View Full Version : Students - early evening discount for ROGERS customers!

Jan 20th, 2009, 03:49 AM
I was reading over at Howard forums. Apparently if you're a student you can call in and get a early evening after 6pm free credit. It doesn't matter what kind of plan you have so long as your a student. All you have to do is call in and ask to have the msd code added to your account.

can anyone confirm? is this just a retentions perk (a hit or miss) or an actual deal?

It's true, I got the early 6pm yesterday. I was calling retentions for a new plan, and he said that they're offering all students early 6pm for free.

Has nothing to do with that., unless you're doing this in person. It has to do with the generosity of Rogers in this particular regard.
Those who are facing difficulty. Just politely ask the rep to verify the actual memo about this promotion before accepting defeat.
Those who are eligible for it, ARE. Plain and simple.

I have a retentions plan with:
200 Day Time
Unlimited Incoming
Network Calling
Evenings/Weekend 1000mins starting @ 6pm (after the phone call)
Smartphone Value Pack - fully credited
I think I'm missing some stuff, but that's the gist of it.
I pay $25 + SAF/taxes/911.
You can get this plan as long as you're a student, regardless of retentions plan or not.
People have had variable success with getting it added to their family plan.
Corporate plans are out of the question, unless you luck out.

i'm gonna try calling tmr, but if anyone knows, plz reply! thanks :)You should be fine. My university child got the early evening credit and my high school child does not. Credit does not tie to the early evening. It says "Monthly plan credit". It is not like caller id credit. It does not go away if you cancel the early evening.
Last week, I added the $30 500MB VP with $10 credit. I canceled the early evening and the $5 credit stays. The 500MB VP plan costs only $15 after the credits. Therefore, try to get it whether you need it or not. It would come handy in the future. Now, I need to get early evening credit for high school child! I will try bubble.tea advice to ask CSR to look up the memo.

I think it all depends on the rep you talk to. I was able to get the student discount for early evenings at 6pm and the $5 credit towards a value pack for all three lines on my family plan - even though only two of the three lines are used by students. I would just try again.

Hmmm, I have the EPP or Insider's Plan which is 250 min + 6PM early evening. This may be a stupid question but does my plan already have an MSD code?
I'm assuming yes, because of the free after 6PM. I wouldn't have minded the $5 off on value packs though.

Try retentions. I called the regular CSR's and they said my sister needed a student plan but when I tried back two days later calling into retentions (just say cancel at the voice prompt) I got this really knowledgeable guy. Gave it to me within a couple of minutes after he verified it was still available.

No, this does not renew your contract for another 3 years. Just call, say you want the free after 6pm code for students on your account. Give them your ID and school you go to and your done!
To verify, log into your.rogers.com and check to see if they have added it. It will say something like this.

I originally had just a normal plan that I signed up for on there website a couple years ago, a flat 200 minutes for $20. Unfortunately the rep was unable to add the free calling after 6pm to be used with this plan, as he said it was not compatible. So instead he offered me a student plan which comes out to $5 more, so $25 total, includes free calling, text and picture messaging to ten people, 100 weekday minutes, 500 incoming minutes, 1000 weeknight and of course the free after 6pm.
This deal definitely adds more value than my original plan. Except that I barely use my phone and never go over the 200 minutes. I decided not to bother paying an extra $5 to switch it.

I just applied to my family plan cellphone and all of a sudden, some additional services are going to be removed next month. Hi, so i called in last month to inquire about this 6pm student credit. I spoke with two reps (1 in billing, 1 in data) on two separate occasions and i was told since i'm a student i would be able to get $7 credited back towards the early evening option.
Well they confirmed it was done, however i just got my new bill and it shows no indication of a student credit. I called and spoke with customer relations this time, and the lady told me the credit is only applicable on the two student plans that they have. She tried her best to look for any other codes that may have worked but to no avail.
However, i was transferred over the the business department later and after speaking with the gentleman he said he would be able to offer it to me but ONLY on a 3 year renewal! SO... this makes me think it's not a "plan limitation" since he was able to offer it IF he was able to lock me in for another whopping 1000 days!! (i.e.3 years)
Has anyone actually received the 6pm early evening credit without renewing, and as a general feature-specific credit(i.e. NOT just credit given as a monthly plan credit) and not related to the student promotion?
thanks

