if you did not get through yet try this.
1. Lanuch GMXT
2. When asked "Did this purchase of Garmin Mobile PC include a Garmin GPS Receiver?" click "Yes".
3. When asked to Connect or power on your Garmin GPS receiver, click "Done".
4. Click "Skip" while scanning for GPS receiver and confirm "Yes" on "Are you sure..." message box.
5. Go to Settings -> About and make a note of your "Device ID".
I heard Garmin doesn't support TTS on C520. Is that right?
I got a package only has basic map. How do I need to install the map. I have a link has img and map source. I am confusing on this.

I think the price will be $169 in next few weeks. it's still a good deal.

No, no TTS.
You need GMPC (need to be unlocked as well) - a software for install the new map.
From whatever point of view you really don't need Garmin - I am go ing to delete it from my Mio. iGO and MN are good enough for me.

When u copy the correct files from mio pocket to your SD card, insert your SD card while your GPS is on. This will cause miopocket to boot.
If you want miopocket and iGO someone posted their SD card here
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O48S5LU7
Just unzip it and copy everything to your SD card.

Are you sure? It worked for me. You should have MioAutoRun and such in your sd cards root directory.
Turn on you Mio and let it boot up.
Remove your SD card.
Re-Insert your SD card.
Miopocket should boot up.
The only other thing I can think of is that your SD card is not compatible with the Mio?

After installing the MioPocket(R32) + iGo 8.3.2.64873 package, it first worked great and after playing for a while, I found it start to have freezing problem, Twice on iGo:
one was when restart from standby mode, the other was when surfing around iGo.
Once on MioPocket when playing aroung all the features.
I did change the sys.txt as metioned in previous post to add the following lines:
[power]
skip_resume_process=1
skip_suspend_process=1
[debug]
cache=4096
Anyone has experencing the same problem, any solution about that?
The Nav N Go 2008 Q2 ap is much better than the MioMap comes with the unit (Mio C520), more routes of course and more accurate.
It seems to be a MioPocket application issue.
Any suggestion how can I resolve the freezing issue?

I am running latest iGo and maps w/o installing any extra software. Simply removed the stuff from \my flash ...\miomap\miomap folder, copy the content from iGo8 folder into it, rename iGo8.exe to miomap.exe and copy over the .id checksum for the new miomap.exe(iGo8.exe) in the folder. Now it runs instead of MioMap.
I am finding it to be much better that the map data actually has my street, MioMap map didn't. The whole package is about 60 MB w/o map/poi/building etc data. If anybody is interested, let me know.

I prefer igo, but recommend keeping miomap on your gps, but you should download newer maps for it. On my way to myrtle beach, igo had problems on the smaller roads (74 i believe), while miomap was great.

Steps are very straight forward and rolling back is as simple as replacing folder content.
1. Connect the GPS to computer.
2. Make a backup of MioMap folder from GPS flash.
3. Delete the MioMap folder from GPS flash.
4. Extract and copy the new MioMap folder (iGo8) from Megaupload link.
5. Download appropriate map/building/dem/poi data and put it in their respective folder under content folder.
If you want to go back, simply replace the new iGo8 MioMap folder w/ the actual MioMap folder backup you made.

Jan 2nd, 2009, 12:19 PM
Thanks, what's that id checksum file?
Its Mio's way of preventing people from running unauthorized files. Some sort of checksum the shell generates on the miomap.exe, then compares it to what is inside the miomap.exe.id file. If they don't match, doesn't execute the .exe
Basically, if you don't generate new checksum file, Mio's main menu will refuse to run the program.

I see, it actually means you don't need SD card at all for it. It doesn't have any fancy applications, just the iGo map with it, right?

Thanks a lot!
this is actually a very nice method for people who don't want all those fancy WINCE features and just need a simple GPS unit with a preferable map solution (I assume this method could be used for other map application like MN7, Tomtom and Garmin as well).
Especially C520 already has the Video and Audio playing ability provided.

yup i created a root usa_and_canada folder and put the DCT file in there.
kind of wierd and annoying. Maybe someone can make the file for me. my device ID is AB3AN9JE9N ......
Did anyone have any issues installing tomtom on their mio
i tried (using the instructions earlier in the thread), and the software loaded, but when i try use the USA and Canada maps (it shows it twice in the tomtom software) it gives me this "activation failed sorry, this is not the correct activation code for the product 'USA_and_Canada'."
I copied the DCT file to the map folder, so not sure why its not working. any ideas?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
### Run Keygen ###
'USA_and_Canada-22.meta' - OK
^^^^^^^^Keygen Output here!^^^^^^^^^^
Keygen says OK , copy now the new *.dct into your Mapfolder
Used DeviceID = AB3AN9JE9N
Press any key to continue . . .
I have installed TomTom(7.910.9185 for WINCE 5.0) and copy USA_and_Canada_v815.2022 to the root of SD card. But I can't find my DeviceID for cracking the map. when I run TomTom, it prompted "activation failed.... sorry, this is not the correct activation code for the roduct 'USA_and_Canada'". then the application quits.
It took me a while to figure it out, but this helped me a lot:
Now copy tomtom folder over to your sd card. Reboot gps to load miopocket. Start tomtom on gps. It will say no maps. Close gps remove sd card and hook it back up to your pc. IN the tomtom folder on the sdcard there should be a ttnavigator.bif file. open with notepad. There will be a deviceunitid = (10 letters). Write this down somewhere...
Now copy over the maps to the root of sd card. example /sdcard/USA_and_Canada. Almost done now. Now extract the keygen folder and you will end up with a folder called ''Easyusetools_for Keygen_Mapcheck_Metacheck_ttsystempatcher'' .The meta code you got goes in ''Easyusetools_for Keygen_Mapcheck_Metacheck_ttsystempatcher/progs/meta.txt'' scoll down and find MAPAS 815.XXXX in the meta.txt file and add you code at the end.. Now there is a folder called ''insert_meta_from_Map_here'' which you have to add 2 files from the map folder USA_and_Canada-22.meta and USA_and_Canada.pna. Ok run RunMeforDCT.cmd. Option 2 , then option 1, enter you divice id which you had writen down earlier.. It will create a file called USA_and_Canada-22.meta.dct, place it back in the map folder /sdcard/USA_and_Canada/. Then you are done.
Once you restart Tomtom on gps. you will be asked what type of gps. Chose 'Other NMEA Device" and put baud rate to 57600, some say 4800. BUt 57600 is what worked for me... Took alittle while to gps for the first time, but after that it picks it up great...thats it you have everything working after this...
Anyways sorry if there are bunch of grammer mistakes and typos. I typed this out real quick... Hope this helps... and GL...
Not sure if you downloaded the keygen yet, but the above said to hit option 2 and then option 1. But that did not work for me, option 1 and then 1 again worked. It will create a DCT file which you copy to the maps folder that you created on your SD card. Here is a link to the keygen and other files: http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1749 Hope that helps!
