Different company name with different address works.
I did not apply for the 2nd time though.
BEWARE!!!! This Amex promotion should not be churned!
I applied for multiple cards and was approved. After a 1-2 months, I was put under financial review and all my cards were frozen. Then they asked for income tax returns, and business registrations and business income statements from Revenue Canada. If I didn't provide them, they were going to close all my accounts. I have a 750 score and have been with Amex for 10 years. I have never once paid any bill late in the last 15 years. Once you provide the information they ask for, they will come back to you in a few days and ask for more information. Then they rinse and repeat until they even know who you're sleeping with at night. Trust me it was a total nightmare. Google "Amex financial review" to see how horrible it is.
I'm not saying that churning doesn't work with other banks. But churning with Amex doesn't work. You can't apply for cards repeatedly just to get the signup bonus. Their system will pick this up and red flag you, skin you alive, and roast you for dinner.

This is not because you churned, this is a random thing Amex has been doing lately. And it doesnt affect your credit score.

I wouldn't go for multiple cards, but I also would have told them to close my Amex account if they tried that. Only the government gets all that information--and only if it's appropriate.

Not true. The analyst specifically said that my FR was triggered by multiple applications for the Amex Gold with the 25K promotion.
If your cards get cancelled by the card issuer (as opposed to you cancelling them), this can be noted in your credit report.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you applied for multiple simultaneous cards. Forgive me, but that is silly, should not be done, will hardly, if ever, work (even with another credit card company) and that isn't what is being talked about; we're talking about reapplying after a year or more.

I applied for another card after 6 months. The main issue is having the documentation to support the business existence. You need to have business income verification- Revenue Canada statements, articles of incorporation. If you apply once as only a sole proprietor, you will be accepted. If you apply for a different business or again as a sole proprietor, then at some point they will probably FR you and ask for Revenue Canada statements, business registrations for BOTH businesses, and also review your personal cards and personal income.
IF you genuinely have multiple businesses which are registered, and have verifiable government-reported income, then you have nothing to worry about.
I know that there are some people here who will indignantly claim that what I said will never happen to them. But just wait and see.

I`m near the end of my free year trial. And I`m trying to figure a way to not affect my credit score. If I were to cancel the card, but say ask them to instead switch me to a non-annual fee card, would this keep the AMEX card active in the credit report without affecting the score?

You could only switch to a business charge card. Amex has none that are no-fee. You're SOL.

I see. I didn't take the comment that "people are getting greedy" as specifically connected to multiple cards, but I see where you are coming from now.
I had cancelled my original card (after 11 months), then reapplied for a card associated with a different business and received it. After I spend $3K we'll see if I get the 25K point bonus.

I tried getting this deal but ended up telling them to get lost and losing $25. Can't remember all the details (it was when the deal first came out) but they wanted a tonne of info and I got a $1 check sent back with NO explanation. I then got a call so I repeated the procedure but forgot to move $1 from savings to checking so I got a NSF charge. True it was a ****** move and now I leave $30-40 in chequing but I'd had enough.
I got an Aerogold for Business 3 years ago just by filling out the application and waiting a few weeks. I've been in business for over 17yrs no debt, cash in the bank and the Aerogold's limit was over 20K always paid in full.

I just noticed the following in the statement:
"All foreign currency charges have been converted into Canadian dollars on the date we processed the
charge. Non-U.S. dollar charges have been converted through U.S. dollars, by converting the charge
amount into U.S. dollars and then by converting that U.S. dollar amount into Canadian dollars. U.S. dollar
charges have been converted directly into Canadian dollars."
Is this common pratice for all CC?
I would like to know if I should use another CC for non-US transactions.

Great! Does anyone actually get approved in 60 seconds like it says on the website, cause I didnt...
Also, my dad also wants to apply, but I would have to use the same address... will it matter?
Do you have to write sole proprietorship anywhere, or just use your name?
finally, SIN or no SIN? does it help in anyway to put it down?

I think most people don't get approved in 60 seconds. See the post above yours about the name/sole proprietorship question. If you give your SIN, it's easier for them to locate your credit profile but not required.

