Do you have any more details about this?
I have an old (broken) mp3 player I bought in Hong Kong a few years back that I would gladly trade in if I could.

I had an 8gb Zune for a while. I loved it.
Only problem was that my music stash was over 20gb... so I had a difficult time 'auto-filling' the Zune. I'm not sure you can do it with any iPod other than the shuffle either, though.
The FM radio is especially good -- picking up even the faintest signals. It uses RDS too, so you know the name of the song that's playing.
To use podcasts, you need to know the URL of the podcast (easily found from iTunes) for a one-time podcast setup. It auto-updates automatically.
The sound quality is better than a 2gb Shuffle, using the same 192kbps sound file, both unconverted when syncing, and while using the same pair of headphones. The bass is deep, the highs are crisp.
Zune social was a waste of time... really.
Wifi sync is slow, but useful if you have a separate dock. "Walk in, dock the thing, press sync on the player, and forgettaboudit"
Included headphones could be better... its about the same (or a tad better) than iPods.
The touch-navigation really rocks... you flick to navigate through the menus... iPod Touch style, and you can build up momentum to flip faster.
Sexy crisp display... perfect for podcasts but not much else... unless you're getting the 80gb.
just my 2-cents,

Tempting but I still have an old 4GB Nano, so it doesn't feel like that big of an upgrade to warrant unneeded spending. Then again ...

keep in mind this is just another form of their marketing schemes to promote a "sale" for mp3 players.
they've had the same "trade-in deals" for LCDs, TVs, and laptops
nobody in the public knows what they actually do w/ these trade-ins, but hopefully they do recycle it

sounds like its a simple 99 dollar sale for a zune, but they wanted to add the gimmick of trading in your mp3 player to get the 40 dollars off to make you feel that you got away with something
(yay, got rid of my crappy mp3 player and got a much better mp3 player with 40 dollars off)

ok under some of my own research lol

this appears to be a 1rst gen on the left and a 2nd gen on the right
i assume no responsibility of the correctness of this 1stgen and 2nd gen cross reference.

There's some decent pictures here of the 4GB Zune versus other MP3 players (mainly as a sort of size/looks comparison I guess). Might be worth a look to get a feel for the Zune if you haven't seen/used one before compared to other standard MP3s that you may have seen before.

ipod > zune > ipod touch
IMO. The zune is definitely better than the standard ipod but ipod touch is better than the zune but if price is taken into consideration the zune is my choice.
The 1st gen was never released in Canada. I was thinking about buying the 1st gen in the states when it was released.
Hmm I should see if I can find an old mp3 player.

hmmm...
I just returned a 4GB Zune from Best Buy.
The backlight stopped working, and the radio only found 2 stations when I was in Wisconsin.this was in the first 3 days of use. You can't manually tune a radio station, only seek.
Some warnings:
Audiobook support is non-existent, you must manually retag each file to trick it into being a podcast
The ordering of mp3's that make up the files you have do as a playlist (but then you get no bookmarking); or merge all the files into one big play list.
No Audible support (yet)
No Windows Media Player support (you can only sync from Zune software/media player).
No using the zune as a mass storage device (requires a 3rd party hack)
I may still try it again now that I can dump a 256 MB mp3 player.
PS: whoever posted that the zune screen is bigger is wrong, the Nano's screen is larger. It may appear bigger but the lcd is smaller than the glass over top.
PPS: Nope I don't own an iPod of any kind.

As with most of these types of promotions at FS/BB, they simply bin all of the items they receive. I bet they won't even allow employees to take anything home if they want it, for fear of somebody taking advantage of the program somehow.

Hmm never knew some of this but I never really used a zune on my own to test it out to its full potential. I played around with a buddy's zune and compared it to my ipod and I liked it.
Sucks how it can't be used as a mass storage device, I could do that with my ipod.

Can anyone comment on which of the 2 below would be better choice. My 7yr old son will inherit his moms 512 shuffle
I will buy her this Zune unit or the Creative Zen 2gb unit, cost would be $33 less at BB pricematching to FS where it is $69.99 same but the Zen has SD slot and bigger screen for movies. I doubt she will use all the Zune features as is but my son likes music so need to buy an additional mp3 player??
4gb Zune @ $99 after 512 trade in or 2GB Creative Zen for $67 + tax ??

I use a Zune 80, but it applies it too.
The backlight stopped working, and the radio only found 2 stations when I was in Wisconsin.this was in the first 3 days of use. You can't manually tune a radio station, only seek..
If you press the touch button in radio, you can easily toggle seek on/off.
Audiobook support is non-existent, you must manually retag each file to trick it into being a podcast.
Definitely annoying.
The ordering of mp3's that make up the files you have do as a playlist (but then you get no bookmarking); or merge all the files into one big play list..
Also can't play a playlist in album order, has to be alphabetically..:(
No using the zune as a mass storage device (requires a 3rd party hack)

Yeap, sucks :( Also installing 3rd party programs is quite a hassle...

Good Bye Mini Disc player!
If it's only a player that's fine, but if your MD records and has a mic-in jack, you may want to check eBay to see what your model goes for. There's still a decent market for the better recording units. I sold an old Sharp I had for nearly double what I paid for it new! :)

I did this today, sales guy took my old $10 MP3 player, put it in his pocket, then discounted the invoice. Interesting procedure...
Definately a gimic, but needed a pink one for the wife anyway. 2nd gen, 4GB, they did not test it to see if it worked or not (just don't put batteries in it). Grabbed the Altec speaker/clock dock thing for half price ($49.99 instead of $99) while I was at it too....

it is a warm deal for a regular 4gb player but its got features just as good (if not better than ipod) crisp screen, $99.99 compared to $139.99, podcasts, wifi for connecting to computer, itunes like software ($14 a month for unlimited legal music) or $0.99 cents a song. Radio. I consider this just as good as the ipod (but then again i am a bit biased due to the fact i own a zune now)
DEAL IS NOW DEAD