Ok, beware leaving the unit in the car (even in the glovebox) during the summer, or when travelling in hotter climates. I left mine in the glovebox overnight in Florida and the next day it was totally non responsive. Not sure what the cold does to it. After 24-48 hours it was working but kept respondong to phantom touches. By day 3 it seems to be happy again, but a clear warning on not to expect too much from the hardware.
Also this thread has been inundated with stories and requests on how to add every GPS prpgram to the unit. But, what's the point? I'd much rather add programs that make it more functional. The included mp3 player is a joke and should be replaced. And while different GPS programs like Garmin will improve routing, it doesn't integrate as nicely with Bluetooth and audiobooks.
I have tried 4 programs, Miomaps, Igo 8.3.2, garmin and tomtom.
Overall i find Igo 8.3.2 the best because it works the best and has a nice interface, and has TTS. I use the Navteq 2008 Q2 maps with the teleatlas POI, so that works nicely. Its main disadvantage is that its difficult to get bluetooth working as it does in miomaps.
The second best would be miomaps, because its interface is all right, TTS, there are a lot of POI (with the updated premium maps), and most importantly bluetooth calling works. Though I find that the teleatlas maps are inaccurate in some places.
Garmin and Tomtom and tied, I find the tomtom interface nicer and easier to use than the garmin interface, but the tomtom maps have some errors on them (at least i can correct them though, which other programs can't do). Both of these programs lag quite a bit though compared to the others. It updates every second or so and the recalculation can be quite slow compared to Igo. The route's that tomtom and garmin make, are a bit better than igo and miomaps.
Overall they all work, and its nice to have all these programs on there. Each program has its use. So overall I am quite happy with the unit for the price i got it at.
By the way, thanks for all your help! Providing links to files, and instructions on how to use them!
I managed to find an openbox at FS. I'll probably return the Garmin Nuvi 760 I picked up at Costco.
One question though... I installed iGo 8.3.2. Can you set an intersection as a destination? I can see the option is greyed out when you find an address. This is option on the Garmin that I like when I don't know the exact address.
The SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL files could be created in any text editor. I use Notepad. Get your unlocking codes and paste it into Notepad and save it accordingly to the name of those two files. Then copy those two files into the Garmin folder on your SD card.
PS is anyone getting poor battery life from their Mio?
OK thanks, I was playing with the routing and the battery went from full to almost half gone in about 20-30 mins and it had me a bit worried.
Does anyone have links to add US or North American maps? I just tried the links in my previous post and the download links seem to be down.
Sears does price matching (matching to the exact price though). They need the flyer to show the competing price though, so maybe try printing out the ad.
As for the part that says "out of stock", maybe just.. edit the HTML out.
Question for those that unlocked the Garmin XT Mobile which I'm having a problem with:
When I boot up XT from Miopocket I get this annoying page coming up that says either Purchase & Go
Begin Free Trial
Enter Product Key
Connect to a Garmin GPS
I enter into Connect to a Garmin GPS, and then I come to a page where I'm asked to connect to your GPS receiver and the endless scanning process begins which i skip. I then come to window that asks if I want to connect to other gps devices which I say yes to and go straight to my map. But I also get an annoying green bar at the top of map display which says gps is off.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Why aren't you guys downloading stuff from the links on gpsunderground using cryptload? When using cryptload (its a separate program) you don't deal with all the download limits and multiple files from rapidshare/megaupload/etc. I've read a few people complain about hitting download limits, etc....thats what cryptload is for, its right there on the instructions to use it!
Unraring those files should make one structure - you shouldnt have a "part1, part 2" etc folder created - the parts are from one single set.
Second, the folder that is created, miosdcard, doesnt get copied to the card, just the contents do. You should have F:\igo8, F:\mioautorun, etc.
Fix your mistakes and it'll work fine.
Think of each file as one piece of a puzzle, and you need all of the pieces. When you unrar one of the files, WinRAR knows that it needs the other pieces, and will put the puzzle together for you.
Remember, these mods however may mean that the puzzle itself is yet one piece of an even bigger puzzle.
Sounds like if you go away from MioMap v3.3 (iGo 2006) you lose the Bluetooth phone functionality, can someone confirm that ? While I would love to give iGo 2008 (8.3.x.x) a try, I would rather have MioMap 3.3 with a working BT phone
Also, can anyone confirm that the latest map for MioMap 3.3 (iGo 2006):
- Canada is 2007.07
- US is 2007.10
Managed to get both IGo 8.3x and Miopocket on the internal memory, thanks guys for the direction on this thread.
Question, I am looking for a Miopocket skin or whatever that has the same BIG buttons(icons) like the original Mio. The Miopocket skins, the icons, writing etc is just too small, this is for my wife so I want to keep it simple.
Are there any skins for Miopocket that has simple large buttons? or any other ideas?
If you don't quit MioShell, your BT function will remain intact. Use alternate methods of launching your alternate map applications rather than MioPocket and your BT will continue to work.
One is to replace MioMap with alternate software, or use MortScript to launch more than one, including MioMap. My BT works just fine with iGO 8.3.2.xxxx
Any one wants a new C520 for local pick up in GTA (downtown during working hours and Markham during after hours)? I bought one from the Boxing Day sale but decided not to keep it. PM me if you are interested.
You can have it for the cost that I paid:
$139.99 + $5.99 (shipping) + $18.98 (tax) = $164.96.
If nobody wants it by the end of week, I'll return it to Futureshop.
P.S. I did take the unit out, charged to make sure it works. The reason that I don't want it is that I already have a C710 that works well (the C520 seems to pick up signals faster than the C710 though). Well, bought the C520 simply because it's on sale! :lol:
Edit: sold.
So you're talking about replacing the current MioMap folder (rename it to something else), put Igo 2008 as \MioMap with the main executable renamed to "miomap.exe" ? Is that the gist ?
How to retain bluetooth pairings...After pairing, use one of the registry editors in MioPocket and export all the keys under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth. Save as bluetooth.reg, and put this reg file uder MioAutoRun/Registry/Custom on your SD memory card. This registry settings will then be automatically imported on startup restoring settings after hard reboots.
In iGo8, you need to use an alternate skin such as diMka to access bluetooth. Obtain and save the diMka_DTE_831_v1.5.31-480_272.zip under iGO8\Content\Skin. No need to unzip the file. You also need the v1.5 audio files, which are then saved under iGO8\Audio (these files will include voice_sound_delays.ini, and a voice_female and voice_mail subdirectories). With the DiMka skin, you need to enable the BT button under the "Quick Menu" button. Once enabled, press and hold the BT button that appears on the map to enter the BT configuration screen. For BlueTooth Click Action, choose "Other", and set Custom Click Action to "/windows/miobtm.exe", and set parameters to "-phoneui". Leave the BlueTooth Long Click Action set to "This screen" so that you can change this setting in the future by pressing and holding vs clicking the BT button. I also saved the BTOnOff.exe file mentioned for this particular skin in the root of iGO8, but not sure if this file is actually needed/used by the skin.
All this info was found on the gpspassion forum already mentioned in this post. You just have to search that forum for the posts to find the relevant things you want to specifically do.