Admittedly, I've not read through the entire thread and I only pop into here once in a while to read a bit. I think I'm finally going to give this a try.
Saw on the first page Najibs mentioned that:
"I even heard people were using their own name as the business name and had no problems. The application seems to only ask you for your business name, and nothing more about the business."
I was looking through the application and now they ask about your legal business name (as registered), the number of years your business has been around for, the number of employees, etc.
Are they being more detailed with their applications to prevent people from taking advantage of the promo? I mean, they did raise the $1000 spending within the first 3 months to $3000 now, so they do seem to be "finetuning" things ... should I be worried/weary?

I can't get access to the online transfer. Still showing the message: The American Express Online Services system has not properly responded to your request. If you were attempting to view Billing Details, the system may be unable to return all of your charges at one time. Soo frustrating!
How are those that have successfully transferred online managed to get around this? If I do a transfer by phone, will they allow the transfer to go through to my cousin's aeroplan account, or would they insist that I transfer to my own aeroplan account?

Anyone get a call to add insurance coverage $0.99 per every $100 balance that covers up to 20000 on the balance if you get sick or lose your job?
They also mentioned that if you get married, buy a house, have a kid, or have a kid going to college that they will give you $1000 for up to 2 of these in 2 year intervals. Sounds too good to be true for this part. Anyone know the catch?

There was a post in another forum that indicated Amex's system was set up to start on Dec 15 in error. Definitely worth a call to Amex for the extra points.
About three weeks ago, I transferred 38000 Membership Rewards Points. It figures that I find out about this promotion now. I would have obviously waited and transferred the points to take advantage of the promotion.
So being a typical RFD'er, I called the Retentions department to see what they could do (I worked for Amex before, so I know they have flexibility in awarding bonus points and such...but they don't need to know that :P).
Long story short (and staying on the phone with them for a very long time), they gave me 5000 bonus Aeroplan points, instead of what I would have gotten (9500). It's better than nothing, so I can't complain. :cheesygri

As well from 3 more people; myself, my wife and my friend's accounts. None of us can transfer Amex point online recently. We used to able to do online transfers in the beginning of the year when we first got my Amex cards.
I called Amex, the CSR said the tech department aware of the problem , but there is no timeline as when it will be fixed. So, in the meantime, we need to call in to convert Amex points to Aeroplan points.

has anyone canceled (I just did after year 1) & successfully reapplied for the card with the promotion ?
I told them there were aspects of the card I liked, but not enough to pay for it.
I prefer CIBC AeroGold (which I already have), for several reasons:
1) no fee due to my CIBC Premier Service acct.
2) with Amex, I always have to have a secondary Visa card, since about 25% of my biz suplliers do not accept AMEX ( I actually used the Amex card for biz expenses, but I also found this to be the case whether the vendor was primarily biz or personal).
3) I can do a download in several accounting/spreadsheet formats for 16 months at Visa - only 6 months at Amex - since these are biz cards & hence expenses are tax writeoffs, this simple facility would be a nobrainer for those of us who do our books once a year at tax time. (Of course, I could try to remember to download Amex twice a year, so I grant this is a minor point.)
4) Visa gives bonus points for use at certain types of retailers.
I made all these points to Amex, but still no incentive offered to keep the card. I like it enough as a second "book-keeping"card that gives me AP points separate from the Visa(which I use for personal expenses). But I won't pay them a fee for it.

Doesnt applying for a credit card affect your credit rating? They do a credit check on you every time you apply for credit and it would be recorded in your credit history at Equifax.

I guess so. This will be my 10th credit card. I have always had an excellent credit rating though since I don't keep anything on my card. I never buy with cash, only cards and always pay off my cards right away, never overspend. A lot of people can't do that though.

Really, interesting - they were quite desperate to keep me. They offered me a GC, and/or membership rewards points - but I pointed out that cancelling and signing up to another AMEX product will net me a higher points/$ reward (and interestingly, the girl on the phone had the exact breakdown - how many points/$ you get for the first year, how many for following, etc - she even corrected me when I said it was 1.67, she said it was 1.85 or something), and finally she acquiesced to my argument that even if she offered me MR points, unless she were able to offer the initial sign-on bonus's worth, it wouldn't be worth it.

