The plan we all know and love has risen from the dead.

I was on the phone today with my friend just trying to get free features, and they mentioned that as of this day the 17.30 plan is back. I know that Bell right now has a very good deal on their 17.30 Student plan, but we're not all students.

- 200 daytime minutes
- evenings starting at 6pm
- voicemail 3
- call waiting, conferencing

You just have to say "No it isn't". When I was on the phone with Telus the girl I was talking to said that that plan has expired, but then I got transferred to someone that has more authority than her and he said that as of this day they are offering it again.

I assume this is +SAF?

you're right SAF not included.

how about the incoming time ? thx

What I did was I complained how they don't offer per second billing, and that I miss out a lot since I pay for 200 minutes and mathematically probably getting less than 150. They first offered me 150 bonus daytime minutes, but I said I'd much rather have unlimited incoming.

I'm telling you guys, I did not renew my contract.

and I dont mean to brag but I am really impressed with my plan right now.

- 300 daytime minutes
- unlimited incoming
- 250 messages
- voicemail 3
- caller id
- call conferencing, call waiting

Because it's not really dead. You just had to call them and get lucky to have a rep. who would give it to you.

That doesn't really matter; what you got is a retention plan. The $17.30 Insider Plan itself requires one (this is definitely the case for new customers).

I think I'm going to try and hook my gf up with this plan. She's been with Telus for about 1.5 years on a 2 year contract. Think I can get a retention like offer with this plan? Like free text, long distance, caller ID. If someone wouldn't mind letting me know if its possible or not that would be great, but I'm still going to try anyways.

it was actually my friend who called, he was just calling to complain that he feels he's being overcharged for his current plan and just mentioned that Bell is offering for 17.30, initially the rep said that they used to have a similar plan which expired a few weeks ago. Later he was transferred to another rep who said that as of today that plan is again on the table. He ended up going for a different deal that better suited him but I later took the phone and told him to hook me up with this plan.

The funny thing is before I was on the Sweet Deals 25 plan, which had 100 minutes. I told them it wasn't enough and they added 100 minutes as a feature, totalling 200 minutes. Now that I changed my plan to the 17.30, the feature stayed and the new plan has 200 minutes totalling 300 for me.

and artoodetoo, I joined Telus on a 2 year contract and now have 17 months left.

is there any sort of add-on that lets you receiving free incoming (for a fee)? I'm currently paying 25$+saf for 100daytime, nights+wknd starting at 9 but I have free incoming. If I could get them to add incoming for 7$ or so, i'd be paying a similar price but getting more airtime..

dude, just call them and complain to them that they dont offer per-second-billing the way fido does, and that they dont offer bonus minutes in case you ever run, like rogers does. I did that and they offered to add 150 daytime minutes and I just told them I'd much rather have unlimited incoming. He didn't have a problem giving it to me.

I've convinced Telus to give me the EPP plan, which wasn't tough at all, but they are now telling me I can either keep my unlimited SMS, or get caller ID, they won't give me both. Going to call back one last time and switch from my current plan, but I've noticed they are taking rather good notes on each call, so you can't just start from scratch with someone else.

I'm also told that the plan is only good if you have over a year left on contract or will renew. I have just over 11 months, but because someone made a mistake and offered it to me, they will honour.

If I do choose to sign for 2 years starting from today, they will give me both the SMS and caller ID, but I'd rather be done with them and let this contract run out.

Thanks OP

I just got off the phone with Telus and switched both my lines over to the $17.30 plan, and added the $5 a month text messaging plan as well to both. Now, i'm only paying $65 taxes in, instead of $92.

Took less than 5 minutes, worked great. Thanks again.

People are asking too many questions, mostly how to get free features.

This is what I learned in the past month which is how long it took me to obtain my current plan.

1. Asking never hurts. Calling them and saying you feel like you're getting ripped off will get you something for free. Will be worth around $5.

2. Blackmailing works. Tell them you're being offered a very nifty plan from Rogers and you'd rather stay loyal to Telus. Ask them what they can do for you.

