I need to get a dremel for a little project I'm doing, never used one before so no idea how it really is or what it includes, but would I be able to use this to replace a dremel (is it actually a dremel?)

Absolutely. Looks like the exact same body as the Jobmate one from CT, which works pretty damn well for the price.

FYI
Dremel is a brand of tools, primarily rotary tools, developed by Albert J. Dremel, who founded the Dremel Company in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1993 the company was purchased by Robert Bosch GmbH, and today it is a division of the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation and located in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Dremel rotary tools may be likened to the pneumatic die grinders used in the metalworking industry by tool or moldmakers.

I found a 12v impact driver by the same company, power smith, at zellers not very long ago for similarly extremely low price. the quality is decent for what i paid.
so... keep an eye out for other power tools from that company while you're looking around as that isn't the only one that had it's price reduced :)

Zellers seems to have a routine 50% off yellow sticker hardware sale every so often (seemingly very often). Almost better to wait until then for this stuff. And don't worry, the stuff will still be there. Its always there. No matter how many sales I see on these powersmith tools, they never go away. I don't know if elves or constantly churning them out in the back rom or what.

Do yourselves a favor, and purchase some QUALITY sanding sleeves.. I had 3 blow up (literally fall apart) while I was using them. Amazing how far they fly at that many RPM's (and how deep they can cut when they hit skin.. I should scan some pics of the stitches I had to go and get)

I agree completely. But to be fair, I think most sanding discs are like that. I think they provided an impression through all the commercials over the years, this is an easy tool for anyone to use. Sort of like scissors. But something that spins this fast with parts that fragile is actually quite dangerous. I had mastercraft stuff that also exploded. It has to do with you need a steady hand. If you are cutting at an angle you are bound to shatter this stuff. i still have not mastered that skill ... so I buy lots of cheap disks ;)

Thanks for the deal OP. Great to know about it since the Zellers in Westbank didn't even have the yellow stickers on them. Scanned at $14.99. I'm sure this will come in handy sometime.

I picked up the "Kawasaki" model at Costco two weeks ago for $30 (I think). I haven't used it yet, but it comes with a whackload of bits and attachments, including a shaft, so I don't feel, um, shafted.
I have a real Dremel that has to be 15 years old, and it works fine, but it lives at the cottage for my hobby stuff. Dremels are just too damn handy. You may not take it off the shelf for a year, then you use it 5 times in a row for jobs no other tool can do.
Seriously. Kawasaki. Who the hell do these companies think they are fooling by branding 3rd party tools with unrelated brand names? I know it's a knockoff - stop trying to pretend it isn't.

The tool itself isn't worth much and probably won't last very long but the accessories themselves are worth more than the price.

The last time Zellers had a sale on the Power Smith tools, I picked up the bigger rotary tool set for $20-something. I already have a Mastercrap one and they're probably from the same Chinese factory. It was worth it for the accessories alone, because when I'm working on a project, I tend to go through the sanding ones pretty quickly. I don't recall right now what else is in the kit, but I'm pretty sure it had at least a flex shaft. Might be worth the additional $$ if it's on sale as well.
Make sure you wear eye protection and have a good grip on the rotary tool. I've had cut-off discs get shredded and it's easy for your disc to hit something and cause the tool to "jump". I don't think there's a big difference between cheap accessories vs. Dremel-branded ones. The Dremel ones don't seem any thicker.
For tool newbies like me, the trickiest thing is figuring out when to use what. I had a piece of metal to cut recently. My rotary tool was taking too long, I contemplated using my angle grinder, but it seemed like overkill, then decided to try my reciprical (sp?) saw and it went through it like butter, although you have to secure what you're cutting.

Bought one this afternoon at Kennedy/Vodden Zellers in Brampton. Showed @24.99 on shelf but scanned at $14.99. At end of aisle they had dremels with rechargeable kit at $49.99 from the same mfg. -- but I looked further down the aisle on the bottom shelf and found the kit. They still had 4 left at this store.

OK, lady here, asking a question...
I saw the Kawasaki ones at Costco, and debated buying one. Could this be used to file things? I took the dog to Pet Smart and they charged $13 to file her nails low so that they won't scratch the hardwood as badly. I thought that they were using a rotary Dremel device. Could I buy this tool at Zellers for my dog's nails (using the right attachment, of course)?

