If i post my last 6 months of bandwidth + show you this post
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/7207002-post56/
will you stop posting?
I've been using Astra & Usenetserver for 5+ years. Newgroups are not throttled in any way shape or form.
Torrents are. They are completely different beasts. Files are transferred in completely different ways.
Rogers doesnt have the bottle necks it used to where people would complain and they would wheen your line down. Rogers offers 50Mbps lines now. If you think that your 1.5mbps(10Mbps) is causing other rogers customers grief, i have some magic beans to sell you.
Magic beans seriosuly?
For free I'll take them, do you charge for pick up?
When did I say anything about my line causing anyone grief?
Post whatever you like dude, I'm all for it:lol:
Doesn't matter HOW files are transferred just how long and how much you transfer, seriously go check out how throttling is done these days.
How many of you have 50mbps? None.
So now about those magic beans, are they hypo or organic?
When can I come by for pick-up?
If you charge how much for what weight?
Seriosuly dude I was going to stop posting from my last post, don't you read?
Then you are expecting me to believe you about your bandwidth etc.....>:(
Now stop answering my posts and send me a private message on those beans.

Rogers throttles large packet sharing as in when you are constantly downloading via newsgroups/torrents. So say you are downloading your m**** file most of the time it's 47.6mb correct?
You are constantly downloading this size for hours a day correct?
That's a dead giveaway to rogers that it's either newsgroups/torrents.
Rapidshare works differently in that there are 200mb/100mb file packages that get downloaded at a time and since it's fast you are looking at less than 4 minutes per file so even if you constantly download stuff via Rapidshare they'll never throttle the speed since it's not a constant sharing of packets.
The throttling is all done automatically, not by users, so once they've programmed the parameters on what types of bandwidth usage to look for, ie large sharing packets or constant sharing of packets, that's what they will throttle. They haven't and would never throttle http packet travers because it's not consistant enough and would be a pain to program for.
this is your explanation for how rogers is throttling newsgroups?
if anything, downloading from newsgroups is more similar to RS or MU than torrents. its a direct download of files from a server using SSL, and files can be any size. i'd really like to know how rogers is throttling newsgroups as you claim they are.

I wont quote your last post smokie, because it's too long and has little to no good info in it.
It is much more likely that they are throttling on an individual basis than geographical areas where bandwidth is an issue.

Now he's clearly moving into the "loser error" territory.

Anyone heard of cheapuse.net someone over at another forum mentioned it and is similiar to Astraweb but no posting or SSL the price $7.99 per month is good, I may try it since my xlned expires tomorrow.

I'm currently using simplyusenet, 7.99$ a month for 8 connections and a capped 8Mb speed limit (I'm on a 6Mb line so no problems), with SSL and unlimited bandwith.
The also have other packages for lower/higher speed cap.

Interesting, how is the retention?
They say 510 days, I have downloaded stuff around 200 days old and it went smoothly apart from a few missing article here and there ( nothing that the pars could'nt fix).
I tried Astraweb before and I'm pretty sure they offer a better service but hey, this is RFD, I HAD to save 3 bucks a month!

Thanks, I'll give it a try since my xlned will expires tomorrow and they have only about 220 days retention...I read from a german forum that this person tried a 500 days NBZ and no problem with simply usenet...afterall I could test it for a month, like you said...hey this is RFD, it is $2 savings plus I don't need to pay 1 year in advance. Thanks again.

The offers ends January 21st, after that, the 8Mb account is back to 11$ (same as Astraweb, so really frozen solid deal)

Better than cheapuse.net I found since it offer free SSL, the only concern I have is the speed....my Xlned 2.5Mbits but it goes up and down in between 1.8-2.8 and most of the below 2.5.....I have a 5Mbits DSL so I would think the 8Mbits is good for me even if it goes up and down.
