Thanks, I actually need a new phone. Now I'll be able to toss out this old clunker I have kicking around from way back. http://**************/img/1856/y08m1110mhmd/2.gif

This is a great deal....came out during boxing day.
Panasonic phones are fantastic...and at this price I had to grab them.
Speakerphone function on all handsets.
Everyone can pick up a handset and talk at the same time, no need to "transfer" calls from one handset to another.
Unified options...ie. change the date on one handset, and it get propagated to the other phones....
Excellent clarity and volume!

I really like the Night Mode feature, where you can turn off the ringer during certain hours of the day (i.e. sleepy time). The shared phone book feature is also cool.
I'm mostly glad to finally get a good Panasonic phone. I had one ages ago that worked great until I dropped it 15 feet onto a tile floor. Since then I haven't had any luck with Panasonic phones wrt sound quality, but this one seems to be a keeper.

Granted it's not a DECT phone, but unless you live in a mansion or have many other devices operating at 5.8Ghz, this is a good package for the price. I have a wireless network in my home and haven't had any problems so far.

Considering a 3 handset Panasonic Dect6 is cheapest what? around $100?
Furthermore, unless you're really having serious reception issues due to conflicting electronics or you're really anal about security, then Dect6 isn't that much better either.
Marketing will always come up with something "newer and better" for people to upgrade.

Yeah and don't forget about potential health issues with DECT phones. Don't ask me if it's true or not, I am not a doctor, but why take the risk.
I bought this exact package from the source for 90$ :( I could have returned it (less than 30 days), unfortunately, there are no LD in eastern provinces, oh well.

I feel dumb now, I bought this from The Source for a little over a bill for my sister.
Got a panny from Staples plus coupons before they quickly got SOLD OUT, working well, and they didn't have DECT 6.0, sounds like some mosquito spray... :P
Site shows Sold out!

The way I see it, go big or don't go at all.
$60 is still $60. I'd gladly pay 40% more to get a much better phone.

This phone is TERRIBLE!
I bought it on Boxing Day and returned it a day later. There is a huge amount of background hiss to the point where it significantly impedes hearing the other person. I tried it on two phone lines, one of which was analog and the other VoIP. Same problem on both.

time for a dect 6.
I've had a lot of problems with 5.4ghz phones and as good as most panasonic phones are, they provide their share of static. Dect 6 or bust baby!

Bought the KXTG9333T Dect 6.0 from Sears last month for $80. Regular price was $149 on sale for $99 less $20 off coupon ( > $100 ). Used a filler item to put it over $100, socks for $2.
So far I'm not overly impressed with the phone, when I have an incoming call one of the unit's screen shuts off when it rings. Also if I want to make a call I press speaker phone on the unit and same thing the unit shuts off. I think I may return them if the problem doesn't go away. I had to lower the volume on the units because I seemed to be getting an echo whenever I was on the phone speaking in a certain location of the house. Also if I remove the Ni-MH batteries from the phone even with a full charge, the battery level shows empty and it wants me to charge it for 7 hours and it starts to annoyingly repeat this.
On the positive side, last night I was using the phone outside and there was zero interference and sounded the same as if I was inside the home.
My old phones were also Panasonic but 5.8ghz and Ni Cd batteries gave us many years of trouble free service, should have just bought new batteries for them instead:rolleyes:

I looked at all the phones on pre-Christmas and Boxing week sale and passed on them all for one reason or another, but in the end I broke down and bought the Panasonic KX-TG1034S refurbished set from XSCargo (DECT 6.0, 4 handsets, answering machine - $88). Usual caveats about XSCargo refurbs, but it seems to be fine (just one belt clip missing). Voice quality and speakerphone quality is good, range is adequate if not as good as some of my previous phones. The KX-TG103x handsets are taller than the other Panasonics and the buttons are bigger, but the keypad is not backlit. Aside from that the differences are minor.
All the Panasonic phones use trickle chargers, not smart chargers - they don't know if the battery is charged or not except for timing it, so they always want to charge for 7 hours if you change batteries in the handset.

Not sure what you mean. My 5.8Ghz phones say "Charge Completed" when they're done charging; doesn't sound like a timer to me.

Yes, they are all the same. It's a timer.
Try charging the batteries fully in an external NiMH charger, put them back in the phone - and they will charge for 7 hours, initially showing the minimum charge level on the display. Take them out, put them back in - and the phone will want to charge them for 7 hours again.

Ah, I found what you're referring to. They call it an "intermittent timer charge", but it doesn't seem to be a trickle charge like you thought.

Ideas?

While looking for the 5.8 GHz phone, came across a clearance bin with the 3 handset KX-TG1033C for $40. This unit has Dect 6.0 but had been restocked although it appears that it had not been opened.
Seemed to be a better deal, works well.

What potential health issues with DECT phones? I haven't even heard that "rumour" before. Any links?

Just google DECT and Health issues. However, there's conflicting reports, and as with new studies, it will be years before anyone knows anything for sure.
What is fact is that manufacturers have changed how the DECT base station operates and are no longer fully on and transmitting at full power, until a handset has been lifted.
Furthermore, most of these studies are based on the European frequency, which is slightly different than the North American frequency for DECT.
The main issue is basically the base station of DECT is operating like a high powered cell phone mast that is constantly on. I believe Germany was one of the first places in Europe (1990?) that stopped using DECT in schools. However, at that time, they also got rid of WLAN......so....I dunno what to think.

That's a fallacy in buying technology.
With that 40% you save this year, you can get a DECT phone later with the money you saved. Furthermore, one has to consider if DECT really provides "a much better phone".
It's like the HDTV issue.
When the price differences between 720p and 1080p were wider, people were spending $1000 more just for 1080p...which isn't even used, except for blu-ray.
A year later, one can purchase a 1080p TV for $1000. Thus in 2 years, one can either have 1 1080p TV.....or have 1 720p TV and a new 1080p TV.

Yes, they are supposed to be complete - but I weighed the hassle of trying to get the missing belt clip versus leaving well enough alone, and decided that I didn't really need that belt clip. :)