I'd also love to find a way to control phone while in Igo8. And is mp3 integration possible? I even tried miomaps while playing an audiobook in mioaudio, but the nav instructions were played over the book rather than pausing. Without the ability to do these things the player is just a midling GPS device, but can't compare with the slightly more expensive Garmins that perfectly integrate mp3, BT functions within Navigation.
I got bluetooth working in iGo 8.3.2 (without using any skins). It allows me to receive calls quite easily, and making calls with my cheapo v3 razr also works quite nicely. I just use the button on the side on my phone that allows me to say a name and it dials it. (I think it uses the GPS mic)
I just find it annoying after a call the taskbar will be hidden, but if i click in that area at the bottom of the screen it brings up the taskbar again. Does anyone know how to fix that?
While playing with the bluetooth I discovered that I can actually use the Mio as a wireless speaker, and mic. Basically my laptop has bluetooth which allows me to send the sound to the "bluetooth hands free audio" Now I just have to find a 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter so I can hook my mio up to my stereo, that way I do not have to run a cable to it or anything. The more I play with the thing the more i like it :)
Thanks for the info,
1- Anyway to make a BT call from the POI menu? In MioMap, there used to be a "call" button.
2- Enabling any of the buttons in the QuickMenu causes the taskbar to show up again when back in iGO. Can't hide the taskbar because can't go back to iGO anymore! Anyway to get around it?
[edit]I found the solution to #2, basically, since TaskBar is in AutoHide, as long as you can get it to Hide again (i.e, I'd click on StartMenu->Run->OK and it autohides back) it won't bother iGo again, unless you unhide it by click on the vary bottom of the page.
So, Q #1 still stands for figuring out!
I think you meant with all the GPS apps?
You can't do that with Garmin and TomTom as I believe the installation is linked to your SD card which has a unique ID.
Destinator would work though, but will all the maps in each install the files would be massive....
How to retain bluetooth pairings...After pairing, use one of the registry editors in MioPocket and export all the keys under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth. Save as bluetooth.reg, and put this reg file uder MioAutoRun/Registry/Custom on your SD memory card. This registry settings will then be automatically imported on startup restoring settings after hard reboots.
In iGo8, you need to use an alternate skin such as diMka to access bluetooth. Obtain and save the diMka_DTE_831_v1.5.31-480_272.zip under iGO8\Content\Skin. No need to unzip the file. You also need the v1.5 audio files, which are then saved under iGO8\Audio (these files will include voice_sound_delays.ini, and a voice_female and voice_mail subdirectories). With the DiMka skin, you need to enable the BT button under the "Quick Menu" button. Once enabled, press and hold the BT button that appears on the map to enter the BT configuration screen. For BlueTooth Click Action, choose "Other", and set Custom Click Action to "/windows/miobtm.exe", and set parameters to "-phoneui". Leave the BlueTooth Long Click Action set to "This screen" so that you can change this setting in the future by pressing and holding vs clicking the BT button. I also saved the BTOnOff.exe file mentioned for this particular skin in the root of iGO8, but not sure if this file is actually needed/used by the skin.
All this info was found on the gpspassion forum already mentioned in this post. You just have to search that forum for the posts to find the relevant things you want to specifically do.
Where is this "v1.5 audio files, which are then saved under iGO8\Audio"? I couldn't find it on diMka website, are you talking about the "Speed Camera Voice Files" instead?
Thanks to this thread - I just got one ordered and am looking forward to it. Having a combo GPS and movie player for Jr. is very exciting!
Thanks for all the support here :). (even if someone does move this to another forum, but this does seem to be a deal thanks to it's multifuntional capability). Also super cheap - I just got mine for $150 at FS.
Fro which FS store you got it?
Available online only. A friend knew I was looking for it and let me know as soon as he saw there were 2 available. By the time I got my order half done, one was gone. My order too the last one.
Perhaps these were returns... who knows why they would only get 2 in... Or maybe they found them in the warehouse.
Here it is...
MioPocket R32 (SD Card Installation)
iGo 8.3.2.64873
TTS (dave, kate, susan, simon)
Canada Map & POI (Navteq 2008 Q2)
total 500MB zipped... unzip, copy all to SDHC, plug in the card, hard boot (press and hold power button for 6-12 sec to turn it off, then press again) & softboot (after mio loads, press power button again to turn it off, and press again to turn it on). You will see MioPocket runs and installs first time. have fun...
don't close it while iGo is running, first exit to MioMocket then close the GPS (one push button), ow it freezes, you need to hard boot...
* I think if you add these lines (between two -------) to ~\iGo\sys.txt, the freezing problem (if you stand by the device when iGo runs, and then wake it up, it freezes) is solved...
I think you meant with all the GPS apps?
You can't do that with Garmin and TomTom as I believe the installation is linked to your SD card which has a unique ID.
Destinator would work though, but will all the maps in each install the files would be massive....
I understand that. But as I said from the original post it will require a little tweaking for such cases like the Garmin and TomTom where you will need to crack it or whatever. At least all the software is already there and the files are in the proper places.
You need to put the meta files and the PNA file in the insert_meta_..... folder. Then you run the keygen (remember option 1 and then option 1 again), then in that folder you put the meta and PNA files, you will find the DCT file. You copy that DCT file into your map (canada_and_usa folder).
Hope that helps
As far as i know its a PNA file (i know it starts with a p at least), you find that file in the map folder that you downloaded, like the canada usa one.
Hear hear,
Some of us that got it mid November only got a few sentences from the OP and some forum links. We had to scour around the GPS forums to search for individual files, tts, POI, maps. Now the OP has edited with an essay on the device and relevant links. Another poster has provided a long detailed summary of How To for Garmin and another uploaded IGO.
Some people are slackers that can't be bothered to do some reading and basic research. None of these are rocket science to install. It just takes some time and patience.
Get off the couch and do some damn reading . . . .
BTW, what registry editor are you using any link for downloading? And how do you export the keys?
Thanks
I haven't figured out where that BT icon is saved...it annoys me too.
Use either of the two registry editors in MioPocket found under Tools. Using PHM Regedit, navigate to the specific registry key and then select "export registry file" under the registry menubar.
And Thanks for Star*, the bluetooth works fine now (but a little slow when invoke the miobtm.exe)
Now I have played the new super skin for a while and have to say I love it.
However, there are 2 issues:
1) Isn't there a reference book for all the meaning of icons for this fantastic skin, I can seems to figure out a lot of them.
2) Why I have the nice car image activated on the map but the old ugly ARROW is still there. Also, can we make the car smaller?
Have to say iGo is great stuff, MIO GPS is a very great toy.
I don't see the "X" mark on the BT icon, however the icon is overlapping with another icon (on top of it), I don't know what is the meaning of the other icon, it is a picture of 2-lane road, touch it then it turns to Red/Green.
I'm assuming you're using the dimka DTE skin.
The BT icons are in the ui_igo8/common directory in the skin file. The skin doesn't choose the right one for some reason even when BT is active, although all the proper icons are there. Hopefully it gets fixed in an update.
The 2-lane road icon is the toll road select. You can allow routing to either use or not use toll roads. The option to remove the switch doesn't seem to work. But, you can move the icon to the bottom left in the quick menu. Hopefully this gets fixed too.
