Hi.

After going through many expensive earbuds (the daily grind at the gym breaks them down), I've settle on Skullcandy earbuds. They're not the greatest but the sound is honest, they fit in the ear nicely, they block enough outside sound in the subway and... they're cheap. When they break down (they all do), you only loose 15-25$, not 100$.

All this to say that the Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds are on sale again this week at The Source by CC. Usual price: $24.99, sale price: $14.99.

For this price range, you'd be much better off getting the Creative EP-630's from Dell for $20.

I was getting ready to pull a BOSE moment on your skullcandy. But then I saw they weren't $100 earphones, and therefore you didn't make a big mistake. haha.

Yeah, I gotta concurr. I have both the Skull Candy and the Creative buds (and the JVC Marshmallows, too). I think the Ink'd are the best deal of the bunch: best price, best fit, best sound.

The Marshmallows are a close second, but the foam inserts don't last very long, particularly if you wear them outside in the winter.

Hum, I'll have to give these a shot. I've tried the regular ipod headphones (I don't care about the sound when I'm jogging) but it always falls out of my left ear! Very annoying when you're jogging and it keeps falling out. I've resorted to some over the ear foldable ones but they tend to make my head get super warm and sweaty which isn't much fun!

Do the skullcandy ones actually stay in with all the bouncing/movement?

The Creative headphones stay in your ear if you select the right fit out of the 3 included inserts. (and clean the wax out of your ears!) ;)

I just picked up a pair from The Source.
While it is difficult to make a judgment about the quality without trying for yourself, here is some help. Answer these questions

- Do you think it is important to distinguish between left and right phone?
- Do you like detailed bass as opposed to tons of low-frequency mumbling?
- Do you enjoy clear highs?

If you answered yes to any of the questions, these phones may be not right for you. As you guessed, there are no Left/Right labels on them. Specs say the range is 20-20KHz, but it is a stretch, after 10KHz the volume goes down sharply. Bass is present; it is a little booming but not much.

A few weeks ago there was a thread about Shure headphones for about $30. Do yourself a favor and jump on to that deal, you will be much happier.

what do you think?

If you have more than two ears, you can stick then all in.

FWIW, I've had both the Creative and Skullcandy buds. I purchased the Creative ones for about $15 from Dell (I think it was Dell), and the Skullcandy's for $10 (one pair in the states at a FYE, and another pair at Best Buy). The quick differences I noticed are:

1) The Skullcandy's feel more comfortable in my ears. This is having tried all sizes from both companies.

2) The wiring on the Skullcandy's are less prone to tangling/becoming distorted than the Creative ones

3) The fitted-part on the Skullcandy's fall off of the earbuds much more easily than the creative's; I've lost something like 3 of them by accident

4) Having the L/R identifier would be nice on the Skullcandy buds.

5) Some of the Skullcandy buds are iPhone compatible (in that they don't need a headset adaptor). I was able to use the Creative ones with adaptor as well, but I had to "squish" it into the jack.

I just returned the Panasonics that I was using to The Source and they refused to honor the EWP since they had already replaced them two other times. They claimed that I should have been told this when I got the EWP and they even said that for the $7 I paid I got a good value, until I pointed out that they were all defective and lasted a few months at most (this last pair managed 28 days). Are you saying that you have replaced yours more than twice?

Just came back from the store. Picked up 2 pairs. Just be careful, the Skullcandy were still displayed at 24.99$. Had to ask for the price to be adjusted.

EP630: I would agree that the sound is a bit better but for me, they don't stay in place while doing sport, specially jogging.

To me,the Skullcandy's price and quality/price ratio is perfect. I use them and when they break down, I chuck them and use a new pair. For the first pair I bought, it took 8 months. At 15$, I don't feel bad about it.

I much preferred the Sony MDR-EX81 but the wiring just disintegrated after a few months and since they cost between 50-90$ a pop, I feel bad about that.

You can pull back the rubber sleeve on the jack revealing a low profile plug. The rubber sleeve is just for protection so you don't pull on the cord itself.

Well the two other times TSCC replaced them, they didn't write when was it replaced, but on my third time (the earbuds I'm using right now) was wrote on the receipt when it was replaced. But they were great earbuds, planning to get DX kinds now.
