Anyone care to share their experiences with 7x24 shift work in the IT Support industry?
Pros/cons? Do you have to work on statutory holidays?
What do you think about a new grad taking on such a role to get their "foot in the door", so the speak?

A few years ago I took a job working an evening shift doing technical support, 3 months after starting I was transferred to a better position in a different department. Worked out ok for me.

Pretty much exactly what I did after graduation. Took a 7x24 position to get my foot in the door. After a year or so of experience (based on company policies) you can start looking around internally.
It's pretty stressful on the work/life balance and definitely does a number on your body and personal life by working night shifts. It's a life-style to get used too, but is one of the easiest ways to get some real experience and fast-track as a recent grad.
I'd definitely go back and do it again since the benefits highly out-weighed the costs. (and yes, you have to work stat holidays but get overtime/stat pay)

On shift work, you get used to it, the days/weekends simply blend together, you forget its a Saturday, lol, downside is you are off during the week alot, a good time to get errands done, but a bad time to socialize.
