Here's the story.

I went to CT to get PM for an item on sale elsewhere at $100 where at CT, the price is at $150. They did fight hard not to price match but after arguing for an hour and talking to head office, they did agree to price match.

Now the thing is that their price match policy states basically this: "CT would PM and give the customer back 10% of the ORIGINAL price in CT money". You got it right 10% of the ORIGINAL price and not the DIFFERENCE in pricing. (this statement is written on a board i saw in 2 different stores)

So the original price to match is $100 consequently I got 10 CT dollars back.

I do not need to buy anything big but right now, based on their policy, for example, if an item cost $4999 elsewhere but is sold at $5000 at CT (could be a giant 64" LCD for example). Well, if you can get them to PM (which will not be easy), they will have to give you back 10% on $4999 = $499 in CT money and not 10$ on the difference which is 10% on $1 = 10 cents. So all you need is to find is an item that may only be 1cent less than CT and try to get the 10% back which is really the thing to look for here.

BTW, their computer system did automatically calculate the payback and I did get my $10 on the $100 they PM. Also, based on what I see when dealing with the salesperson, I think they will bring this matter up to their management and change it. So if you want to use this policy, got to do it before it is too late.

So the original price to match is $100 consequently I got 10 CT dollars back.

Didn't you say the original price was $150 and you got it matched to $100? If you in fact did read the sign correctly, they should have given you $15 back, not $10.

I priced matched a GPS a while back, they said no problem but then when I told them theyhad to give me back 10% of the difference in CT cash they had to clue how to do that. The manager just ended up knocking another 10 bucks of the item.

So they should have given 10& of the original price, where do you see that?

Take a picture for us of the sign, is it 10% of the lower price or Original price?

"Price Match Guarantee
Canadian Tire will match any competitor’s price on an identical item AND give customers an extra 10% of the lower price in Canadian Tire “money”.
The competitor’s lower price must be verifiable (advertised price, flyer, phone call, etc.)
Whether an item is ‘identical’ will be determined by looking at:
- product features
-brand/manufactuer
-model/size/volume
-warranty

Any questions over whether an item is ‘identical’ will be resolved on a case-by-case basis by the Dealer, Store Manger, General Manager or other appointed Manager.
The Price Match Guarantee program applices to compitor’s regular and sale prices.

Exceptions to the Price Match Guarantee program are:
labour, competitors’s clearance, bankruptcies, volume discounts, mail-in rebates, wholesale prices not available to the general public, live goods, web-based competitors, propane tank refills.

Thank you for bringing this item to our attention. Your assistanace will help Canadian Tire price our products more competitively."

Its 10% back in Ct money of the lower price, not the original price.

True as I had received 10% on the lower price.

The scenario I described is still valid though. 10% on lower price can be a lot of CT money. Elsewhere offer 10% on the difference.

So if you can pricematch something from $1999 to $1998 ($1 off), they'd give you back $199.9 in CT money as well? That's a sweet policy if it's true! I'd love to see someone take a picture of that sign though, seems too good to be true.

Even if it's the lower price, that could still be way hotter than the difference.
