Hey guys,
for some reason my headphones only last for 10 months and then I gotta keep changing them. The input jack always screws up and i gotta play with it in order for it to work. So now my iPod headphones are gone and I went to the apple store today and they were selling it for $29+ tax but I was wondering if there were better headphones out there below $40? I used to have those $20 sony headphones before and there were decent but im looking for good ones which deliver good music and will last longer...thanks!

These are the best head phones that I've owned so far...

They are decently priced and can take a lot of abuse. I mean, I used to use earbud headphones, but I would go through a set about every month before the speaker blows or the quality degrades. So I would totally recommend these headphones. And they look cool too.

I find that the jacks that are angled (90 degrees) last longer than ones that aren't angled.

I have the HD 202's which can go for around $40-60 & I'd have to say I'd rather use headphones like this vs earbuds.

I dont want earphones...somehow i find them uncomfortable when they are plugged in my ear
@ others..I was looking for more like the iPod style headphones (not earphones or those big headphones that you put over your head), just the small usual ones.

I think what he means is he wants earbuds not IEMs/canalphones. Unfortunately I don't know of any decent earbuds except for the Yuin PK series but those are way out of OP's budget.
To OP: Give the Sennheiser MX series a try: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Compact+Headphones&product=3318308
Alternatively if you want to try a step-up from those: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=23758 | http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004Z0BO/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all

let's stop playing that guessing game. Op doesn't give descriptive info regarding what he wants, NO HELP FOR YOU! (no soup for your parody).

AKG k312P
clean highs and warm mids

from the review on ncix the senheimer MX500's might be what your looking for as the user whom has the 1 review on it was using them with a ipod & said he couldn't go back to the ipod ones after.

If you dont care so much about sound quality and want mostly bass then the mx500 might not be for you. Maybe one of those sony "bass enhanced" earbuds might be good, might you the bass seems very "bloated" and artificial imho. But I guess there that basshead crowd that judges earphones by how much bass they can pump out.

just fyi: those things are still called... earphones, cause they sit on your ear instead of your head.

Well again its the fact that a small diaphramed speaker cannot produced the bass frequencies of that of a reguar or over the ear headphone can. I am shure if peaple whom where bassheads could they'd mount 6" speakers to the sides of there heads  :P
The problem is again the sound output of the unit 1st & formost. Like in the case of my Creative Zen V plus. if you disable the bass boost the song comes out flat & all trebly, flip it on & it sounds perfect. BUT mess with the eq settings that the bass in the eq bands it up & it becomes all muddy & garbage to lisen too.
The best you can get for bass reproduction in a headphone is a over the head closed ear headset. I mean do you see DJ's wearing earbuds ?? No cause they don't give you that bass beat groove/feel that a closed ear headset does.