Yep, I am using the diMka DTE, and moving the toll road icon to the bottom left works for me. Now the BT icon is clearly located right beside the compass icon.
Couldn't be happier.
One more question, anyone knows that if the diMka DTE skin has the similar feature like in the Megaduck99/Specter versions - "Clicking the turn icon will repeat the last command", if it does have it, how to activate it?
Second,
Its been asked in this thread before, but search as a might, i can not find an answer. Has anyone been able to get European maps working on a C520 bought in Canada?
I've tried several versions of Igo and miomap with no luck.
I have the latest igo 8.3.2 with North American maps working fine on my c520 but would like to add the UK maps and pois for the occasional family visit.
Yes the C520 with IgO 8 does it. If you download the various poi customized icons for IgO 8 in a branding.zip and depending on type of map, personally I have 8.3.2... and I overwrote the current branding.zip. They look nice on the screen rather than the blanket standard icons.
That's what it does when I click on the turn icon. What does it do for you? Personally, I'd prefer a route itinerary.
I'd also like to see a setting that assumes you've reached a via or destination when you're within a certain distance. I find the address location to be slightly off sometimes, and I have to manually clear the via so I can route to the next point.
I am also using the iGo 8.3.1 version with a clock and MP3 player.
With limited testing, I found it much more stable on the C520 than 8.3.2
8.3.2 used to regularly lock up even if I only went to suspend after closing iGo first. With 8.3.1 everything seems to work. I also found that going with the SimpleUnlock was much better. MioPocket was fun to play with and quite amazing but I found SimpleUnlock was better to keep a fun GPS in my car. If I wanted something amazing I would use my PC.
The only thing I don't know about 8.3.1 is whether it is compatible with all those skins and tweaks for 8.3.2. If I downloaded a branding.zip to enable seeing company logos like Chevron or McDonalds, would the 8.3.2 compatible version work with my 8.3.1. There aren't too many things written for 8.3.1 specifically.
All you need to do is rename MIOMAP folder, copy this stuff over and have it run anything you like w/o installing anything extra. Just add your stuff to miomap.mscr MortScript file:
Choice("","", "iGO8", "Navigon", "Media Player", "Explorer")
case 1
Run("\My Flash Disk\iGO8\iGO8.exe")
I manually fixed mine.
It seems that the order of the icons in "ui_igo8\common\ico_bt_status.bmp" are incorrect. I used iPAQ31x Image Explorer (found on DiMka's site) to open the bitmap file, and re-save it as an aRGB bitmap file. I then used Windows Paint on my WinXP desktop to open the aRGB bitmap and swapped the 1st and 3rd icons around. I then used iPAQ31x to convert the new aRGB bitmap back to iPAQ/iGO bitmap format. Updated the file inside the skin zip, and restarted the app. Repeat for the "night" version of the bitmap.
I uploaded the revised bitmap file to manually update your skin...
Looks like the Futureshop in Markham (Warden & Hwy 7) has stock.
Might be a return. Ajax had one in stock. I phoned they said it was new but when I went to get it it was a return/open box. Still bought it 10% off. Let's see how it goes.
That's what it does when I click on the turn icon. What does it do for you? Personally, I'd prefer a route itinerary.
I'd also like to see a setting that assumes you've reached a via or destination when you're within a certain distance. I find the address location to be slightly off sometimes, and I have to manually clear the via so I can route to the next point.
Figured it out, when there is 2 turn sign on the top-left coner, touch the first one, you will get the last the TTS voice, touch the second one, you will get a route itinerary.
However, not sure what is the purpose of the turn icon in quick menu.
What I mean is in quick menu, when turn it on or off, what kind of effect it will have in term or navigation or something else.
However, your answer is something I'd like to know as well. Thanks!!!
Sorry, but I still don't get it, all my iGo packages don't have a folder \iGO8\audio, all it has is \iGO8\content\voice
Could you let me know where I can find those files in this \iGO8\audio, currently I am not able to load the skin due to an error says: "cannot find iGO8\Audio\voice_sound_delays.ini"
Thanks
I haven't loaded any new programs on mine yet as I haven't had the time to read through this thread from start to finish, it really is getting huge! If there is a guide to adding the programs someone found helpful please PM me with it.
Anyway using miomap when I plan a route it is telling me to take walkways between roads???? I have car selected, not pedestrian, any ideas what other setting I can change? I can manually tell it not to take each walkway or just put my truck in 4wd and go for it! I'll just tell the cops my GPS made me do it :D
Also when I scroll around with my finger it keeps putting in a red dot which is driving me nuts, anyway to stop this? Thanks
Here's an alternate launching system for anybody who is interested:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E9MU0D8Y
All you need to do is rename MIOMAP folder, copy this stuff over and have it run anything you like w/o installing anything extra. Just add your stuff to miomap.mscr MortScript file:
SetChoiceEntryFormat(24, 18, "Verdana")
Choice("","", "iGO8", "Navigon", "Media Player", "Explorer")
case 1
Run("\My Flash Disk\iGO8\iGO8.exe")
case 2
Run("\Storage Card\Navigon\navigon.exe")
case 3
Run("\Storage Card\Media Player\playerce5.exe")
case 4
Run("explorer.exe")
case 0
Exit
EndChoice
Thanks muchly, using this script and the "MioMap" style Igo 8.3 that you provided, I even have my old C220 running both MioMap 3.3 and iGo 8.3 using this menu program. Instead of running the whole thing off SD card, I got both programs installed inside the Flash memory and the maps/contents on the SD card. Best part is that this SD card is sharable between the C220 and the C520 as my C520 is set up the same way. But since the C520 has a lot more Flash, I decided to keep their respective Canadian maps on the device itself meaning I wouldn't need the SD card on the C520 unless I'm out of the country.
Now the C520 seems to be losing BT connectivity / pairing information. Without going to MioPocket to unlock the device, what is the best way to keep BT working ? I'm figuring some kind of utility instealled in \windows\startup in which it will restore the BT registries and "turn on" BT. Anyone have a good solution to this ?
Specifically, if I plug in various "standard" USB chargers - that work on my Blackberry, Nokia phone, Bluetooth handsfree setm etc - the Mio seems to jump into the mode where it is trying to connect to a PC. MioMap quits instantly, and no navigation occurs. However, it works properly - i.e. does NOT jump into this connection mode - when connected to the Mio cigarette charger, for instance.
I am running Igo 8.3.2.64873 and I'm trying to find both of these:
Navteq 2008 Q2 maps with the teleatlas POI
But I'm having no luck, can someone point me in the right direction.
Thx
I have tried 4 programs, Miomaps, Igo 8.3.2, garmin and tomtom.
Overall i find Igo 8.3.2 the best because it works the best and has a nice interface, and has TTS. I use the Navteq 2008 Q2 maps with the teleatlas POI, so that works nicely. Its main disadvantage is that its difficult to get bluetooth working as it does in miomaps.
The second best would be miomaps, because its interface is all right, TTS, there are a lot of POI (with the updated premium maps), and most importantly bluetooth calling works. Though I find that the teleatlas maps are inaccurate in some places.
