Best Buy 23-29 Jan 2009 Weekly Ad/Flyer shows NuStart NUS1500F $149 for basic one-way Remote Starter w/Installation included. Does NOT show up on BB website even if you search the code.

Geek Squad Car Starter with 3000' Range
WebID: 10108066
Price: $149.00 IN-STORE
Price includes installation.

Is this any good and reliable? Can you advise any other brands and where do i get them installed? Would some local shop be better? I have a civic and would like a reliable starter with security.

Pretty normal price for remote starters IMO. Check with BB to see how much is the actual install charge for your car. My car has factory installed security + immobilzer system and Bb would charge $200 extra as they will need to install more hardware to bypass the factory installed system.

polypep is right, I had the same experience at Future Shop. Pretty much any car these days is going to require extra labour and parts. I went in when the Viper units were on for 179.99. Total price ended up being 485... so I bailed. For 500 bucks I can go outside and start my car :)

How do these affect the long term reliability of your vehicle? Read a piece in the Star a few weeks back about how these are particularly bad for the cat. converters in most vehicles.

I never idle my car for more than a couple of minutes, that too only if the car is extremely cold.

In the summer time by the time the rpm needle drops from turning the engine over, I'm already on the road.

100% agree !