Definitely better cards out there. Example: CIBC Aerogold gold or black; costs less per year, has all of these features, additionally provides extended warranty, AND is accepted at more places. I'm sure someone can recommend an even cheaper card that offers similar features, I'm just too much of an Aeroplan mile ***** to open up my tunnel vision to other products :D

You can get travel insurance for $1.10/day, and car rental insurance is available on many free cards. Baggage delay insurance isn't really worth that much if you pack an appropriate carry-on, and hotel/rental/baggage loss should be covered under your home insurance.

Good question. If you find out, let me know (aside from the minimum annual income requirement). I don't think there's any real functional difference that matters.
Or (which is more likely) cause they just realised that EVERYONE is cancelling it :)
It offers free travel medical insurance for up to 15 days at a time, and it looks cooler

When I cancel my CIBC Aerogold 2 months ago, the rep told me I will be eligible for the bonus if later day I decide to reapply (but I think there might be a "cool down" period before you can do so).
there's no cooldown period for aerogold.
Last year, I cancelled and reapplied the next day. still got my 15000 bonus points.
The real question is whether anyone's done that with amex. Much better deal since there's no annual fee and you get 25000pts

FYI
Got the card last year, got my 25,000 points with no problems.
Called in December to cancel (2 months before end of 12th month). Asked them to send a cancelation letter --- which they did.
Today in the mail, I get a bill for $180 for annual fee.
WTF ?
Called the 800 #, guy says -- "card is still open, still valid". I say I have in my hand a letter from you dated December 17, 2009 cancelling the card and thanking me for my business.
He pushes some buttons, "click, click", ok thank you for calling American Express.
Moral of the story ---- when you call to cancel, request a letter stating the card is cancelled and staple it to your last bill, so if you get a $180 annual fee bill when it comes to the 12th month, you have the letter on hand to call them.

It will probably still work, just answer the questions correctly. I don't know why you'd bother making up a fake business name. Just use your own name as your business name. You can legally run your business under your own name without registering your name somewhere. If you choose some other name you have to have it registered (to actually operate, I dont think amex will really check but they technically could).

I got this card when it was first posted here on RFD over a year ago.
I am in the very small minority that kept the card, paid the renewal fees, because quite frankly, my wife and I like it.
I have a CIBC Gold Visa that I used for 10 years and put over 150,000 points on ($1 per point), and IMO the rewards are useless compared to the Amex.
I should add, I have never cashed in ANY rewards on either card, but did convert a larger amount of Amex points to Aeroplan earlier this year with that 25% promo that was on.
The only reason I have kept the CIBC was because it offered extra warranty for all the electronics I buy.
Well I got this in the mail today from Amex:
Your card is changing:
Announcing new complimentary benefits on your card (only listing what I consider beneficial to me):
Purchase Protection Plan
Buyer's Assurance Protection Plan
Purchase Protection Plan - Automatically (without registration) insures your eligible goods against accidental damage and theft
Buyer's Assurance Protection Plan - Automatically doubles the manufacturer's original warranty up to one additional year when you charge the full purchase price to your Card
Now I can cash in my 150,000 Visa points for a throw rug and coffee maker, cancel it (or downgrade it to a no fee one actually), and use only one card again.
This card just got a hell of a lot better IMO.

yes- I did this - no bonus points - took several calls to get the right answer from a senior CSR, but they track the individual as well as the company. The first 3 CSRs all told me various reasons why the points had yet to be awarded, but asserted that they would be. They were wrong.

I have that Gold card as well as Aeroplan (as well as AMEX)- but I don't pay a fee for either due to our banking arrangements with CIBC.
I use the Gold points for off-season air travel, since you can book any airline (except apparently AC) & apply the points to the ticket price. Better than using up AP points on a cheap ticket.
Another key reason I like the card is the 31 days out of country health insurance, which is extendable at a modest daily charge. very few cards have 31 days,AFAIK.
Biggest drawback to AMEX is the large number of retailers that don't accept it - even business suppliers.