3. Lying is no *****. Call them up, agree to a $7 a month Caller ID (or whatever you want, don't be greedy though) and wait 10 minutes. Call them back and say that you were promised by the last individual you spoke with that this was going to be free but then you checked online and it wasn't. Remember they will never call you a liar and they'll just have to honor it.

4. They have "codes" that they need to find before they can add a feature to your account free of charge. So when they mention "give me a second I need to go find the code for that", ask them "What else do you have a code for?"

The fact is for all Telecom companies the overhead is really small. It probably costs a couple of dollars paid through from every account to maintain the servers and pay the employees, so never feel sorry.

I've wound up sticking with Telus, with 11 months remaining on my 2 year contract.

They gave me the EPP plan for $17.30 with the standard 200min, evenings at 6, voicemail. On top of that they threw in an extra 50 minutes, caller ID, and the messaging 250 plan.

Switched off of the Student 40 plan from last summer, losing 100 minutes and the 8 my faves, which weren't a huge help anyways, but paying less than half the cost.

There is... I called to ask for unlimited incoming and they added it for $10/month.

It seems some people are able to get this added for free, but I'm finding it difficult to justify. I'm already on the EPP 17.30 plan, with some extras thrown in.

Got a cellphone at work, so I don't really need my telus phone anymore.
Called them up, and told them as much. This is what I got, no contract:
200 anytime minutes
200 long distance minutes (North America)
Evenings and weekends starting at 6
Call waiting, voice mail
Was told that if I signed a 1 year contract (which I am not interested in), I would get free incoming and 250 text messages
Total, after SAF and 911 is 25$ (17.30 a month). I was happy with it. You can really negotiate with them. They offered my call display, and I told them I didn't want it, but wanted more long distance minutes, and they upped it from the original 75 they offered to 200.

Can you clarify that? Do you mean that you pay the regular rate (like $1/min or whatever it is); or do you mean your phone won't work in the States?

Where I camp is close to the US border with no Canadian coverage; it's nice to be able to make an emergency call if needed.

200 long distances minutes to anywhere in North America

Free Caller ID, voice mail 3, conference call, and call waiting

hi, i just got quoted for this plan for a friend of mine:

$17.30

200+50 anytime
unlimited E/W starting 6pm
Voicemail
Caller ID
Conference call/call waiting

i had to quote a rogers plan to get the 50 anytime and caller ID added on....do you think i can get a better deal?
also do u think its possible to get a $49.99 phone from 3 years contract for free?
theres 4 more months til the end of a 3 year contract and we're willing to renew for another 3 years...any help would be appreciated.

I was with Telus for 2 years back in the day with the brick nokia phones, changed to bell for 3 years and then back to telus for 3 years. I recently renewed my 3 year contract for another 3 years and upgraded to an instinct phone.

Talk to me 25
100 daytime minutes
Unlimited local incomming minutes
100 long distance minutes
1000 E/W after 9pm
VM3, call waiting
Spark 7 --> CID + 100 txt messages
= $25 + $7 (spark) + SAF + 911 + tax = $44.56/month

Before I renewed, I used to have unlimited E/W after 6pm for $7
so $44.56 + $7 = $52.49/month but I took this off.

Help me get unscrewed.

I would like CID and a better txt message plan included in the EPP 17.30. Is this unreasonable? Being able to keep the unlimited local incoming minutes would be great...

Just got off the phone with telus.
Got the EPP plan with a little wrangling.
Also got the spark 15
-unlim text
-unlim web
-vm 10
-CID
-CFW

so 17.30+15 = way more for way less than what I was paying before

how's the instinct? I'm thinking of getting that but not sure. i tried it out a bit at the Telus store but couldn't really decide at the moment.
1. how's the feel? does the touchpad respond well?
2. is the reception good in buildings, etc?
3. how sturdy does it feel? should i be worried about the screen cracking?
4. can you talk for awhile without it overheating or battery needing recharged?
5. how's the gps?

thanks

ps. you should REALLY talk to the telus loyalty program. just demand to be transferred to loyalty dept. or call direct. there was a phone number posted a few pages back

If NEW CUSTOMERS want a discount on a phone with the basic EPP plan, PM me. I can't help existing customers and I can't help new customers get anything added for free onto the EPP plan. There's also another EPP plan with 600 minutes for $32.