Garmin and Tomtom and tied, I find the tomtom interface nicer and easier to use than the garmin interface, but the tomtom maps have some errors on them (at least i can correct them though, which other programs can't do). Both of these programs lag quite a bit though compared to the others. It updates every second or so and the recalculation can be quite slow compared to Igo. The route's that tomtom and garmin make, are a bit better than igo and miomaps.
Overall they all work, and its nice to have all these programs on there. Each program has its use. So overall I am quite happy with the unit for the price i got it at.
By the way, thanks for all your help! Providing links to files, and instructions on how to use them!
Any usb charger that only puts out 500 ma will make the unit think that it is attached to a computer... any adapter that puts out 1000 ma will let it know that it is a charger. Hope this helps.
Actually the cable is different, it is not a question of how much current your charger is able to source. Pin 4 (i think) is connected to ground on the mini USB end through a 17K resistor. Mio and Garmin do that. This is why the box detects a computer connection instead of a power source.
You can use a Garmin cable 12V adapter if you cannot find a Mio one.
Brand new unit has a safety warning about not using the unit while driving etc. that scrolls down the screen then asks for your language preference, then searches for satellite.
There should be no locations in the "history" or "home" settings. There is also a little Mio sticker seal on the flap.
Well the Garmin has lifetime traffic, and everything works out of the box, and the hardware will last you for years. The Mio requires a ton of tampering, and even then the BT and other features don't work in other nav programs. The only advantage the MIO has besides a cheap price is the media player.
I bought a SDW-820 (b only) from ebay and it connects with WEP or no-encyrption with my router, but WPA2-PSK (eventhough the drivers support it) gets rejected by my router. I haven't tried a different router yet, but none-the-less, it gave me a taste of what wireless internet on this unit is like.
And here are my thoughts:
- b vs. b/g: don't bother, stick to 'b' unless you want to shell-out more money.
The bottle neck on the unit will not be the over-the-air transfer speed (11 Mb/s is plenty), but the CPU/RAM/Graphics re-draw speed, and last, but not least, the browser used will be the bottleneck.
- I used Opera and it is sluggish for sure. I wouldn't call it usable, but sufficient if you are stranded somewhere and want to get on the net
- did I say sluggish! Yes it is - graphics redraws are horrendous on this unit, even normal file explorer has problems.
I tried MIOPocket R32 as well as The SimpleWireless unlock only by g_alin@gpspassion which uses InternetExplorer (iesample) and even though the latter was a bit faster, it is still far from usable by my standards.
I've always avoided Apple products because I don't like the associations that comes with it, but I've seen the iPOD touch browse the web and it is night and day different. (+10 for iPOD touch).
Not outdated, just not as well built. Left inside a slightly warm glovebox overnight in Orlando led to my unit refusing to work for two + days. I have a tom tom one that's lived in my car through winters & summers without a problem like that. And people switch the MIO nav because it's quite unreliable for routing compared to Garmin, tomtom, and even Magellan. There's a reason why many RFD'ers would use another nav system forgoing niceties like TTS, and integrated audio + BT.
IMO its just because RFD'ers like to get good value (IE pirated software). I've ran miomaps and felt it was very reliable within Toronto. My software of choice though is Igo8, because I like the laneassist feature. So far my unit is working ok through the winter but I hope I don't run into problems in the summer...its a real pain to have to take the gps out of the car with you! Glove compartments do get extra hot though compared to the rest of the car...
Actually every GPS software has its own problem, I used Garmin(360) and Magellen (4215) before, none of them is flawless, Garmin gave me 2 wrong directions wthin a month plus the super slow in term of finding GPS satellite signal (It took 3 minutes to find the signal around my home -Markham), and I have to keep reminding myself to bring the unit back to home in order to start it uo 5 minutes before I take off. And it can never find a signal in Downtown Toronto, however, its map is pretty good, GPS locator is accurate.
Magellen does find GPS signal very quick, usually 10 ~ 30 seconds around my place. Also it directed me to do some weird actions from time to time.
Funny thing is both Garmin and Magellen's POI suck big, 6 million POI, don't even know there is a place called "First Markham Place", not to mention the stores in that plaza.
Miomap is not so good, it is so out of date and beside it doesn't even have a lot of new roads around my area, the map is so not accurate that it told me I need to drive aother 80 meters when I was already parked my car in front of the garage.
However, IMO, the MIO unit is good, Cheap and a lot of potential, I don't use MIOMAP at all unless later one there is a new 2008/2009 map out. By far I only used the iGo and MN7, have to admit I don't see they are a lot worse then Garmin at all, actually very competitive.
I believe I know the answer to this problem. The mini USB socket on the MIO is a standard 5-pin. Typically USB is 4-pin; 2 for power, 2 for signal. The 5th pin is used for an initializing signal. For example, my Mio car charger won't charge my motorola razr phone. Similarly, (and I haven't tried this, but I think this is the problem) a motorola razr type car charger or home charger will put the mio into active sync mode and make it think it is connected to a computer.
Some details on this can be found here:
http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-A-N/razrv3_charger_pinout.shtml
So to fix your problem... stop using chargers that are not meant to be used with the mio. Use the car charger or home charger that came with it. If you are using the charger that came with it, and still have this issue then you most likely have a real problem.
Hope this helps,
Zesty :razz:
Hello,
I bought this, still debating whether to keep this. I sold my magellan 3210 GPS to buy this and I am still thinking whether I should go buy a garmin instead.
for example, the Garmin 350
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2682704&CatId=2374
I like the UI from my Magellan better, but its outdated map is a real problem for me. I don't need those fancy media player functions, I am getting this unit just because according to this thread I can hack it and get newest map easily.
How does it compared to Garmin Unit when it comes to some GPS basics like Routing algorithm, the accuracy and speed of acquiring signals and the UI? After unlocking and install different softwares, does it work as good as Garmin units?
Thanks,
rivet
Can anyone figure out how to turn off Bluetooth with the Mio C520? I turned it on the other day and tried it out with my phone and it worked well. Now evey time I turn on the Mio whether I'm in miopocket or have miomaps open, the little blue light is flashing and I can't seem to turn off bluetooth.
Also, is there a way to have bluetooth enabled, and get that annoying little blue LED to stop flashing?
Thanks,
Have you used any Garmin unit before, if yes and you liked it. Then go for Garmin since you just need a GPS. But be aware that another benefit of MIO is you might not need to spend money 2 years later when you want to upgrade the map. However, who cares about 2 years later, right? Based on today's pace of new technology development, you would probably throw the GPS out of window for something much better already.
I played with this thing all weekend. Many thanks to the OP and all those on this board that provided links and such to updates and hacks.
For what I was looking for, this was an excellent deal. $200 all-in (shipping, taxes and an 8GB SDHC card) gives me a GPS and portable media center which I have loaded with a few kids movies for my 3-year-old to watch on long trips. I actually prefer the look of the MioMaps GPS software, although the iGO seems to have more POIs and functionality. I have never used another GPS, so I don't have much of a reference, but this was fairly easy to use (didn't put the CD in to look at the manual) and hack (I downloaded MioPocket and put it on the SD card, and voila! Games, media players, applications, etc).
