Quality LAPTOP/NOTEBOOK for < $600?

I'm now considering purchasing a laptop/notebook. I intend on using it for surfing, application development, and playing HD movies. Playing games on it will be next to never. It should also have wireless capabilities.

I recall the simpler days with Pentium 4 vs Celeron. Today I see so many processors with random #s that now i have no clue what would be suitable. I certainly dont want to get stuck with a celeron equivalent. Please recommend a good price/performance laptop. I'm looking for something below $600.

Also if you're aware of a site that runs thru the various CPUs I'd be appreciative.

What i would do is wait for the inspiron to go on sale again (was recently on sale for $370).

It's a 15 inche and you can configure it to your liking.

Try to get a core 2 duo (not dual core) processor.

One good thing for you would probably be the HDMI out port on the dells.

IBM/Lenovo often has sales/coupons too, and a modestly configured R-series would be just about $600 or some more.

In terms of processors at that pricepoint, there are often still 'Celerons'. Just opt for the non-celeron versions.

To start: Core 2 Duo > Core Duo > Pentium M Centrino.
