Jiggle the steering left and right as you try to unlock the ignition.

^ That's all I can think of too.

This happened to my uncle and I had to unlock his Integra. LOL

if my memory serves me correct, it's been long time ago, you can put your key into a slot where you can unlock the shifter which happens once in a blue moon when the parking mechanism locks it out for whatever reason. (This happended in my integra btw).

thanks for all the replies guys...

i read over the manual and it says the "shift lock" is intended only for towing purposes and should not be attempted to use us an unlockin mechnism for noraml driving. So don't want to risk that.

KorruptioN probably has it right. Put the key in the ignition, turn the steering wheel to the left it should only move about an inch (i might be wrong and it might be right i cant remember) and turn the key. This should unlock the steering/ignition lock.

Might help more if you told us what car this is though.

That is what I was thinking too. What kind of road side assistance is this? Camping on the road side and hope they may come one day to assist you?

This should be the first thing you try. I've been in this situation a few times with other peoples cars, and that's always fixed it. To be honest I've never figured out what causes this situation. GL

heres a lil timeline to explain where does "tommrow" come from.
1900 - called nissan, was told tow truck would be here in 2hrs
2130 - Tow truck arrived, but couldnt get into the parking floor cux of height clearance. Was told if i need another tow truck to come it will be another 2hr wait, so i told them i will go home for now and call them again this morning.
This morning...
0700 - Called them again, another tow truck will be here in two hours
0945 - Tow truck came, released shift lock, drove to dealer myself with tow truck following behind in case it ceases up again.
1030 - @ home waitin for dealer to call to confirm everything is ok, was told this was caused by drain spill ? Oil leakage over some componenets?

Oil leak cause the steering wheel and starter to lock? Doesn't make sense What year and model is your car?

so the tow truck driver released the shifter but that doesn't explain why your starter and steering wheel works :?:

Jiggle the steering left and right as you try to unlock the ignition.

If you are on a slope, really jiggle that steering wheel. I've had the same problem & solution.

sounds like the dealer is trying to make some $$ while your car is in there...

Ride is back from dealership and fully 10-8.
Cause: Broken brake light sensor...fixed under warranty free of charge
In plain english: The thing that senses ure pressing down on the brake and relases the shift lock is broken.

PS: MY APPOLOGIES....

i forgot to add that i unlocked the steering by twisting and turning it a bit...so only the shifter was left locked until the tow guy showed up.

You're talking about the park-neutral position switch.