For the person complaining about routes - make sure you had highways selected... doesn't sound like the problem, but maybe...
For the person having trouble running iGO, make sure you put it into the right directory (not iGO 8.3 like is on the zip file but iGO8 or whatever it is as default in PocketMIO. That worked for me).
For those looking for maps, look for the torrent. The Torrent for USA has a more updated version of Canada than the updated Canada one does.
I really don't think you can do better than a GPS, Media Player and minor-arcade player for $200 all in. Great value :).
Anyone else have their Mio randomly reboot when driving using Miomaps launched from miopocket? It has happened to me about 4 times over the past few days, and it is starting to worry me. It happens just when following a route for no apparent reason.
Can anyone else with another branded hacked GPS unit confirm this issue, but IGO8 8.x runs really slow on this Mio c520 GPS. On my mod Omnitech GPS and Gonav S600 GPS, they both run much faster, though the processor is only 266Mhz, but down-clocked to 233Mhz, compared to the c520 400Mhz processor. I modified the scripts to kill SystemInformation (i.e GUI interface program) before running IGO8 also to get additional memory, hoping memory was the bottleneck, and by making more memory available, IGO8 would run faster. But this is not the case. The IGO8 program takes longer to load up and it slow to navigate between configuration screens than the other two GPS units I own. I'm running everything from a Kingston 16GB SDHC Class 4 card from FS Boxing Day deal. Below is the content of my SYS.TXT file.
Another thing you can try to narrow down the problem... Take the USB cable that came with it, and connect it to the MIO. Now put your computer (desktop or laptop) into standby mode. In standby, the USB ports are still powered, but no data will transfer. Now plug in the MIO with it turned off. The orange charge light should appear. With your computer still in standby, turn on your MIO. It should NOT go into sync mode. If it does not, then everything is good with your unit, and you probably have a faulty car or home charger. If it does go into sync mode, then I'd look into other fixes, or see if you can exchange the unit.
Hey guys, I have managed to get the TomTom, Garmen and Igo8.3.x working with the Navteq 2008Q2 Maps.
I have been trying to find a link that will let me download the teleatlas 2008.04 POI. I have found many links that include all of the content.. maps... etc. but I was wondering if anyone had a link for just the POIs as they are better and compatible with Navteq 2008Q2 on the Igo8.
Any idea on this would be great as it would be a pain to download the 13 .rar parts and unzip for only a portion of the content. It seems that many of us are running this similar setup with the Igo so I thought I would give it a shot.
Thanks
I think you'll need to get the whole thing. I didn't like the TeleAtlas POIs. They didn't seem to have subcategories like the Navteq ones. Subcategories are useful for displaying, say just Tim Hortons, instead of all restaurants. Plus, it took longer to load.
I posted this earlier in the thread
As requested earlier in the thread, I've uploaded only the iGO8 Canada POI file from the TeleAtlas 2008.4 maps, which can be used to replace the Canada POI file from the Navteq 2008.2 maps, if you prefer.
I've also included the Canada 3D buildings file which was included with the TeleAtlas 2008.4 maps. There aren't 3D buildings for every city, but I did notice that it works for Toronto. 3D CN Tower... woohoo!
Secondly, I have the simple unlock working on my 2 gb SD card.
If a mapset exists for Japan, with POI if possible, I'd like to get my hands on it. I'm going to japan pretty soon and it would be neat to use our c520 that to get around.
I finally figured out how after a call to not have the issue with the taskbar getting in the way after the call is done
Basically I just went to the taskbar settings and unchecked always on top. This way when getting a call it does not block the take call or don't take call buttons, and also after the call I can use the bottom buttons of igo 8.3.2.
I am not using a skin either. When I want to make a call I just use the voice dial thing on my phone (cheapo razr v3), which uses the mic on the GPS, or I just dial using my phone which is just as easy as dialing on the GPS if not easier. After I dial the GPS will show the calling screen with the options like volume, hang up etc.
If you just want to get in on the hack-ability action, you can pickup the Mio Moov 300C from Staples for $130 ($150 minus $20 coupon). MioPocket 2 has unlock support for the newer Moov models running Navman.
The 300C has no bluetooth, 1GB onboard storage, no TMC, no FM transmitter, no headphone jack, and about 2.5 hr battery life. Pros for the 300C is a cleaner body and Mio's new more compact mounting system.
On a side note, I picked up a USB AC charger from Zellers today for $5 so for anyone that is annoyed about having to have it connected to a PC for charging/playing around at home, consider getting one of these. Its also great for travel if you don't plan to pack a laptop.
How you guys found the battery life on your new Mio C520?
I'm a proud owner of Mio C320SX and can confirm that C520 has much shorter battery life (for sure less than 1 hour in a mute mode). I realize that the screen is bigger, but I'd expect that the device with bigger screen should have higher capacity battery. Probably I just got unlucky and it need to be replaced?
Another annoying thing is absence of the mute button on the screen. Have anybody found a solution for this?
I bought my C520 off a redflagger (who kept it for a week and used it a couple times). I managed to get all of: iGo8, Garmin, MioMap, Navigon and TomTom installed. They all work fine, but I noticed the battery life is AWFUL. The battery definitely lasts less than an hour using iGo8. Anybody else experiencing this? If it makes a difference, I have iGo8 (and its maps and POIs) installed on the device. I moved all the MioMap maps onto the SDHC 4GB card. I tried using a 2GB SD card, but the battery life is just as bad.
The forums here are a good resource: gpspassion.com and gpsunderground.com
The only tricky software to install (or rather maps) was Garmin. Once you have the Garmin software installed, you'll need a KeyGen where you enter the Card ID shown on the "About" page in Garmin. Once you have that, you'll be given an unlock code. Copy that unlock code into a file called SW.UNL and save it to the Garmin directory. Next, you need to select which Garmin mapping software (North America 2009, etc.) you will be installing in the KeyGen. You will be copying this ID into Garmin. If you don't do this correctly, the maps WILL NOT WORK. Anyway, I had Garmin software I already owned, so I didn't bother with all the KeyGen stuff.
I'm using Navigon v.7.3.2. My favourite mapping software has to be iGo8 and Garmin. Garmin's routing is a lot smarter than iGo8's, but iGo8 has a lot more features (i.e. lane assist).
Thanks for the tip on the skins. I could only load the Gurjon 5.1 but wasn't impressed with the yellow cursor arrow sticking out the sides of the Mini Cooper. Will try others, which is the one with the one with car and the nightime headlights? I'm assuming these are all for iGo 8.3.2.
For those running 8.3.2.xxx and quite possibly 8.3.1 or 8.0 and are running one of the dimka or gurjon skins with a car cursor. If you want to get rid of the annoying cursor arrow beneath the car I found that if you edit the sys.text to the following, the arrow will disappear:
I'm running MN7.3.1 build 557. Can't recall where I got it though, pretty sure it was PPCWarez.org. Map is North America Version Q3 2008.
thanks.