We found that your SPG account is created by AMEX when they first transfer points. We had done the same as you (created our own acct), but then found that SPG had merged the 2 accounts & we had to phone in for the correct (AMEX- generated?) number & password. Starwood said we would receive the info by mail, but we never have.
It seems the points are credited once a month on your billing date, not as accumulated, as is the case with AMEX gold points.
They under-credited us on the first bill & we had to phone AMEX to have it corrected - & the correction will not show up until the 2nd bill.

When I applied and received the card, I had to spend the required amount of money within the 3 months, not sure if you have the same offer? Then the pts were applied to my onlin AMEX account. I then set it up to move them to Aeroplan miles.

Have had the card for a year and like it. I ran about $80k through it over the year. I called to cancel and the first offer was a $175 gift card against the $180 fee. Settled for $200 Home Depot card. Probably could have kept going a bit more but felt I had achieved my goal.

Never used it, just rolled the points over to aeroplan. From below if looks like a penny a point. Arguably a better deal than aeroplan if you use aeroplan points for non-AC travel.
1 Membership Rewards points can only be redeemed for a statement credit towards an eligible travel purchase charged to your Card. There is a minimum redemption requirement of 1,000 points for a $10 credit and redemptions must be made within 12 months after the travel purchase is posted to your account. Amex is one of those companies that doesn't fool around. When you call to cancel, they'll do it. They're not into playing games negotiating. You get what you pay for though. THeir customer service is top notch.

Does anyone know if Amex double checks the name of the aeroplan account holder to ensure it matches the amex card before transferring?

No annual fee the first year (normally $180/yr)
25,000 bonus Aeroplan miles (by spending $3000 over the first 3 months)
Travel accident insurance
Car rental theft & damage insurance
Flight & baggage delay insurance
Hotel/motel burglary insurance
Don't let the $1k spending over 3 months scare you. That's only $333/month for the first 3 months. Most of us spend way more than that every month. Small price to pay for 25k Aeroplan miles.

Okay, so I received this letter from American Express for the Gold Rewards Card ($150 annual fee card). The promotion is that they waive the $150 fee the 1st year and you can get a welcome bonus of 15,000 pts (Aeroplan equivalent) if you spend $500 in the first 3 months of card membership.
The question I have is if I can apply for the card, spend enough to get the welcome bonus and cancel the card before the 1 year is up so I wont get charged $150 annual fee for the 2nd year. Am I missing anything? Thanks.

I didnt get the annual fee waived, but I was offered a $150 gift card to a variety of retailers. I asked them to up it to $200 and they did. My annual spending was $57,000.
I opted for Home Depot. It essentially reduced my annual fee to $30 (I have a supplemental card). Not a bad deal. Next year I'll probably just cancel and reapply under another business to get the welcome bonus again.

Last year after my first year expired, I cancelled the Amex card and reapplied a few days later under another of my business names. The new account was opened with no annual fee for the first year including a spousal card, but they did no give me the 25,000 bonus Aeroplan miles the second time around as both business names are tied to my personal name and they could see that I had already recieved the aeroplan miles the first time around.
Fees waived was good enough for me.

Their damn address field seriously needs to be enlarged, I had to remove all the spaces in my address and it barely fit. Called the hotline, got a bilingual rep (judging from accent), she said that I had already been approved and card sent out.... even without the spaces, it should arrive due to the postal code being there.

For those of you collecting BA Miles, I just received a card in the mail from AMEX and from March 1 to 31 you can transfer your Membership Rewards 1:1 with BA Miles. It's usually 1000:750, so you'll get 25% more for this month, making it the same redemption as Aeroplan.

Anyways, applied and got approved instantly online. Didn't get asked any identity verification questions. I guess either AMEX losened their verification policy or my name was unique enough. Put my name as the company name and actually managed to come up with a pretty neat "business name printed on card" that suits me well. :) Waiting to see the card in the mail now. Will get a supplementary card for a girl friend as well. She's gonna help me reach that $3000 in 3 months anyways as I usually spend $900 a month (so a little short).

If you think you're going to be short, buy a gift card to somewhere that you know you'll end up shopping at (e.g. gas, grocery, etc.) and charge it to the AMEX. It's an easy way to hit the minimum.

