Now I know I'll probably get flamed for one reason or another but trust me this is a good deal.

Got this last time it was on sale and its really good. The software is good for trip planning, and the GPS is a very good computer GPS. The GPS unit is much smaller than the 2006 and earlier versions and it has the SiRFstar III chipset which gives a faster and more stable signal lock, and higher accuracy. Nowhere else can you get a USB GPS for $20. Also it uses standard NMEA so you can use this GPS with any other software (like netstumbler for the war drivers out there).

Yeah, I've learned that too with FD. The salesperson might roll their eyes, but who cares? I don't want to go home with a dud, and waste gas to go back and get it replaced.

Can this GPS receiver work with other mapping software for other regions such as Europe or Aisa? Are there other free or low cost mapping software available for Europe or Asia?

At FD, should always open and inspect anything, refurbs or even new stuff, before walking out the door! :cheesygri

They have a tendency to sell returned/broken merchandise again and again without checking.

Mostly likely they give you the broken one on purpose happens all the time with FD. they say its the last one and give you a returned unit hoping you dont experience this (wishful thinking on FD part). Happened to me so I know it. Go and replace it is My advice

I got one DOA as well... Back I go tomorrow :(
Picked up to use with a netbook.
I have an old Pharos GPS-360 for my now-unused iPAQ. To get a cable to hook it up to USB instead of the iPAQ is about $40. Fortunately, the adapter for the new GPS (Pharos GPS-500) works with the older receiver, so worst-case, I use the new software and adapter with my old receiver...

This would go great with that new Acer Aspire One to use as a nav system.

Warm deal considering it being refurb and from FD. I got my Street and trips 2006 for $149.99. So for $20 the receiver alone or the software is worth it. Thanks OP for posting

Remember this is refurbished. I got one back in January and it was DOA. The exchanged one was also DOA. Third finally worked.

Something to remember.

I got lucky, went to replace the dead one, they cracked open a 2006 retail version and pulled the GPS receiver out of it. So I have the 2007 software and a slightly bigger but non-refurb receiver (same model GPS-500, but about twice the size).
Thing I like best, the 2006 version has a full USB-to-GPS cable, the 2007 had a short little USB dongle to adapt to the receiver and then a USB extension cord.

Hmm too bad they dont have any here in QC, i would have bought it for my GPS BT dock

If anyone is interested .... i m selling the BT dock... i bought it by mistake for my MS S&T 2006 which has a bigger puck...

Its still in its original packaging... never used of course.

Brand NEW and never used PHAROS Bluetooth GPS DOCK designed for both MS Street and Trips 2007 and Autoroute 2007 GPS Unit.
I bought it thinking it will fit in my iGPS-500 (below) from MS Street and Trips 2006 but it turned out that mine is bigger!

I paid $60 ... I'm asking $45 OBO or trade with a BT dock which is compatible with my GPS-500 from S&T 2006.

Did you pick up a replacement? I don't know about new stock, but they had a few of them behind the counter near the cash when I went.. the box I had "looked" beat up, but the MS stickers on both the top and bottom were fully intact (I know that could mean nothing since it's a refurb, but I guess I lucked out anyways)..

Hope you got a good one in exchange!

On my laptop, I used a program called IGuidance (used with the older Streets and Trips GPS) it had TTS.

managed to pick one up last evening! This gps receiver is supposedly pretty good with picking up a signal and accuracy I believe. Can anyone comment on the ability to pick up a signal indoors? I can't seem to pick up a signal at work, and at home. Just want to make sure that everything is working as it is supposed to before the 10 days exchange at factory direct expires.

Attach it to a window. It needs to see the satellite signal (I believe). I picked up 9 satellites from my front window.

Also -> Microsoft S&T 2009 has a free 60 day trial download.