Downloaded Navigon and I'm downloading the maps now. The NOrth America maps is a total of of 1.5 gigs is that correct?
I'll be trying to install this later on today.
Is it tough to install? Just copy the folder to the SD card?
They all work fine, but I noticed the battery life is AWFUL. The battery definitely lasts less than an hour using iGo8. Anybody else experiencing this?
I have to agree with the battery life issue. I can only get a little over an hour out of it, depending on the settings. But since all I do with it is drive, its not such a problem.
Anyone tried loading MobileXT 5.00.20w with 2009 maps on C520 before? Did you find it easy to use?
Even I see a lot of people mentioned on gpsunderground that it works well on C520, somehow in my case it is not the case at all.
Here are the problems:
1. The map drawing is extremely slow (when hitting on "+" or "-" to change the view of the map), sometimes I think the GPS died on me.
2. How come the interface is different from the Garmin 360 I used before, there is no bar at the bottom telling you which road you are on.
3. During the navigation, the screen ocassionally will freeze for a while and the car cursor on the screen is not moving along with your car movement, however the voice works fine to direct you about the distance and turns.
I have tried iGo 8.3.1, Navigon MN7, Destinator, Polnav and garmin, sames still iGo is the best choice over all.
Really want to get Garmin to work smoothly, anyone knows what is the issue I am encountering (Especially the first issue)?
Cheers
I am having the same issue with the garmin drawing quite slowly. I find that when driving, it refreshes like every second, so its not smooth. It also has no TTS, and the interface is not as good as igo's. The best thing is that it has the best routing engine.
Not sure if you tried the TomTom software, but I quite like that one except for the fact that it does not have TTS, and its interface is close, but just not as nice as igo.
As you said the best navigation software is probably igo 8.3.2, because it has navteq maps, with possible teleatlas POI, and its interface is the best (i find), has TTS, really fast. It just does not have the best routing engine.
Yes its the C520 they even gave me a guarantee on it for 2yrs for 9.99 lol so at end of 2 yrs it will have a accidental drop and hopefully get a newer model that can be modded or my full money back
I live in a isolated area up in the great north lol so not many RFDers up here so when it comes to hd-dvd, 2/40 or this kind of deal I just get lucky because good selection small amount of people know what to look for
Just ask local Staples my location had no advertisement I just asked they went in the back took about 10 min to find lol but came back with a unopened C520
I read it from a thread a guy had here from Dec 18th or something like that in Alberta lol with no confirmation from anyone
If you dont ask you shall not receive lol
FS has a 8gb on for 19.99 go pick it up download files in OP and you have a hand held PC
going to Sears later today for HD-DVDs
Good Luck to everyone and great and useful thread OP
I have mine hooked up via a cassette adapter(If you have a tape player in your car) and a 2.5mm to 3.5 mm adapter. Alternately you'd need to add an FM Transmitter, just keep in mind that buying a cheap FM transmitter is probably no deal, since even the best don't work so great.
I would use a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (i got a mono one from the source for 96cents), and then since I got a FM transmitter, I just use that to get it into my stereo. My FM transmitter is the white one from canadian tire which also has a 100watt power inverter. I found a good channel and only ocassionaly (usually only when driving under high voltage power lines), have static.
Thats the one I got, I paid $20 for it on sale, but I would not buy it for $60. I think the biggest problem is that people can't find a good channel to set it to and thats why it does not work very well. I live a few hours out of Vancouver, so it was hard finding a channel that actually worked good, but I did. Overall I am fairly happy with it. But as I said earlier, I would not pay $60 for it
The link tells you how to crack MioMap for upgrade the new maps - doesn't matter it's 2007 or 2008.
My question was where did you get MioMap's 2008 maps?
Yeah they should have allow us to get a free update since we just bought them.
The 2006 map didn't have our community though it was built in 2003, the 2007 is updated a little. I tried to look for the children's hospital and it directed me to the old address. The Hospital has been moved since 2007.
So where can we find the 2008?
I bought a SDW-820 (b only) from ebay and it connects with WEP or no-encyrption with my router, but WPA2-PSK (eventhough the drivers support it) gets rejected by my router. I haven't tried a different router yet, but none-the-less, it gave me a taste of what wireless internet on this unit is like.
And here are my thoughts:
- b vs. b/g: don't bother, stick to 'b' unless you want to shell-out more money.
The bottle neck on the unit will not be the over-the-air transfer speed (11 Mb/s is plenty), but the CPU/RAM/Graphics re-draw speed, and last, but not least, the browser used will be the bottleneck.
- I used Opera and it is sluggish for sure. I wouldn't call it usable, but sufficient if you are stranded somewhere and want to get on the net
- did I say sluggish! Yes it is - graphics redraws are horrendous on this unit, even normal file explorer has problems.
I tried MIOPocket R32 as well as The SimpleWireless unlock only by g_alin@gpspassion which uses InternetExplorer (iesample) and even though the latter was a bit faster, it is still far from usable by my standards.
I've always avoided Apple products because I don't like the associations that comes with it, but I've seen the iPOD touch browse the web and it is night and day different. (+10 for iPOD touch).
I splurged and got the Spectec 11 b/g and indeed it is still very slow. I am to be able to connect but man does the page load ever so slowly; and I'm sitting infront of my Wireless Modem at home. Has anyone got better success? Any tips, additional software out there. I am using the Opera from Mio Pocket... I'm on MioPocket 2.0 release 34.
Any help would be appreciated or I have wasted my money on the Wifi card.
No... Without proof of purchase, you cannot return anything. You'll have to ask the person who bought it for you for the receipt. Even with the receipt, if that person bought it a long time ago, you won't be able to exchange/return it anyway.
edit: For future information, if you lost the receipt but paid with a credit card, the store might be able to retrace it back if you know which card you paid with. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with your stuff if you don't have a receipt.
This thread is information overload..
Can someone clarify a few things for me?
The Mio C520 comes with MioMap but is compatible with iGo, is that right?
If I want to only use iGO I can install it directly on the device without using an SD card?
Is there a site someone can direct me to that explains the features of MioMap over iGo?
Specifically, I want TTS and the ability to add multiple favourites. Not just Home and Work and not just the History as I can't name them there.
Would replacing MioMap with iGo be the best route for me?
iGo is compatible to run on your Mio once its unlocked.
Yes, you can install iGo directly to device. No reason why though.
Replacing MioMap with iGo best route? Only you can answer that. If you invest some time and read this thread iGo is certainly better than Miomap and probably the best gps map available.
First unlock with Miopocket and work on iGo from there. But please read this thread carefully and other sites as well.
Not true. Depending on the FS you might be able to. I have returned stuff there without a receipt and it wasn't bought on a credit card. They gave me a Gift Card for the amount of the item. And this has happened more than once. No harm in trying.
Thanks guys and also Hainkurt. The only things that took time was the downloads. Once I had everything went fast. And Igo has what a lot of the MIO Maps was missing. This will be a keeper now. I can see myself having fun with the other stuff that this can do unlocked once I find time.