I need some advice. I signed up for the Amex Gold about 2-3 months ago, primarily to get the 15k points it was offering assuming that you spent $1000 in the first 3 months. Bonus was that they waived your first year annual fee. So I got my 15k points now but am interested in taking advantage of the Business Gold Card now. My question is, do I have to cancel my regular gold card first and then wait a certain amount of time before I can apply for the business gold card OR can I just apply for the business gold card even though I already have a card? I think on the application I saw a question that asked if the applicant already has an AMEX card, I am just worried that they will deem me ineligible if I already have taken advantage of an Aeroplan offer only 2 months ago. Any help would be appreciated.

1. To qualify for the Welcome Bonus you must have at least $500 in net purchases posted to your account in your first 3 months of Card Membership. Account must be in good standing. Offer not available to existing American Express Gold Rewards Cardmembers. 15,000 Membership Rewards Points = 15,000 Aeroplan Miles. Enough for a short-haul round-trip ClassicFlight® Reward Seat in economy class within Canada, or to the continental US booked through Aeroplan (plus applicable fees and taxes). Seat availability is capacity controlled and is subject to seasonality of demand. See aeroplan.com for details.

I don't think so. This thread is about the business version, you've got the info for the consumer version. The business version used to be $1000 and is now $3000. AFAIK, the consumer version has been $500 for the last few months at least.

Not sure if this has been addressed before, but I was only at $1200 worth of purchases as of today, 3 weeks after receiving the card, and I have already been credited my 25k points! I was under the understanding that it was $3000 in the first 3 months, has that changed? Either way, I transferred the points out of American Express and over to my Aeroplan card right away just in case. Any insight?

I applied online last night for the Gold Reward card (not the Business). I got a message stating that they could not give me an instant decision and that I should hear from them within 10 days. Since I have an excellent credit history (in the low 800's), I decided to call them today. They said that I had already been approved financially but just wanted to ask me a few questions which Equifax asks them (personal questions of things only I would know) to confirm my identity. Once I answer them with her, she got the approval from Equifax and I was set.
I kidda like the fact that I had to go the extra step to get the credit.

Got my card yesterday and activated it. I had to provide my Aeroplan number for the second time so hopefully this one is now in my file.
Initially I was going to use it to buy appliances for our new place so I would have no problem spending $3K in 3 months to qualify for the bonus. A sales rep at Sears, however, can give us crazy deals + discounts if we use Sears credit card so I may have to check that out. We will see how it goes, i may just use the AMEX for everything from now on and put the MBNA SmartCash on the shelf for the next 3 months and hope to meet my target before then.

What is the $75 from GCR you are talking about?
I understand this card is free for the first year (normally $180)
2x the points on gas (not including US locations and Canadian Tire)
if you spend $3000 in 3 months ($1000 per month) you get 25,000 Aeroplan Miles?
You can cancel at any time after that (before renewal of 2nd year?)
Is there a certain link you need to apply from?

Seems to be $65 from GCR today and not $75......
Upon further investigation, you must go to the "Coupons and Sales Section" then go to "Credit Cards and Finance"
They have a link there for $75 until November 30.
As an FYI - After I applied, I was also told they would get back to me within 10 days. I called right away and they approved me on the phone and said I would be getting my card with in 7-10 business days.
Question though, I applied for this deal through the link on GCR and now have the tracking ID #. What do I do with this in order to get the $75 applied to GCR now that I got approved for the credit card? THANKS!!!

Did this deal in the last 3 months and got my points posted really soon after spending 3000$.
Worked well as usual, nice stuff, 25 000 points for spending 3000$ is a joke. Third time I am doing it in the last 2 years.
People cannot believe it when I share the news (but typically are too lazy to do it themselves, so the deal goes on and goes on again!!!).

However, the annual fee is the OUTRAGEOUS $500
Any knows if it's possible to get it waived for the first year?

Did this deal in the last 3 months and got my points posted really soon after spending 3000$.
Worked well as usual, nice stuff, 25 000 points for spending 3000$ is a joke. Third time I am doing it in the last 2 years.
People cannot believe it when I share the news (but typically are too lazy to do it themselves, so the deal goes on and goes on again!!!).
So you just cancel the card and reapply?

