Hi all,

I'm planning a trip (2-3 days) to the east, mainly focusing on Montreal while touching Ottawa on the way back. Right now, the date is tentatively set for the long weekend in Oct.

I would appreciate if you could help me out on the following areas:

What are the main attractions/places to visit that you would recommend?
What is the best route to get there, by best I mean the most scenic one. Will it be congested during the long weekend?
Can you suggest me a decent and affordable hotel/motel (for 4 people, 1 room) in Montreal?
Also my friend suggested that Quebec City was a lovely place and worth the extra distance .. Agree/Disagree?

If you more suggestions, please do suggest! :) Thanks.

A reminder that the search function is great here at RFD.
We recently discussed Ottawa with the OP of this thread

Also, not to disrespect you but, some of your questions are a bit, well odd? Do you have a grasp of geography of Ontario? I mean, Toronto is just 4 hours from Ottawa and Montreal is an additional hour and a half. If it is Montreal you want to see then Ottawa is out of the way.
Pick up a book or at least get a google map

We should just have respective stickies for montreal, toronto, ottawa and vancouver.

A sub section for detailed threads about a certain city or country.

As for the decent/affordable hotel I'd say this one in Downtown is pretty cool. Ask for room 301, or the other one with a balcony. Parking is like $5 a night.

If you dont take 401 to montreal is going to take forever, and if you dont take 417 from montreal to ottawa its going to take forever. However take highway 7 from Ottawa to Toronto, but watch your speed if its a long weekend. Its a pretty scenic drive.

Thank you for the sarcastic reply. I know Ottawa is out of the way but when I'm so close I dont mind driving an extra hour and half just to visit the place (however short it is).
