Looking to get one for my gf, should i buy online or in person? I heard that the warranty isn't honored online. Where can I buy one that has warranty?

Visit a salon. They will be able to get you a really good one. They usually sell the brand that they use in their salon.
Also, you may want to check Winners. I have seen Chi and Rusk flat irons there. But with Winners, it is always a hit and miss. Good luck!

I'd buy at a store just because you can try them out to see how they work first. You never really know what you are getting when you buy online.

I bought my last flat iron at Trade Secrets, and the last time I was there, they had a few sales on flat irons. May be worth it to check there. As for the warranty, I think most places give you about a year...

My BioIonic one is from Trade Secrets, and I bought it b/c my stylist uses the same one! Try one of the stylist at the back (just for a wash/blow dry) and ask her to use one of the ones you are interested in before you buy!

Do any B&M stores carry it like the bay? I'd like to be supported under warranty incase anything happens.. and from what I've heard, they do not offer warranty for online purchases. Is this fact or fiction?

fiction i think.

check out the folica website for a chi iron and there's a blurb on the warranty:

CHI Warranty Details

Farouk Systems Inc, offers a guarantee of one (1) year from date of purchase against defects caused by faulty material or workmanship. Not covered by the guarantee are steel parts, plastic parts, flex cord as well as damages caused by improper handling

i've had my chi for over a year and so far no problems. i think the main cause of probs is when you wrap the cord around the iron during storage... just make sure you don't do that and it should be fine.

Have you ever purchased from that website? I wanted to buy a Sedu from them (because it got such amazing reviews on the site), but thought I'd be better off buying from a real store. The prices seem so low at first, but they really aren't once you factor in the cost for shipping, taxes and converting to Canadian dollars.

It's a bit expensive to buy in Canada... I think Trade Secrets and BSO have it locally. I use the original one and it works great. No probs what so ever.

Another vote for www.Folica.com.

I have also ordered from http://www.haircutterstore.com/ when they had a fabulous coupon code. The shipping was a bit slow, but the price blew Sephora's out of the water. Customer service was good - they gave me free shipping as a compensation.

Thank you! I think I'll be ordering my next flat iron from them :)

I've also ordered 3 flat irons from folica.com (over the last 4 years). Each time, I was going to the States for several days and had it shipped to where I was staying. That way it was free shipping. Also, I was gone long enough that I could declare it when crossing the border with no problem.

Even if you're not going to the States to save on delivery costs, I can say that all the flat irons I got still work and the prices there were a lot cheaper than the same ones here (I have 2 HAI and 1 Solia). Next I'm going to try the Sedu.

Folica.com has already been vouched for in this thread; but I haven't purchased from them personally. I was able to get my Chi for $100 cad at a beauty trade show. But I know 2 other ppl who've purchased from the site and they had absolutely no problems w/ them and they got great deals compared to the prices @ the salons.

Any advice I can pass on to someone who bought a Chi less than a year ago and now it's broken? Even sadder is the fact that she lost her receipt and because she paid in cash (tsk!) can't even trace it through CC statements ;( ('sorry if this is off-topic)

Don't waste your money.. at my local SDM the brands they sell are only Conair or Vidal Sassoon.. and neither of those brands' compare to CHI or the ones you find in salons.

The more expensive ones are a lot better. They aren't as damaging either. I use my chi and it doesn't feel like it damages my hair. It still feels soft after using it.

i agree with above post that the more expensive ones are a lot better
i've used baybliss, chi and currently using FHI...
i used ot think that the CHI was the best thing thta could happen to my hair until i started using the FHI...
i have insanely curly hair and i need to pass it through my hair ONCE with the FHI - which means less damage
in my opinion they are well worth the investment

Trade Secrets. I was going to get those but the sales told me they don't offer 3 year warranty anymore. So I got the CS kind instead. She said works just as well. Had it for months and I love it!

Anyone have any advice on if I should pick up the Chi or the Metropolis from Trade Secrets? Both are 150. The lady told me it's all about preference and was really pushing the metropolis because of the 10 year warranty. I wasn't really sure, and I can't really test them since it's for a gift and I'm a guy lol.

thanks in advance for any advice. I haven't been able to find many reviews on the metropolis online.

I don't know about Metropolis, but a family member bought a CHI and it broke within the year. Unfortunately, receipt was lost ;(

Metropolis' 10 year warranty sounds good (if one keeps the receipt ;) Hopefully, others who use this, will post to help you with your choice.

Yeah I'm hoping someone will have experience with both. If I don't hear anything back I'll probably go with the Metropolis simply for the extended warranty. Just have to make sure not to lose the receipt.

Does anyone know where to buy a FHI flat iron in Toronto? I called all the salons in Promenade mall and Yorkdale and none of them carry FHI. What's worse is some of them haven't even heard of FHI :cheesygri

Update: Found one at Fairview Mall, second floor. De Berardinis!

Don't know if any of you guys have tried the Conair steam straightener but it works for me. I borrowed it from my best friend the other day and it is amazing - lasts longer than my CHI. There was a little tag on the cord that read "Not for household use" so I'm assuming that means it's high heat?