The fee is completely not outrageous for several reasons.
1. 50,000 points for $500 is 1 cent per mile. You can't find that kind of pricing anywhere.
2. The benefits given by the card are very worthwhile, and increase if you actually travel. Specifically: advance checkin on Air Canada, Maple Leaf Lounge access, and 15,000 point short-haul redemption (i.e. Montreal-New York) for TWO people instead of one.
Others too, like the concierge service (they got me a table at a pretty hard-to-get restaurant in New York in a pinch once) and the Fine Hotels & Resorts rates on hotels (which came out the same as my company rate, BUT I had $100 of food credit, suite upgrade and free breakfast) - not to mention Fairmont Platinum after 5 nights only, instead of 30.
Finally, if you have it for a year or two, you should be able to call in and get the regular Platinum card given to you for free. That gives you additional benefits: US airline lounge access, better brand recognition (if you show up to US hotels with the Aeroplan Platinum card, you may need to explain that you deserve an upgrade, whereas with the standard Platinum card you show it and you get it), and at least 25K Membership Rewards points for free - maybe 50K depending on promo - which can be 1.25x on transfer to Aeroplan during one of their promos.
So yeah..... $500 _seems_ like a lot in comparison, but is really not that bad in the long term.
Btw - the regular Gold card is worth getting right now. 15K points plus DOUBLE on grocery/gas/travel and free for year 1.

No way - just the lounge access alone costs significant amounts of money for the target consumer

ohh tks, i was on the u.s. website.. that's why i couldnt find it.
so the business give 25000 points and someone mention the regular one give 15000 + 2x points gas/grocery/travel ??
i couldn't find the regular card that give 15000 points.
i guess the 25000 is a much better deal, as you get 10000 more points and still get 1 point/dollar.
as for the regular, you will need to buy alot of gas/grocery/travel to breakeven

Sorry I am new at this, so if i apply for the Platinum card and spend $1000+ before 3 months end, I will received my 50,000 points to use right?
My second question is that I will be charged $499 for the first year, but what if I cancelled my card after 4 months or using it, will the $499 be waived and will do I need to use my points before I cancel my card?

If yes, then when that Personal Gold card was expiring, did you reapply for the Business Gold card again?
Thanks for any info. :)

As long as you have decent credit, you can have multiple AMEX products. Each card - especially across lines (ie business/Aeroplan/personal) is considered a "different" card so you can get it ... but even within a line you can have more than one (so you can have a charge Platinum and a charge Gold with no issues).

Even if it wasn't Amex, I would find it unlikely to be fraud since they know your name, company name and the fact that you applied for an Amex. So they already have more info on you than they need.
That said - no, it's not fraud - Amex DOES call you and check. It's more of a courtesy call, though. They don't really want anything from you - just to confirm you exist.

If it happens again, then get the identification from them the same way they ask you when you call to find out why the alerts are not working. Ask the rep company's DOB, SIN, address, phone number, mother's maiden name, codes on the card, security code, and all other information and then proceed to tell them that you do not have the information they are asking for. And that you will work on it. But first of all, get a phone and a machine that when they call, it will ask them to punch few dozen numbers to get to you and then play a nice music before you pick it up.

If you shop at Costco, then getting their cash cards would work for you and then you will be set for few months. Not sure where you are but prepay your cable/internet for a year. Again depending on your provider, car/auto insurance and security might be another consideration. Start a business, get the points and when it the business works out, make lots of money that will negate the need for the points in the future. Last suggestion was for fun as I was in the same situation and did just that.

Over the years, I've squandered so many opportunities to accumulate, by just just staring at the CC rebates, bonuses, rewards (free socks!?). First time for me too, via the GCR site, so I don't have answers to your questions, sorry.
My question is, does the $125 appear only after the card has been activated? Because I also applied a few days before the deal expired, and was approved on the 27th, but have yet to receive the card, and ergo I cannot activate it yet. Answers, anyone?
Question for you, riamo, why did you apply for both yourself and your wife, concurrently...I mean, I know you did it so that you can each get the $125 rebate and 25,000 points, but with the $3K spend requirement, would it not have been better to offset your applications by say half a year, so that you could both spend on the one card to ensure you get the $3K spend requirement?
I guess I just answered myself...you and your wife can probably both spend $3k each, easily in the same 3 month period, and you wanted to capitalize on the $125 rebate, which has expired and is now only a $75 rebate offer.
For my wife and I, it is fairly easy to get the $3K spending, but harder (less certain) for $6K spending in 3 months...so, we only applied for one card, and we're hoping the $125 rebate shows up again, say in half a year's time, and then she can apply.