Help!
I need some assistance with what to say when I call up Telus.
I don't know why but everytime I call them, the Telus Reps give me such a hard time. I am reading all these forums and It's making me furious because the telus reps do NOT negotiate with us. They don't budge.

In my family there are 4 telus clients. My dad has been a telus client for approximately 7 years and he's been paying for all 4 of our telus bills. My family recently changed family plans and telus gave us a crappy plan. I got what they call, "Proliferating Charges" meaning my family had to pay pretty much for old plan and the new plan. I changed plans during the middle of the month so I had to pay for half of the new and the old plan.

I am furious about other things like I was not well-informed and the reps lied but it's just going to get nasty.

The feel of the phone is nice, it has a nice weight to it and feels very sturdy.

The touchpad responds fairly well to most standards but not to mine. My company designs/makes flat panel displays for military applications, most with touchpanels so the response of the instinct TP is not as good as what I am used to. Sometimes you press buttons and the phone will make a tone which means it recognized the press but nothing happens. This probablem happens most frequently when using the keyboard for text messages, mainly with the space button. However, I still like the touchpanel over real keys.

The screen is supposed to be a hard coated glass so it won't crack however I am not confident that it won't scratch so I advise to get one of the clear display protectors.

Battery life is really good if you aren't playing with it all the time (music, internet, ect.). I believe the estimated talk time from samsung is 5.5-6 hours.

The signal quality is pretty sketchy at times, the bars change ALOT. 2-3 bar deviation while standing still, however I have never experienced poor call quality even when it says I have 0 bars. I live in an all concrete condo and I can make/receive calls in the 2nd under ground garage level.

GPS I don't know, I havent used it.

I got the EPP plan for $17.30!
One telus account had the EPP Plan plus an additional $2 to extend the early evening and weekend at 5pm.
Total= $25

Another Telus account had the EPP Plan plus myfave5 for $5.
Total=$32

I'm very satisified with my Telus account!

Thanks OP.

I'm out of contract with Telus and I needed to rethink my old plan. I got the EPP plan:
200 Minutes
25 long distance minutes
voicemail, call forwarding, call conferencing, caller ID
free after 6pm
free weekends
no contract, still month-to month
option to upgrade to a 2 or 3 year term and get a new phone at the new sign-up cost

$28.25/mo, taxes and everything in.

Not quite the insane plans some have got, but not bad either.

They also offered me a cheapo plan for the other phone we have that's really only used a few minutes a month for emergencies - $10.15 (+ taxes only) for 25 minutes w/ caller ID. Good enough!

I just saved at least $30/mo on my cell bill. Thanks again RFD. :)

Got it!

We had two phones on a family plan. Costing us almost $90 a month.

Now both phones are on the EPP/Insider plan.

First call the girl tried saying it ended on Sept. 3rd. But she would give it to us anyways. But she wanted to lock us into a 3 year contract again.

Second call, the guy just put us on it until the end of our current contract, which ends in 6 months, 13 days. He also said in two weeks we could go for phone upgrades, because once 6 months or less is left, that it is essentially the end of the contract.

Thanks OP! Saved us $30 a month easily.

Meant to add, this is what we got for $17.30 + SAF +taxes.

us roaming @ 95 cents
voicemail 3
unlimited evening and weekends @ 6pm.
long distance @ 35 cents

information services info
sms basic service
call display
call waiting
conference calling
spark sampler

Now idea yet on how many day time minutes, would assume 200 though.

Called LnR and the rep offered me the 17.30 plan without me asking directly for it however he would not add anything to the plan for free. To add unlimited incoming minutes and 100 canada LD minutes (which I already have included in my plan) he said $10 each.

$17.30+$20+SAF+911+tax = $50.85

That is more than what I am already paying.

Even just to add extra day time minutes to the 17.30 plan he said $5 for 50 mins and $10 for 100 mins...

Current plan:
Talk to me 25
100 day time mins
100 canada LD mins
unlimited incoming mins
1000 e/w after 9pm
VM3, CC, CW
spark 7 (CID 100 outgoing/unlimited incoming text messages)
25+7+SAF+911+tax = 44.58/month

What do I do? Call back and hope for somebody else?

just drop the 100 canada LD minutes and save $10. do u talk a lot during the day? if not, then u can drop the unlimited incoming as well.

I talked to a rep about texting, and they're not big on giving away text packages for free. You might get a discounted package.

Bear in mind that if you (like me) don't really use text, you can always ask telus to disable it so you'll never receive (and therefore get billed for) texts. Also, if you get sms spam they'll refund you later.

How long was your contract? If it was a two or three year one, you could easily get a way better plan than the EPP. Just takes a bit of negotiating.

After trying to negotiate, and realizing that you haven't gotten a good offer, say you have to run, but you'll call back later tonight. That's an easy way to get out of the situation. Or just ask that they document their offer on your customer notes, and call back... saying you're not happy with the offer.

17.30$

W/E & evenings after 6pm

With Fido, i have WE & Evenings at 5PM and per-seconde billing.

so they're not giving me any extras for being with them for over 8 years. I'll switch to Fido.

No such thing as per minute billing anymore ..... unless you go with Fido or if you have a grandfathered plan.

To answer your first two questions;
1) you have 30days to exchange the handset if you don't like it.
2) No, they wont get any more 'amazing' plans in the near future ... this is as good as it gets especially with extras tagged on.

As for getting more out of them, you have to decide what you want really. If they give you the hardware for free, don't expect anything more. Not even sure if they'll do this, but personally, I would rather pay for the hardware and push for free add-ons such as; txt/caller id/voicemail, etc.

You can get much better deals by dealing with L&R provided you have some history ... For someone walking off the street, these plans are OK at best.

I work for telus too. Yeah with the current promo we can win a plasma tv or a ps3. Pretty nice. I don'T consider it as advertising though since the team webstore is for new activation only. And you won't be able to deal with LnR if you are not a TELUS cx. So for those looking to switch, it's a good deal. For those already on a plan, it doesn't help at all...

If you want to help me get one of those TV, just PM me, i'll give you my login info... :-P

I tried providing the information about these plans a month ago and that thread was flamed out of existence. How is this thread still active?

It's 300 minutes and no it's not BPS

Is it billing by the second? Because if it isn't, then it really isn't 200 minutes and its not really that great of a deal. Most likely you will go over your minutes and your bill will be higher.

I suppose it could be as there is a promo on right now, then again I think there's always something going on. I'm not really going for the hard sale here, just sharing a good price. You're right that they can't touch L&R deals, this industry really rewards customer loyalty, but they're certainly better than the plans that arrive by flyer.

Personally I think the student plans are the best when if you're considering a smartphone (once you have one you can't go back).

Hi,

I have this plan for my daughter, and still 1.5 year has left down the road.
She wants to buy iphone (on her own) and guess with Rogers.

Anybody please, if had an experience with switching the cell phone companies, you think Rogers would take over the plan, if she signs new 3 year contract?

Any catches (fees) might be involved?

Thx.

Rogers has it own 17.xx plan, so they may be able to match whatever you have right now. The big fee is the early cancellation fee that telus will charge you. The other cell carrier (ie. rogers) will not cover that (usually).

Hi guys, sorry for anoff topic question, but I need the answer ASAP.
Can I use the Blackberry perl for Telus spark 10 (surf 100 sites for free), and SMS txt msg, without the DATA plan? I just lost the LG Venus, and could check gmail/hotmail/yahoo/IM with LG Venus.
Thanks!

turns out I still have a yr left on my contract but they were willing to let me get the epp if I sign an extra year, which shouldn't be much of a problem but they wouldn't give me a free phone upgrade, anyway to get it ? Also is telus pay by second ?

Telus is giving away LG Dare for free (with $50 gift certificate to Futureshop or The Bay for 3 year NEW activition) for 3 year contracts.

Get the insider plan or retain the plan you have.

I'm grabbing the phone tonight.

Anyone know if the LG Dare has a GPS that can be worked without paying Telus extra fee? Is there a third party software download?
