View Full Version : UFC 94 - My disgust with Rogers...

A bit of a rant, so here we go...

I had about 10 buddies over to watch the fight last night. It was around 9:30, half and hour before the fight, and we're just chillin, drinking some beers, eating pizza, and waiting for the fight to start.

It's 9:55, and we purchase the UFC 94 fight for $54.99 on Pay Per View. It says our show will start in 5 minutes. Everything's perfect.

It hits 10:00, and everyone's super stoked. All of a sudden, there was a red screen that came up saying there is an error with your PPV order, and you have to call Rogers to fix this.

Everyone freaks out. We call Rogers. On hold for 5 minutes. Constantly trying to fix the HDPVR, resetting it, unplugging it, purchasing the fight in standard definition. Nothing works.

On hold for 15 minutes now. Everyone is getting pissed off. We're missing some good pre-fights now. Still no answer from Rogers. They really need to change their freaking hold music.

Finally, after FORTY FIVE minutes of being on hold with them, they answer. I explain to them very calmly (yeah right) why the fight's not working for almost an hour. They say there was a network problem that affected everyone ordering this fight. I laugh really hard and say "for a company as big as Rogers you can't set your systems up to allow ppl to watch this? Good job". I then ask if they're going to refund the PPV price of $54.99 because we missed almost an hour of the show. He said we can only give a one time TEN DOLLAR discount. I thought he was joking. I told him that we were long time Rogers customers and spend roughly $1000 a month on wireless, cable, and internet. He says it's out of his hands. I told him I'm going to cancel all my services tomorrow for ruining something that I had planned for a couple of weeks. Good night.

So the fight was AWESOME, but that experience was a killjoy.

I called Rogers to cancel everything this morning, and the guy was extremely nice and understanding. This is what he offered:

- $54.99 PPV fee waived
- Specialty channels (200-300 or something) for free for six months ($41.99 value)
- HD channels free for six months (channels 500-541)
- a 10 dollar credit EVERY month for as long as we stay with Rogers

I told him thank you very much, and I will not be cancelling Rogers because of you. This is an example of exceptional customer service (guy #2). I'm pretty sure if I bothered him more, I could have got more out of him, but I didn't wanna push it.

This happened at my friend's place as well when we were all over to catch the Couture/Lesnar fight. Everyone was pumped up with drinks, food, trash talking, lot of fun, etc.

The bad part was we could even get to a Rogers representative or get the connection to watch the UFC event. We gave up and drove two cars to the local sports bar to arrive just in time to catch the main event. The viewing was **** as by then everyone was huddled around the screen.

See we were thinking of doing that too. But then we waited only for five more minutes and FINALLY they answered, and they said they just pressed a button on their computer and they fixed it. I can't believe that a company this big won't foresee the thousands of fans that watch UFC. Maybe Rogers should hire some RFD's to take over their marketing and promotions departments.

HAppened to my friend last night

Always have a backup...luckily, we used his laptop, hooked it up to his TV via HDMI, and we watched a livestream until we got the channel back...crappy quality, but didn't miss much thank goodness

I should tell him to call Rogers right now too, thanks for the info

I suggested the exact same thing, except we couldnt find a live stream. But tell your friend to call Rogers, and they'll waive the PPV fee. Just give them a hard time threatening to cancel Rogers.

Odd...same thing happened to me but with Bell Expressvu. Was trying to order the fight in HD from 930pm and finally got it working at 1045pm. I kept the rep on the phone bitching n complaining and wanted to speak to a supervisor about this issue.

Supervisor called me back at 12ish and got two UFC PPV for free. He told me that there were also many others that had the same problem so it might not be rogers/bell problem but something else ??

I found one, but the site went down with 23 seconds left in the 4th round, and never came back:cry:

OUCH!

Looks like it was an issue with the feed overall. So probably didn't matter which provider you had

We watched it on Shaw last night (in Alberta) and there was no glitches.

my buddy has told me the last couple of UFC PPV's have been problematic for rogers... one time he got 50% off for the PPV... UFC 93 we were lucky and didn't miss anything, after re-plugging the box...

this is another reason i don't mind watching it a day after it airs... i can play/pause, rewind, fast forward, etc... just i gotta stay away from almost everywhere they might post results :(

usually it should be the opposite in a recession... case in point, i actually get service in restaurants in calgary, instead of dumba$$, piss poor excuse for servers not too long ago...

that $10 a month credit for life is pretty hot. wish i knew the code hehe

sorry about your problems :( I've experienced the same, the converters they use have the worst attitude. I've gone through 5 HDPVRs that have failed or had issues of one kind or another. Two of them were full to max of taped shows :*(

I'm thinking of switching to Bell ExpressVu. And then switching my Sympatico to Rogers High Speed Internet. Lol both have crappy services.

OP, that's their standard retention incentive, if you talk long and loud enough with the cancellation rep.

Did you also ask to cut your cable bill in half and free HDPVR for a year?

They are both equally bad LOL
But if you push hard enough nicely, they might be able to offer you discounts.

Ordered the fight in the afternoon at around 4 pm. No problems.

I wish I had this issue since the first 3 fights were boring. I could have scored some good deals with Rogers like OP.
