I'm not from that area, but I do know it is a nice area where I want to move to. There are the new Canadian Tire and Walmart Supercentre....Dollarama :) soon...

I'm from there, Great place to plunk down and start a family. I don't commute to TO, but there is a new GO train station opening soon (http://ogov.newswire.ca/ontario/GPOE/2007/08/29/c3107.html?lmatch=&lang=_e.html).
I drive across Stouffville Road in the early AM, The 404 is always busy but moving.

I see many people in the ditches on the 9th line in the winter, But that's because they can't drive. It helps to have winter tires or a 4x4.

WS is pretty much where Markham was 15-20 years ago. In the past few years, it has grown like crazy. There are many new housing subdivision, and many of the bigger retailers and restaurants have opened locations along Main Street.

In terms of housing, the pricing is cheaper than Markham, but the gap isn't as big as it used to be. Five years ago, you could've got a good size home for dirt cheap. Nowadays, you're saving maybe $30-50k vs buying in Markham for the equivalent home.
