Transferring Lease of a 2005 Jeep

A bud of mine has moved to the States and has given me his Jeep for the next 6 months. The lease will expire on March 15th. I think there is about 74,000km on it and we are allowed 81,000 and plan to return it right before 81,000km (even if that is 2-3 months for now)

What's the best way for me to transfer everything over - I assume hit up Chrysler and they will do everything for me?

Should I do the insurance transfer before? Will they allow me to go month to month?

Anything else I should be wary about?

Tell your buddy to make the remaining payments for the lease, and return the vehicle if he has moved to the US and no longer needs the vehicle.

Taking over a lease with 7,000 klms remaining does not make much sense, especially that you will be responsible for the excess wear and tear at lease termination.

But there is no wear at all on this thing that I can see...looks like new...

When I do the transfer, will they not do an inspection anyways at the dealership?

The ownership prob still shows buddy's name on it with the leasing co. get the lease company to take his name off and put your name on, then forward a copy to your insurance broker to process the change. Quite possible you'll have to sign the lease papers but that I am not 100% about, check first.

Its your money, you have the right and freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want, and you can learn before or after you are also quite free to do that too.
