My Belkin died today after 1+ years of use. I'm with Teksavvy and I know that Linksys WRT54GL is a good one but are there any new ones that can be flashed with Tomato?

I champion the WL520GU. I have the WRT54GL as well but it's easier to work with the Asus flashing.

Mmm Asus...they're not cheap but I trust the brand.

If you're not planning to flash to 3rd party firmware and just use stock firmware, Asus is the best. I'm running my Asus on stock firmware and it's been rock solid... can't say that for my Linksys routers that would disconnect 3 times a day, even when I did flash it to dd-wrt it had disconnecting problems. Will never buy Linksys again.

The WL520GU has been cheaper than the WRT54GL for some time now too.

the cheapest price for the wrt54gl was like 39.99 CAD and that was a while ago, but the support for it is just great

I'm using a WRT350N right now. Find it much more reliable than the WRT54GL.

Well in my case, this has been the first consumer router that I've found reliable. All of the ones I've used in the past (including the 54GL) frequently die and require a reboot, some more often than others.
My normal alternative was to use a computer, so this actually works out a lot cheaper for me :D

For normal home rooter, WRT54GL is the way to go.... not sure what firmware you were using but mine been running rocksolid without any disconnection or reboots needed since like 2 years.

Strangely enough my WRT350N was pretty unstable, so I sold it off to get a WRT54GL which is still pretty unstable, (But better than the WRT350N).
Might try an Asus in the near future..

No, the GL has problems with simutaneous uploading and downloading, leading to a noticable throughput decrease in overall download speeds. Running bittorrent means speed wont be optimal.
You can go google this. 3rd party firmware or official firmware doesnt fix this issue - it's likely a hardware issue.
They didnt find the same issues with the older wrt54g/gs routers. You cannot find a g/gs these days with enough ram to run the 3rd party firmware like tomato, so your best choice is probably to get a buffalo or the asus.

I have a G v4, so maybe the older versions aren't as prone to problems. The router does need a reset every few months or so, however, but I find it always happens when I'm downloading, uploading, and transferring files between computers simultaneously, so I blame it on myself.

I have a WRT54GL and it works quite well. As others have mentioned, the Asus WL-520GU looks to be pretty good. I've been needing another router and the Asus option looks to be a great one with support for both Tomato and DD-WRT firmware...not to mention it's cheaper than grabbing a WRT54GL.

Hmm.. guess I got lucky with mine then; had two (one in another house before) and both were fine.

Do you mind linking this? I can't seem to find it. Sounds worrying because I have 2 slave Asus WL520GU bridging to the main Linksys WRT54GL.

I currently have a WRT-54GL, but need a new router for the store.
I couldn't decide between the Asus WL520-GU or the WL-500W.
The 500W has 802.11N support, and a bittorrent client, but costs ~$120 right now vs $50-60 for the 520-GU.
Can anyone sway me one way or the other? Is the 500-W worth the extra money, even though it is older?

I have the wl-500w. I got it for $69 but the stupid asus rebate got rejected so it was $89 for me. Good router, but the signal is a bit weak for some reason. I live in a student area with dozens of wireless signals though.. so that might be why.

Is there anywhere right now, I can find a Tomato supporting router for under $50?