Yes I own a Dremel instead of the one they have at Costco. We've saved a few dollars by doing the dog's nails ourselves using the proper bit. Just be careful to do it bit by bit since the nail heats up during prolonged 'shavings'.

7 left at the Pickering Town Center Zellers. Got one, good deal and yes...perfect for doggie manicures, particularly with the ease of the flex shaft. Regular price at Zellers appears to be $19.99 so don't be fooled by that $49.95 tag in the 1st pic. Still scanning in at $14.99 though.

Didn't think I'd be able to find it, but I went to the Cote-Vertu location in Saint-Laurent (Montreal). There were 2 factory-sealed boxes. Yeah!
If you're looking for the last one, go to the second floor. At the beginning of the power tools aisle there's an island display stand with Power Smith tools. Look around the middle row. It's got a $14.99 yellow sticker on it, with $49.99 crossed out.

Ok, I just have to say one thing here: if you've never used a rotary tool before DON"T USE IT ON A LIVE ANIMAL!!!
You could easily maim it......I've had sanding grinding stones slip off the piece I'm working on and have it burn instantly into my skin (anyone want to see the scar?). Get something spinning at 14,000 rpms wrapped up in fur and it'll rip the skin right out.
With that being said, as someone else mentioned: buy quality. The reason the sanding discs fly apart is because the chinese don't give a rat's ass about your health or well being. The Dremel brand discs DO NOT FLY APART they simply wear down. In 30 yrs of using a dremel I've never had one of theirs come apart, only the cheapie Crappy Tire and chinese brands.
My previous dremel lasted for 29 yrs and finally gave up the ghost. I purchased an off brand and it lasted 2 months. I therefore went out and bought a REAL dremel and it's going strong after 4 yrs of hard use......
I've never had a dog's nails done, nor seen it done but if anyone can provide a picture of a dog groomer using a corded rotary tool on a dog, I'd love to see it........
just as I thought:

I'd never get past this part:
from the PEtsmart website: "Your pet should be comfortable with you touching their feet before you expose them to the rotary tool"............

the accessory alone is worth $15 at Canadiantire.
The disc and the other accs are not that good, but when you have like 20+ of them, you dont really care about breaking them.
i bought 5 dremel brand disc and cost me $5. They are stronger but i wouldn't mind exchanging them for 20discs of lower quality.
i dont know how you guys manage to use this tool with your pets. My dog would never let me touch his nails.... i cant even imagine his reaction when i turn on the rotary tool. Just the noise from the motor will scare him away.

The Oakville Zellers on Rebecca Street had at least 15 of these on an end display in the tools section on December 23rd. There should be some left for those who are interested.

Went to Hillcrest Mall Richmond Hill On. They have nothing. The lazy CSR could barely make the effort to shuffle over to the counter to check the flyer and she told me "if it isn't in the flyer we don't carry it." She shrugged and shuffled away.

I picked this up this morning at Zellers for $7.49. They also had the 245 piece set for even cheaper, $5.99 ... it comes with two machines and all the fixings.
I also picked up the Lithium Ion stick drive for $4.49, the Stanley 4 pack of pliers (surprisingly decent quality, better than the picture implies) for $3.74, the 1600 hundred piece hardware kit was 2 bux ..... I snagged a ton of other crap too for cheap, tools and whatnot. Looks like all the Stanley stuff is 50% off, no matter if it is clearence or not.

I just snagged three of these at the Charlottetown Zellers for $7.49 each. Sold 2 to friends for same price. Thanks OP for getting me out looking.
If you see it tagged for more be sure to scan it. Zellers seem pretty laxed some times with stickers. Mine was tagged $49.99, scratched out and retagged for $34.99, had a 50% off sign above the end cap, however when I scanned it with the price check it came up 'regular' $24.99, 'sale' $7.49. So if anyone sees these seemingly priced high be sure to scan it before you walk away.
I would suspect the quality of this is not too far from a genuine dremel, these things are like printers it is the bits and accessories that the money is made on.

There are still plenty of these around Brampton, Ont. I picked up 5 for friends / family.
Trinity Common (410 / Bovaird) has lots. Centennial mall (Kennedy / Vodden). Shopper World (Steeles / 10), and Milton Mall all have several of these in. Some are scattered around hardware / plumbing / housewares etc...
Bramalae City Center does not have any.
Still going strong at $7.49.
