I thinking of replacing our CRT TV (which is dying) with an LCD HDTV, but most don't have built-in speakers.

This TV is for the bedroom so I don't want to turn it into a home theater. Any alternatives to adding a receiver?

depends on tv, some dont need a receiver to do 2 channel sound.

Most LCD TV's I've seen have stereo speakers built in or attached.

If you're looking for surround sound the logitech z-5500 is a great little system and can be had for less than $200 if you find a good deal.

well if you don't want it to be a home theatre experience, there will be no need for 5.1 channels of audio since i don't think you'll be placing any speakers behind you.. I'd say you should go for the Z-2300 from logitech, you can find them for around $89 or $99 at Canada Computers. It's a killer deal and are THX branded. You'll get the bext bang for the buck with 400 wats of audio from a 2.1 set

unless it says "monitor" it should have speakers. I have a super cheap 26: viewsonic i got from costco, works fine, isnt a HT setup but it works well for the bedroom.
