View Full Version : Random Contradictory Thing about Yourself?

I listen to communist parade / propaganda songs while working if I'm doing menial work, despite being a hardcore laissez-faire capitalist.

There's something ironically amusing about it..

Soooo.. being bored at work. What's a random contradictory thing about yourself?

I'm extremely proud to be Chinese. I'll throw down to defend my race. but I'm nothing like a typical chinese person. I don't think like a traditional chinese person does, or do stereotypical Chinese things.

Here's a random quote from an email thread that I just had a few days ago which kinda sums it up:

you’re the only un-asian guy I know who doesn’t liked to be group with the ‘whites’

Haha I'm white and I've jokingly heard some of my Chinese friends throw around 'whitewashed' when making fun of other friends. I don't completely get it as most of my friends are pretty westernized/"Canadianized" if you will

Can you give examples of "not thinking like a traditional Chinese person", and what stereotypical activities do you abstain from?

Higher education is the single most important thing in life. You must only date Asian girls with identical ideologies. They cannot be showy. She has to be family oriented and able to take care of a family. Drugs and alcohol are the devil. All other races are trash. Mainland Chinese are trash. Hong Kong/Macau Chinese are snobbish, which makes them trash. Everything is expensive.

Wow. I'm speechless.
He has a point.

The number of Chinese people who rock-climb is probably similar to the number of white people who play mahjong.

I've played mahjong with white folks before though, so I'm sure they exist. Or have existed.

and you don't date chinese girls apparently.

well, it's not a hard and fast rule, but that seems to be the trend (I'll date a chinese girl with blue contacts and blond hair ). I just find I have trouble with their parents. They have this expectation for me to be typical chinese. If I were any other race, they'd probably be fine with me. With other asian parents, it's always ok since I meet all other asian requirements, and they don't expect me to be able to converse in their language (except Koreans. they're hardcore about dating only Koreans). And with white, black, and hispanic parents, they have even less expectations, so it's all good.

You're Chinese?
By your rock climbing avatar I assumed you were white.

Not only that, but I made it pretty high up on the hard side too. :D
but then again, i don't actually go rock climbing....so you might be right about chinese people not rockclimbing...

if you talked to my friends, they'd tell you how much I hate on white people (jokingly of course). when white people do crazy white things, I'll call them out on it. like when you guys come out of the club, you have this need to scream really loud for no reason....what's up with that?

I don't know. speaking chinese with other chinese people, talking really loud, karaoke, bubble tea (I didn't know what bbt was until I went to waterloo), quiet, reserved, playing computer games, crazy hair, dying my hair, peace signs in pictures, play mahjong, watch chinese series', etc, etc.....

typical chinese things I do: pour tea, give way to elders, cook chinese food, eat rice, used to own an accord, went to waterloo, look for deals, go on RFD, etc. etc.

The price of not going to the RFDBBQ

the price being that they don't know what race I am?

That's cause you only date chinese girls!!! you just proved my point. when I date chinese girls, I avoid the parents too. that goes with chinese friends as well.

And yea, I meet alot of people's parents. friends and g/f's. I tend to make a good impression with parents.

Dash's Rules of thumb when meeting asian parents but aren't a typical chinese guy:

If you meet chinese parents, say you're another race. If you meet Korean parents, tell them you're chinese, but that you're just friend's with their daughter. Any other asian parents, tell them you're chinese and that you went to Waterloo for University. for all asian parents, say hi when you meet them, say bye when you leave, and always pour the tea for them when eating. Follow these easy steps, and you too can get along with an asian parent.

I work at a broadcast design studio so it's a very flexible place but I still had trouble making it in for 10am - and I use to live a 25 minute walk away. I guess I didn't get ragged on because I'd stay late to finish things or get that extra thing done - I pulled a few 24 and 48 hour straight shifts so I guess I earned the extra flexibility.

I've been freelancing for the year while I'm away from home, working my own hours. I'll have to make a real effort when I get back to try and get in early.

By the way, I know that that isn't "early" - I know people who have to get up what truly is early to be at work for 7:30/8am. I know I'm lucky - not complaining one bit.

I said asians

I've dated filipino girls before, but I never ate with their parents. I've only met one of their parents, and that was in highschool. At the time she wasn't even allowed to date, and the only reason I met them was cause her mom came home early from work one day and there wasn't a window close by. oh man, those were the days.

so... to clarify things: just because Filipinos dont use chop stick, they are not Asians? or is that too much of a stereotype of being Asian? asian must use chop stick...

The wannabe gangster types don't seem to be.

and you dont see other race/ethnic background trying/wannabe gangsta?
or ASIANS trying to be gangsters? or is it more appropriate to call them "TRIADS"? (was originally "MAFIAS", but dash clarified it for me)
