View Full Version : car KEYED again!

mystery
Dec 2nd, 2008, 06:09 PM
A couple of years ago, the passenger side of my car (Mercedes C class) was keyed front to back. It was repaired under comprehensive portion of my insurance, with me paying $300 deductible.

Today I discover my driver's side is keyed front to back, and it seems to have been done while I was parked at work.

Of course I filed the police report and reported to insurance.

This is such a nuisance. Never mind the $300 I have to pay, but the inconvenience of having the adjuster look at the car, and waiting for days to have it repaired.

Why are there such evil people in the world?

The guy I suspected of doing it last time (whom I didn't accuse because I wasn't sure) was forced to resign over a year ago.

If you were the cause of his resignation, maybe he comes back once a year or so to do his yearly scratching of your car? grudge perhaps.

Nope....he was totally incompetent and that was the reason he was forced to resign. The people he reported to hated him as did his management after a while. If their cars were keyed too, then I would agree.

Set up a mini surv. camera inside the car, more than 1 if needed.

You can google and find some of those gadgets over the net. I've seen them before. It doesn't suck up much of the electricity from your battery, but it gets the job done.

This is the reason why I started parking my car in company's secure compound when I am on a trip, as I dont have a garage.

****ing idiots who never bothered to finish school and want to work 3 hours a day and earn 100k for doing nothing. These people are worse than drug addicts who break into cars.

What year is the C-Class? Sorry to hear. Mine's an older one so I guess it's safe from the a**holes, but it's one of my worst fears of owning a newer luxury car for something like this to happen.

2004 C230K sedan, which I am proud to say will be paid off finally in 4 months....It really pisses me off that I work hard for something and take good care of it--then someone decides to vandalize out of jealousy/whim/hatred/whatever.

I am really tempted to install camera surveillance. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Yeah true, but the fact that the vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz is good enough to get people's attention. I mean, mine costs less than my peers cars (Toyota's, Acura's, etc.), yet everyone gets all excited at the prospect of getting driven in a Benz when going home if I happen to be going their way. Weird I know, but that's just my experience.

I totally understand your pain. My Acura got keyed in the passenger side as well extending to the front bumper. Guess where? T&T supermarket. If I ever catch the damn asian that did this

Do not go to the T&T at Warden/Steeles in the weekends, it's a mess. That parking lot on Satursday can accumulate over 10000 cars, you can see Canada's best and worst drivers, angry/agressive drivers and incompetent drivers, 95 year-old and 10 years old drivers, super cars and beaters.

I guess if you live in Mississauga you often go to the T&T on Mavis and Central parkway, that one is actually not bad, much better than the one in Markham.

Getting a car keyed or egged is one of the most rage inciting things. Honestly I feel like I can break someone in half when this happens. One thing I try to do is park as far away from other cars as possible, I just don't trust idiots when they open their cars or park. My mom's Civic has so many dents from people opening their doors and hitting the car next to them. I also think it might deter some car keyers since there wouldn't be a lot of cars around to block their view. It's also a lot easier to find parking when you go straight to the back of the lot.

I have a 10 year old Camry which miraculously was dent- and scratch-free until a few months ago when some fine upstanding parolee (I live in the prison capital of Canada) keyed it right down to the metal in a Loblaws parking lot. I have no idea for what perceived affront; I was dead centre between the painted lines.

My repair with the completely useless Toyota touch up pen was less than perfect. Anybody know what it costs to sand down and repaint an 8-inch scratch?

It may not be too late to report to your insurance company. Bear in mind you have to still file a police report.

I don't think they can just sand down and re-paint the scratched area. It would have to be the entire PANEL(s) that is/are affected.

Hee. The car is worth about $5000 these days; although it's in excellent shape many would consider it a beater. I'm not going to risk higher insurance premiums for what is really vanity.

If I could get it fixed for $150 cash I'd do it, though, but I have the impression that this is unrealistic.

Those pens are useless. You need to get the brush on kind from automotivetouchup.com <--check that url. I am not 100% sure, if its wrong, google it.

--long and repetitive paint repair info--
You can totally fix up that scratch yourself and it should look decent.
It just takes a lot of patience as you have to rough sand then fine sand, tack cloth it, thin layer of primer, fine sand, tack cloth, another layer, repeat until the scratch is level with the rest of the car's paint job.

Then wait 1-2 days for the primer to fully set. Then use 1000 grit super fine steel wool gently, tack cloth, very thin layer of paint, wait 20 mins, , tack cloth again, another layer of paint, and repeat.

Then wait 2 days then do top coat, several layers and the whole steelwool/tackcloth bit until you are satistfied.

Wait several more days maybe even a week, and you can use rubbing compound on it to really mesh it with the original paint job.

Do not use wax products on it for 1 month.

WTF, getting your car keyed in the T-dot, again proof that the t-dot *ucks *ss. Anyway sucks to be you. I did see a commercial for a scratch removing pen on the tv the other day. It matches any colour and blends in perfect. If I find it online I will post a link.

Not going overboard at all. These are the exact people that do this sort of stuff over here. The ******* "work less party" members who believe they have a god given right to welfare above the national pay average and protest the most random of things just because they have nothing better to do. Although the last guy who keyed hundreds of cars was Asian and had a grudge against ICBC.

By the way, my car is metallic (light gold), and any touchup is going to be obvious because of the metallic flakes going on in a non-uniform manner.

My car was just properly fixed, and it is in perfect condition again, thanks to the work by Kennedy MB Autobody.

Fortunately they were able to take my car in right after the appraiser approved the work, then it took only 3 days for them to complete it.

Now I'm going to install cameras inside my car....