Just renegociated with Retensions back on Feb 10th and rep added the credit to my account. I already had 6pm E/W and for some reason he added 5pm E/W to my account and credited the full amount. It shows up as 6pm Eve. Student Discount. The thing is though I was already paying less than the 6pm upgrade option cost from my last retension deal. My bill is a bit different though in the sense that the Voice part of my plan is very heavily discounted and the data part has less credits. My first bill was much less than we talked about on the phone with retensions so well have to wait and see what comes next month.

I can't promise your contract won't get renewed but my contract end date hasn't changed.
Best to have the website up so you can reference it if they give you a hard time. Remember though... it has to be IN MARKET and no retention plans

Similar to you asdisme, when i checked online mine didn't show the 6pm credit description that moxy had either (so that's why i was worried the whole time, only to find out it truly wasn't on my next bill).
Well if your end date remained the same moxy, then i suppose it's safe to say that they didn't renew the contract for you.
Well i wasn't aware that it only applies for in-market plans, however luckily i am on one - the Megatime $25.
I may try calling again later and talking to regular customer service to see if i can get lucky.

i don't know if it's the same in your situation, but in my case i thought i had successfully added the 6pm credit and only to realize in my subsequent bill that there was no credit at all.
I had the 6pm early evening feature already on my plan prior to inquiring about the student credit, so i was paying $7 already anyway. However, if you didn't have the 6pm evening option and then asked them to apply the student credit, i'm not sure if it would just show up as an EXTRA $7 charge for the feature (and no credit).

You should be able to get the 6pm credit no problem since you have a student plan - that is if you do have a student plan, judging by the My10 you have.
You're paying for call display separately? I know they give out credits for it, but i think most people have it bundled in with the value packs already thus not being eligible for that specific feature credit. So in your case i would assume you CAN get it...just a matter of convincing them to add it onto your account somehow.

Did your bill specifically have a 6pm early evening student credit on it? or did they apply "monthly plan credits"?
Also, how much more did they credit anyway if you don't mind... curious as to their approach towards crediting it.

Ahh i see, so they didn't specifically give you the 6pm evening student credit then? I was hoping to hear that you did, rather than have the credits for the 6pm option tie up some of your monthly plan credits.
Anyway, good job on getting it though!

I was on a 1 year contract.
When I added the student promo , they extended my contract to 3 years.
Before signing up for the promo, I confirmed with the CSR that everything including the length of the contract would remain the same. However I was mislead.
Just a heads up for everyone. 3 year contract = no good for me

But the thing is this $7 6pm student discount is supposedly applicable to ALL plans (i.e. not just the two student plans), but they apparently want you to renew for 3 years before giving it out.
Thus if it's available to "any" plan on a 3 year, then i don't see why it's not possible to apply it to a 1 year - i feel they just want to use it as leverage to get more 3 year contracts this way.

That's something i've never understood either... assuming most people renew over the phone, there's no actual documentation that states the length of your existing contract.
I know the discounts section on My Wireless Services online shows the expiry dates of the credits, but that's the only mention of any dates.
Anybody know about contract end dates?

I called in just a couple minutes ago and a CSR confirmed this. However I had to move my contract under my own name (now it's consolidated in one bill for all the services in my house and my family).
My contract expires in a month so I'll see what I can get from retentions then.

Just on the phone with Rogers right now! The lady has no idea what I'm even talking about, she keeps asking me if I'm on a student plan. I have a corporate plan, 2 phone lines. She just said that she will leave a note on the account but i have to go down to the store and get the Early evenings or $5 credit.
So basically, if they can't add the early evenings then you get the credit.
Get back to you after i visit the Rogers store. :)

That's the thing... it appears that a lot of reps claim the student credit that's specific for the 6pm early evening (i.e. NOT just a monthly plan credit) can ONLY be applied on the student plans Rogers has.
They may end up giving you just a $5 generic monthly plan credit, but the issue with that is it counts towards your allowed maximum monthly plan credits, thus reducing your potential discounts.

