If you guys are wondering, I'm typing this on my desktop.

Well here's the story.
This morning I installed a couple of things onto my laptop (CS and Microsoft Office) and sometime around 4 pm the internet stopped working. I have been using wifi since I got it on Dec. 23 and it has been working perfectly until then.

When I tried to connect to a webpage, it just doesn't load. When I try to sign onto MSN Messenger, it doesn't sign in. My desktop also uses wifi and works perfectly. The connection on my laptop is 100% and seems as though I have internet connect but it still won't load! I have checked my network connections and everything seems fine.

I have already done a system restore and it still continues to not work. If it makes any difference, whenever I boot the laptop up now, I have one of those Windows pop-up notices telling me of an error.

I suspect that it may be the problem but basically it says that 'Internet Explorer has encourtered a problem and must close now' or somewhere along the line. The funny thing is that it happens right when I boot the laptop up, so I don't possibly know how I could have an error with 'Internet Explorer'.

If anybody has had the same problem and fixed it, please share your method. Thx!

Sounds kinda crazy. Try uninstalling CS and MICROSOFT OFFICE, rebooting and trying again. Also try taking out the power cord to the modem and plug it back in to reset it.

check your STARTUP folder to see if any programs run on startup that may be causing havok with your laptop. Also check out MSCONFIG. that will show programs that are configured to run at startup.

Nothing seems to be working at the moment..currently uninstalling Office and CS. MSCONFIG didn't work. I don't plan to do the modem thing because first of all, it's wifi, second, the wifi is working on my desktop (where I am typing from right now).

what does the status of your connection say? Limited or no connectivity? Double/Triple check your wireless password (assuming you use one...) and also Double/Triple check that you're connected to your wireless and not your neighbors.

Go to Run > CMD and type ipconfig. What comes up?

What happens when you connect via ethernet cable?

Chances are you probably installed a pirated copy of the said software. The installers/patches probably contained a trojan that tried to hijack IE.

You'll need to use a really good cleaner like malwarebytes which you can download a free legal copy here, http://www.malwarebytes.org/

I suspect your broser is hijacked.
Open a dos windows and see if you can ping anything.
If yes then use a USB drive to install firefox and download an anti malware program and scan your laptop.
If not then see if you have an IP address. Do you have other computers in the house? Can you see them in network places?
Do you have a firewall enabled? maybe it's fubared and blocking traffic but since you said IE crashes I suspect a hijack.

If you can answer back we'll take it from there.

check and see if zero wireless internet configuration service was turned off. You can find it in administration management.

As mentioned, try doing something like this:

1. Repair the connection by right clicking and going to repair

2. then go to MS DOS and do:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /renew

3. Restart computer

4. Do steps 1 and 2 if after the reboot it still doesn't work.