Yep, I just used the files posted by hainkurt and the readme file
1. Extract all files to SD card
2. Create a new folder in the root of the SD card - named for the version moov you have. For the 200C the folder should be named "Cobia_300_64_NA"
3. copy MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe from the root to the Cobia Folder
4. Rename MioAutoRun.exe to Auto.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to auto.mscr
5. I pulled out the card when done, restarted and inserted the card and that was it.
I finally got around to giving this a go and it worked great! I simply followed the instructions above and managed to unlock my Mio Moov 200c. The only thing I had to do in addition to these instructions was to change the skin to a 320x240 one since the files posted by HeinKurt defaults to a larger resolution causing the display to be stretched beyond the physical screen size. Changing the skin is pretty easy. Once you've copied all the files to the SD card find the following file:
[SD Card]\MioAutoRun\Skin\SysInfoSettings.ini
Edit it using Notepad so it looks like this:
Pages\Ice320x240_Footer.ini
Pages\Ice320x240_Navigation.ini
Now put the SD card into your Mio Moov 200c and do a hard reset to install.
Same, just IGO 8.3.2 (nov 13). I find it the best looking, has the best maps, most options, fastest, TTS, and works with bluetooth fine. I have tried Garmin, Tomtom and the stock mio one, but igo is the overall best.
I am not impressed with this machine at all.
First of all, I just want to use it out of the box without any hacking. But it seems even the out of box install has major problems... for me at least.
I currently only have US maps and the activation code their site gave me is not working when i try to update the US and Canada maps from the disk.
So, I went on and tried to hack it. Took 4 hours to figure this out - now in hindsight I see it wasn't that difficult but it's going to run that miopocket installer after every shutdown?
Also the touch screen is annoyingly unresponsive - even after a calibration.
I am sooo aggrevated. I bought this for my dad who just wants a simple gps.
I would like to give this one last chance and at least get the Canadian maps on here before returning it.
Guess you didn't read the first few pages. If you don't want to mod, than you should have gone the garmin/tomtom route. I recommend the 265wt or 755T. Nice right out of the box. You want a cheaper one, go with 255w.
Always do your research before you buy. I've had a garmin, it was nice but wanted more features.
You got in on the 99.97 deal at staples and pricematched FS right? It would be nice if you could sell to someone on here instead of returning it. I got mine already though.
It shouldn't have to run miopocket after every shutdown (unless by shutdown you meet draining the battery completely). My advice is to run the simple unlock, not miopocket. The simple unlock (its on this page or the last page) is much simpler. But actually if its for your dad, I would recommend using miomaps and not hacking it. You should be able to get canadian maps on there legally (well actually it should be on there originally).
Well, I did some research first. Actually, I am a research junkie - one of the reasons I am always on this site.
I did figure the thing should be usuable out of the box. I have the Canadian maps on it, but the annoying feature that even the mod can't fix, like the touch screen isn't sensitive enough. I often have to press hard a few times to get it to recognize I want to select an option. I have have adjusted the touchscreen settings.
I find that the touchscreen is not very responsive to a finger, like my iPhone is. It works well if I use the tip of my fingernail though. A stylus works well too, but not really convenient. Even if you don't have long fingernails, you can just point your finger "down" and kind of tap with the hard surface of your nail edge and it works for typing and scrolling.
So far, I am not happy with this unit at all. I have a low end Tom Tom One that as far as navigation is concerned, is far superior (which is sad). Sure, the hackability is fun but there are some outstanding generic issues that make using this thing an absolute pain:
1) The volume is ridiculously low, even when maxed out, I can barely hear it (and yes I have exceptional hearing) when driving, even with the radio off. As for using the unit as a handfree phone via Bluetooth, forget it. Sound quality is atrocious and volume is a problem, once again.
2) The TTS logic sucks. It constantly names roads by their numbers, rather than pronouncing their proper names. Unless you know where you are going, hearing, "turn left onto RR Route 79" is useless when it is "Carling Avenue" that is meant.
3) The voice commands are confusing and annoying. The voice constantly reminds you of an upcoming turn (in hundreds of meters, yards) but does not tell you when the turn is upon you. So if you are in a busy, built up area, you never know when you are supposed to turn. Also, the commands tell you to "turn" when you are really only baring in a direction, not turning. Commands also do not tell you when to stay left or right when on highways with exits and forks all over the place.
Again, being able to run apps has a certain coolness factor but this thing fails on what it is really supposed to do; get you from point A to B with clear, easily heard/understood directions. I honestly don't know why people are going nuts over this unit. Mine is going back.
Sure, it should be placed in folder: SD card/iGo8/content/userdata/POI
It was in my garage that someone broke into (older style detached garage).
I decided I would always leave the GPS in the car, its just too much hassle to take it out every time. If I did that, I would NEVER use it.
Is it ironic that the reason I broke my first C520 was that I thought I would begin taking it inside with me to avoid being stolen and I promptly walked into a doorknob and crushed the screen of the GPS that was in my pocket?
I think I'm not meant to own a mio.
At least the guy had the decency to leave behind two sunglasses with a value of $300 each. Too bad he took my $1 USD in quarters and stole the earmuffs that were in my jacket pocket.
Ever since I updated the version of Igo on mine, I've had nothing but trouble with it, although I'm sure it is not the device's fault. Now, I have to exit Igo before I can press the power button on top of the device or all hell breaks loose. If I don't do that, the device will randomly lock up and behave in an extremely flaky manner until I have to hard reboot it, run the proprietary Mio software, suspend, bring out of suspension and redo ridiculously annoying crack to get Pocket running again. Oh and Toronto is always the default city when doing a search now. Extremely annoying. Anyhow, again, not the device's fault but caution to those that aspire to hack the device as general population experiences are mixed. Furthermore, beware that the standard TTS voices are inaudible (I have beyond perfect hearing) when driving. If it weren't for my poorly functioning Igo (volume-hacked so I can hear non-TTS directions), I would have chucked this unit out the window. Mio support will just laugh at you if you try to have them help you get the speech at an audible level.
I'm using iGo8, no idea what release but I set it up around April of 2009. It took me a long time to get it working because not all builds worked, I had to keep fiddling with it (not really knowing what I was doing) until I stumbled upon a working configuration.
Anyways, I got distinator 9 and its real nice except it has an extremely small POI database. I hope I can upgrade that soon somehow.
Just an update...I tried out destinator 9 and wheil I like its interface a lot, it is unusable for me. POI searching is extremely slow compared to what I"m used to. In Igo8 I start typing the name of a POI and its almost isntant that the list pops up and the number shows how many search "hits" are available (to let you know if you need to type more of the name or not). On Destinator 9 they don't show you how many hits are on there, you just have to hit search and wait 2-3 minutes.
Thats not even the worst part. The really bad part is that their POI is extremely limited up to the point where I would deem it almost useless. I checked many restaurants and stores and almost none were there. For example I searched for "tire" as I was right next to a superior tire. The GPS brought up about 20 different locations of CANADIAN TIRE, not a single other tire store was brought up.
From what I gather, depends upon what region you live in. Personally I don't find much difference, I have found both with small errors. Updated maps are always better especially for larger centers with new roadways.