I got approved last Thursday (May 3). So far no rebate from GCR. Is it normal?
They denied one of my rebates because I visited americanexpress.ca before going there, and the cookies made them consider I was NOT referred by gcr :( be careful to remove all cookies etc. Not that it helps in retrospect, but could provide an eventual explanation.

My wife applied it on April 29, she got approved once she finished the application from the computer, on May 1 she had the $125 showing on the GCR site.
She has not received her card yet, but I think the GCR will updated the rebate status once they know you get approved. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I tried to submit a missing rebate request, but GCR didn't allow me by saying: Please wait a minimun of 7 days after an item is shipped, an application is approved or a trip is completed. What scares me is the amex rebate is not showing up in the "waiting stage" on my account setting page.

Whats better……airmiles or Aeroplan? I have been considering switching for a little while now, since the whole AM expiration and devaluation..

It really depends... for car wash and cineplex 2for1 AM is really great, and for biz and first class tickets AE can't be beat.

Still no $125 rebate from GCR so far. I got approved May 3, 2012. Opened a missing rebate case. Let's see how it goes...
Anyone got approved on May 3 as well? Have you received the $125 rebate yet?

Sounds similar to my case.
GCR responded to my enquiry by email, and then directed me to a link to fill out another form with tracking ID and AMEX's confirmation number. However, GCR only review the cases at the start of the month, so will not hear back from them until June.

Yes, sorry about the mis-info in my previous post...GCR responds in 1 day...but it is AMEX that processes missing transactions once a month.
Here is the email I got from GCR:
Sorry about your missing transaction. You should have received your rebate by now.
Unfortunately, your approval never showed up in the reports from American Express Canada. This does happen occasionally. You get a rebate if the approval is in the reports they provide us. We can submit a missing transaction inquiry to them with information that identifies you and came from our GCR.
Note : the confirmation number you entered in email below is incorrect. It should look like this 20120893600308CAD
We will submit your information to American Express Canada. They will then process your missing transaction and report back to us.
American Express Canada processes all missing transactions manually once a month after the end of each month. We will submit your missing transaction information on June 1. American Express Canada should reply in the second half of June.
We will waive the 45 day wait once it is posted into your account.

does anyone know how the travel insurance coverage works? Ie, as a card holder, am I the only one covered? Or is it anyone in the same PNR as me? Or any travel booked using my card?

Just had to make a claim. They said even though it's a business card only you and your immediate family is covered. Kinda silly since its a business card if you ask me, but that is what I was told.

Ahhhh...was expecting to wait until June before I heard back from GCR about my $125 rebate, but I got a nice surprise in my inbox today.
Hello,
You are receiving this email because you recently submitted a missing rebate inquiry.
American Express Canada updated their software mid April. This caused tracking problems under certain situations. They fixed the problem and were able to collect the missed credit card orders that came from GCR. Today, they reported the missed orders. We processed those orders and posted the rebate for your Amex credit card into your account today. The post date is today. This closes the ticket you submitted for the missing rebate.

Ok, I've just wasted 20 minutes, flipping back through the pages of this thread, trying to find this answer...failed.
When does AMEX award the 25K bonus MR points? Do you have to hit the required spend ($3K in 3 months) first? And if so, how soon afterwards do the points show up? Days? Weeks? Months?
Thanks.

Wrong.... The moment you hit $3,000 in spending, the 25K amex points gets credited instantly which you can then convert to aeroplan straight away.

Thanks m_s! I also got a PM saying the same...the bonus points will appear within days of hitting the $3K spend requirement.
Next on the agenda...gotta do some heavy spending and get the bonus, so I can cash in on the current Aeroplan Conversion promo (http://www1.aeroplan.com/promotions/promotion_details.do?promotion=promo_webup2953_AE&icid=BAN4979)...deadline is June 18th.