Hi,
I called Rogers another 2 times. 1st guy said that the promo expired last year. But the last guy said that he had no idea what i was talking about, these reps are really clueless. However, he did leave a note on my account saying that if i call back with the 'Promotion #' the next rep would add it no questions asked. I spent almost an hour on the phone, can someone please call Rogers if they have gotten the $5 off and get me the promo #.
This would be really helpful, thanks! :)

She was nice and that credit is really gonna help, but I'm a student with no job and would really like the 6pm evenings free. So I'm going to call again tomorrow and see what happens.

I just noticed in my online services that the discount line which shows this early evening credit doesn't appear to resemble the 6pm student discount everyone else has mentioned.
Instead of the "6 pm Eve Student Discount" or however it is, i have "Monthly Fee Credit 1 year." (i.e. NOT a "monthly plan credit")
Has anybody else seen this or currently have it on theirs as well and know if it's actually referring to the student credit or in fact some other credit?

I have a family plan (I've got about 1.5 years left in a 3 year contract) so the rep told me that I would have to remove myself from the family plan and get another plan that is approved for the Student Overlay ("PLUS – Get the Student Overlay with any Rogers in-market plan (3 year term only)"). He was helpful since he tried to offer me the "best" option with one of their current family plans with a few more features such as SMS and early evenings starting at 6 pm for $5 additional dollars a month. I wasn't successful :(

You might, just ensure your retention plan still has the monthly credits to spare (don't go over or you'll get audited) or make sure your account does not have any code associated to the account, only one code per account so if you're on a Corporate plan, I think you won't be able to get it.

I've read through the last three pages, and I think I understand what's going on for the most part. Just a few questions before I do this:
i) This deal still applies as of May 31st, right? Or at least May 28th, according to IceQue (just looking to reaffirm)
ii) Do I speak to Customer Service or Retentions?
iii) I don't really understand why Rogers would say that they're only offering the credit to people with Student Plans. Don't the Student Plans come with the 6:00pm early evenings credit anyway? Or is that just mine? I have the My10 Plan, with 100 anytime, 400 incoming, and 1000 Evening/Weekends, contract started September '08.
iv) I'm looking to add Call Display too, but without Name Display or Whocalled. Do you think it's possible to get the best of both worlds and receive some sort of credit and call display?
Thanks.

Doubtful for Pay As You Go but if the rep gives you a hard time just tell them to go to the main site and then Wireless and Offers of the Day (or promotion). From there tell them to go into the Student Offers and then you can point out where it says "A student can activate on any eligible Rogers in-market plan and get 6 PM early evening calling"
That way they can't argue with you or give you a hard time.

I just switched to the $20 for 200 minutes EPP plan which includes free weekends and evenings starting at 9 pm. What I would like to know as well is if this current EPP plan is eligible for the student discount so I can get the free evenings to start much earlier. I just called in trying to add the student discount but got rejected saying that because I have the EPP plan I am not able to add the extra student discount. Is this true? I thought the EPP plan was considered an in-market plan, and the offer clearly states that the student discount can be added to any in-market plan. Should I keep calling back wasting my time with them trying to get this student discount?

Sorry, what does EPP stand for? If it's a retention plan then no, it's not considered "in market".

EPP- Employee price plan. Definitely not a retentions plan.

Do they still have this? I switched plans recently and noticed the bastards took it away...
EDIT: They still have this. Although I had to do it through retentions, although I suspect that's just because regular customer service reps are incompetent.

if your a student you can just go into a Rogers store....the employee has to call up and verify ur student number (ie, u have to show the student card)

does this freebie still exist? or is it not available anymore because there are new student plans for 2010?

i called in today to get it and they added the 6pm early eve/weekend for me, although i dont have free evenings so for me it only applies to early weekends....But they did not give me 5 dollars off a value pack as they say that only applies to the new student plans, i did not get any other freebies but the 6pm thing. So yes they still have this only asked me where i went to school did not call to verify or ask for student number.

This deal is expired and better lock up the thread to avoid more confusion.
I just called in and the representative said that this is not offered anymore and suggested that I look to signing up a new contract under the student plans they are promoting right now.
So good luck!
