It had price error at Zellers for $489 a month ago, link (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646655&highlight=olevia)

It's going to be on sale soon at the Bay for $599 if anybody missed last price error.

For $599 some people might not really mind compromising on the style a bit.

If i was looking at this set I'd wonder if the new owners of Olevia are still honouring the warranty on sets sold.

Where are you getting this information from? And when will it be on sale, I am assuming in stores as well?

I think the speakers are removable and the tv can be dropped down on its stand, so that helps, though it's still not the thinnest frame... maybe not fugly, but fordinary?

Sale on Appl. or Elec just warm incl. this Olevia or Sony 46S4100 for $1,199.

good point about the age of the various models...
although, this Olevia is not really 2 years old - it's a new "b12" version with the same model number that seems to have come out in the past year or so (2/3 the weight, another HDMI input, new video processing chip), not sure if firmware was upgraded more recently...

I managed to get one for the $489 price and, for the money, I'm very happy with it. It's not the most stylish set around though and I wish the unit could pivot on its stand. Should've picked up a couple more for colleagues who tried to get in on it too late.

I picked up one for $489 and it was a no brainer that was certainly worth it. Picture and styling are fine with a decent set of connections. It is a classic case of "more than sufficient at a bargain price point".

It is not still available at that price. I had to get HBC head office involved to get mine at the $489 price.

For anyone that has or is getting this tv and has a motorola DVR with the atlas remote, the correct code for this TV is 1610. If you have an older remote it may not recognize this code. Cogeco replaced the remotes for me without any questions.

there's TWO 542is sitting in Scarborough Town Center Bay. Maybe you can buy it now and match the price later (of course, inquire about that before you buy).

They are selling for $899 (I had a chuckle cuz I got it for $489).

p.s - It's a GREAAT TV for that PRICE!

When you got head office involved HBC, was it because they cancelled your order? or you complained that it was OOS too fast?

Thanks..

I imagine because the website said "also available at the BAY" (it was on Zellers.com website) but most Bay stores were not honouring the price on the website.

Can someone post a reject email where they will not process the Zellers order? I may try a complaint to HBC this week and see where it goes. Also, did anyone PDF the web page when it was on sale at Zellers?

I got head office involved after the sales person at The Bay store refused to honour the price. I had called asking them to hold one, and then showed them the flyer when I went to pick it up.

There is an art to successfully pleading your case :)

If i was looking at this set I'd wonder if the new owners of Olevia are still honouring the warranty on sets sold.

Well, it's advertised as coming with a warranty (so dealer should be on hook if manufacturer balks), it still comes with a warranty card (so Olevia should still be on hook), there is still somebody responding to email support requests (so somebody is still there).

As I understand, bankruptcy (as Olevia declared) does not necessarily mean a firm stops functioning, it's an accounting measure; I think that usually when a firm petitions a court for bankruptcy status, it's a condition of its bankruptcy that its warranty obligations to existing buyers continue... we'll likely learn more about this w.r.t. the big 3 auto manufacturers soon enough:(

edit: hmm, it might not be quite so rosy, i.e. it may not be quite so automatic that the court takes steps to ensure there is money set aside to pay for warranty service:
