View Full Version : Honest, Reliable mechanic in Markham

Since my 2003 Corolla is off warranty, I'd like to take it to a private shop in order to save some money for maintenance and repairs. Can anyone recommend a reliable mechanic in the Markham or maybe north Scarborough area?

Thanks!

ok so my visit yesterday with Chi at 360 auto service was super good! I was about 45 min late because I left his address at home. He was very nice and honest by explaining many details about my car yesterday. He told me other things that I need to change and why. No pressure at all. While replacing my rotor, he would explain and show me the cause of my shaky steering wheel. Took about an hour. I m very satisfied with the service and will definitely come back. He's definitely not a scammer in my opinion :D:D:D:D

PS. I even told him you guys said hi! lol.......

+1 on 360 Auto. Based on your recommendations here, I took my car into them. Chi is very nice, very professional, explains everything well and does not rush his responses. He is accomodating with the schedule (appointment needed, though) and the prices are so much cheaper than the Nissan dealership. I can't believe I didn't go to them earlier. Highly recommended!!!

Yes, whenever I called Nissan, they gave me the old song and dance like they're totally unsure of what the potential problems can be and do that feigned hesitation thing. Chi will give me the likely scenarios and will be honest and say when he is not sure and needs to look at it in person. Chi had me come into the garage to look at the rear drums and the brakes that were my issue and showed me some of the things that were happening with them. Nissan would never allow me into the garage, so I'm not sure whether they sold me a piece of land half the time.

But one thing I do especially like it Chi's professionalism. You know how you get the sense about people just by talking with them? I can tell he's just telling it like it is, and is not trying to rip you off. His prices reflect that he understands that customers aren't a walking unending wallet and he empathizes with the customer ("I hate being ripped off, so I'd never do that to anyone"). The first time I went, the I booked an appointment for the next day. They are flexible with appointment times and will accomodate the customer's schedule, even offering to drive you home if the wait is too long. The time estimates are accurate and the work done is excellent. He actually remembered who I was and what my issue was last time, which was pretty impressive. I'd highly recommend these guys for those living in the GTA.

Yes, when I was in there last time, they had a Chevrolet on the rack that they were working on. I think they say that Hondas are their specialty, but they can work on anything (I have a Nissan). I just got some work done tonight and they were honest and told me that there is nothing wrong with my car, aside from a noise issue which they fixed. What a relief this was, compared to the dealership, where I swear, they seem to find nothing wrong during the warranty period, but literally the week after the warranty ends they start "noticing things" which may not need to be done (and this happened every subsequent visit), but well, they figure they now have free licence to pillage your wallet after the warranty is done. Hence, I no longer go to the dealership. NEVER AGAIN. Was looking for an honest mechanic/shop - I understand that things need to be fixed from time to time, but all I am looking for is some honesty in giving me the assessments. I can say that 360 Auto has good integrity and is trustworthy. I'd recommend them without hesitation, and judging by the responses here, I'm not the only one.

Wow, that is one nice endorsement for 360 lol, thank you for the honesty.

I too hate the dealerships, the recent quote for rotors + pads was just disgusting (were talking past the $1500 range)

I started taking my wife's car here for oil changes last year. Recently my wife's 2003 Corolla recently developed a noise that resembled a helicopter (whoomp, whoomp, whoomp sound) while driving at low speeds. I suspected the bearings might have gone on one or both of the front wheels. Toyota wanted over $400 to inspect and then do the repair. Small wonder I said no thanks and drove away from the dealer.

Instead we went to see Chi at 360. He took the car around the block and then hoisted it up to confirm the bearings were shot on the front passenger side. He was very reasonable at $220. This included help (free of charge) with a minor repair to refasten the lower lip on the front bumper (passenger side) that came loose when the car bumped into some ice over the winter. So if you are looking for an honest and reliable mechanic, we recommend Chi at 360. We feel fortunate to have found him through this and other forums that endorsed 360 auto.

Sounds like a very good shop.

I've had similar experiences at one shop I frequent ( Robinsons ) in the west end GTA.

Once the diagnosis was done on my vehicle, the owner walked me back to the shop where my vehicle was on the hoist and he first showed me the various diagnostic drill down steps he'd used using his shop lap-top , scopes, testers to isolate the problem(s) and then he walked me through the steps of the repairs required while it was on the hoist.

But one thing I do especially like it Chi's professionalism. You know how you get the sense about people just by talking with them? I can tell he's just telling it like it is, and is not trying to rip you off. The value in the honesty and professionalism and skill of a good shop can't be understated IMO.

Whether it's my shop in the west end or Chi's up north, just having the ' peace of mind ' that the shop knows how to correctly diagnose a problem the first time ( i.e. won't ' guess ' and just throw parts at a problem ) and they aren't in it to rip you off is worth it's weight in gold IMO. :)

I'd highly recommend these guys for those living in the GTA.

I feel the same away about Robinsons as well.

Either way, +1 for Chi and the guys at 360 Auto, definitely top notch customer service, honesty and very reasonable prices. Have taken numerous cars there and have sent my friends as well. Also, don't forget they do everything from oil changes to body work.

Because of the good recommendations from this thread, I've got an appointment with Chi from 360 Auto today for an oil change and tire set change. I'll post back here in regards to how it was when I get back. :)

Edit: Just got back. Chi was very courteous and the job was done quite fast. Not to mention the waiting room has a PC to waste time on. Overall, the work was very well done and though I was made aware that I need new brakes, it was pressure-free.

So +1 for Chi at 360 Auto.

Sometimes it just takes a bit of work to find them. ;)

I think he has more expertise on Japanese cars but for basic stuff (oil, brakes, tires etc etc.) I'm sure he can work on anything.

IMHO when it comes to more complex stuff, especially electronics, you need to find a guy with all the diagnostics gear (VAG-COM, SDS, etc.) and manufacturer tech manuals. That's where a specialist is useful.
