even if it's turning yellow or when the timer is close to 0. Also there are ppl who begin crossing before their light even turns green which delays turning traffic. Pedestrians seem to take advantage of this "right-of-way" rule.

I believe that drivers should be given the right to plow pedestrians who intentionally walk across knowing that they won't cross in time. Maybe that would teach them a lesson for thinking they own the street. It may sound like i'm evil, but if everyone obeyed the laws of the roads then everything would function more efficiently.

By the way, after watching that a hundred times, you can clearly see the pedestrian is 0% to blame for this.

Many, many pedestrian lights change too fast, even with the countdown.

Sometimes, when a pedestrian pushes the button to activate the walk signal, the walk signal does not work. What is the pedestrian supposed to do? Stand there forever?

I wouldn't. If I pushed the button and it didn't work the first time, I would be crossing the next time whether the walk signal appeared or not.

Not everyone walks cross the road that has traffic light daily. :)
I may not walk cross a road that has traffic light in a week or even in a month. :)

something blows my mind, which is WHY THE HECK didn't hte pede react?

Listening to headphones really loud? ball cap on and brim angled too low so field of view limited to person?

It makes no sense., if I hear a bloody crash like that I'd be 2m up in the air in a mid jump....then of course there are accounts where people say they are entirely frozen at the onset of a tragic event.

I remember reading about this. The pedestrian survived it and wasn't crushed at all.

The impact from the PT Cruiser created a huge dent in the side of the SUV before rolling over the pedestrian. The pedestrian was underneath the dent when the SUV appeared to have smeared his body all over the road. Super lucky.

It happened so quickly. You can kind of see him running two steps before the car reached him.

I don't know why i even bother coming to this forum anymore. Its either some joe posting same old videos (such as this) or guys posting news that they found from a news source (such as pulse). Its getting annoying. Serisouly, there's little to no new material on this forum.

Forum lost its appeal.

I've never seen this happen.

Kipling and Aukland Rd. the street where the bus goes in to Kipling Station. Late afternoon the Walk sign never shows up. and people tend to wait there for more than a few cycle...

You can never be too vigilant when you're crossing the road; either by foot or by car. I can't count how many times I've seen pedestrians just ignore their surroundings and expect cars around them to yield them! I don't know who's to blame here other than the obvious PT Cruiser driver running the red, but I don't think the pedestrian is well and truly innocent in this.

I don't think the pedestrian could do anything. Even if he did cross the road before red, he would be swept out on the side walk anyway.
