I remember hearing stuff like that too, but it sometimes depends too on the highschool you go to and the courses you take.
For example a guy with all three U maths, bio, physics, chem with a 75% average would carry more weight than the guy with 82% and Data Management, Photography, Art, Drama, History etc...

Ryerson isn't all that competitive to get into; although a B+ grade doesn't leave a lot of leeway, there's a very good chance you'll get in.

Ryerson is raising the entry req. for the business program almost every year... it's not as easy as you think to get in anymore..
esp those who plans to go to York's Atkinson would probably choose Ryerson because of the strike...

True, things may be tougher next year - but in the end, people will still goto York because that's their only option.

well, ryerson is trying very hard to improve the business program..
a raise in admission standards is inevitable..

Going to York after the strike has ended is actually not a bad idea because there's statistically a low chance of it happening again within the next four years.

it's not the strike that's scaring people away.. it's the horrible management..the strike just shows how impotent the administration is

I'm not entirely convinced it's York's fault. If anything, I think the union has made a very VERY pathetic attempt at fixing the problem. By refusing to use binding arbitration, it's obvious that they know their demands are unreasonable. And even worse, they want an agreement that would allow them to strike again with other school unions. If anything, they're not trying to fix the problem, they're exacerbating it.

lol that just shows you have no idea whats going on, the uni(york) has been trying to get them to sign a 3 year deal and they arnt signing it because they want a 2 year deal that will give them the opportunity to strike again in 2010 when all the other TA Unions will renegotiate their contracts
so another strike in the next 2 years is very likely

even if they strike a 3 year deal, you'll still be affected in 2011

Back to topic of admissions... The admission average did indeed increase, my 2nd year in the program (first year was at york's Atkinson). I did not get accepted the first time with an 80% average from HS. Don't know why

Yeah trust me I had all my right credits or else I wouldn't be in the school right now, I was put on the waiting list and was never replied back by them. My buddy from the same school got a 76% did not get in either. It might depend on how many people are applying, luck and where you are on the pile. Lets pretend that the first 1000 students have the marks to get in and all accepted, then the left overs are probably on waiting list. Although a friend that got admitted with an 83 told me that he met people with low 70 and 60 were in the program while I was at York.
Weird I know.

First graduating class?! wowzer never seen that happen before. I went to Western Technical Commercial School. Nope my first choice was not Ryerson (That might be a criteria of why I didn't get accepted, but my friends didn't put it first either and they were accepted)
Good luck to you and hopefully to see you next fall!!

I was thinking to myself before I made the transfer, why I did... and also if York's BAS Honors is better than Ryerson's BComm. In the end... It is the same Sh** lol. Academic wise = same, profs = same (some snobs and some awsome), degree = same (just different name). It is what you put up into the school to determine what you come out with.
It just comes down to where you feel most comfortable, this to me was the travel commute. Since everything is the same except the commute and if I went to Ryerson, I would get an extra +1 benefit. :D
But I think I made the right choice, I consider myself lucky for leaving on time to miss out on the strike and not be affected by it lol. I like the Ryerson's business building environment, just a whole bunch of business students comparing to Atkinson you are scattered.

lol thanks for the response man, i am doing my well in my exams and i think my avg can be in the 85ish and i look at ryerson and york BAS program and the avg to get into that was higher so i was thinking is the program better or why is ryerson avg in 75-80 but then i did some research and understood but thanks again for input, if york can get a 4 year deal which i highly doubt i might as well go to york cause it closer to my home if not ryerson is my choice=D thanks again

Har? Was this last year? I received a final offer (non-conditional) around march break with a 74% average last year. A friend of mine received an offer as well with 66% with some sort of letter which I never asked about. I think it had something do with a medical condition or something, was too sensitive for me to inquire.
Eventually I bumped my average up to 89% and ended up going to York Atkinson instead.

They up the minimum acceptance to like 80 something now. B/c York and UofT students are flocking over.

Sept 2007 graduate, so two years ago. If York's Atkinson program is much more superior compared to Ryerson, then I would of been rejected from York itself. But somehow I was accepted  lol

Was BAS the program you applied to? I know they separate admissions for it based on the specialization you choose.
For example I know BAS Accounting has a 84% cut off, if you have lower than that, I believe they give you an alternative offer.
I realized this when my friend applied for BAS Management with 77% and they gave him BAS ITEC instead.

Odd, no idea then. Not even sure why Ryerson didn't give you an offer in the first place. These things never seem to be consistent.

Ahh shucks sorry to hear, you were trying to transfer from a different school or internal program? Yeah I successfully transferred into Ryerson:D, so my advice to OP is choose a school which he thinks will be most comfortable for him and if anything he can always transfer(But involves $ which sucks )

Oh nice, so it worked out in the end then :). No, this was actually during the admission period, they gave me pre-management so I was having them look over my application.
But yea, for OP, I think you should be fairly save for admission if you keep at least an 80% average.

Yup indeed it did, quite happy now :cheesygri. Oh yeah UofT Scarbrough, I applied to that and got in but for pre-management (Very tough program to stay in the management program hearing from some friends going there). So what is your next step if denied from management?

Lol, this was last year. At this point I'm at York now, was thinking of transferring to Rotman, but didn't have the require credits nor would I be able to apply in time because of the strike. So it looks like I'll be sticking with York for the time being.
