horrible service, ordered from them took around 1 month before they call me and tell me one of the disk is not available. Then the lady said the money has been refund and nothing show on my credit card.

The customer service lady just rude when i called and said it showed up on their system but i keep telling her it's not showing up, she almost hang up on me and tell me to call later to a different rep. i just file a disbute through my CC and forget about this crap

on the other hand 13.99 is pretty good deal for a new movie, thanks op :cheesygri

lol... I've placed 3 orders so far and haven't gotten any of them yet, but i hear it's 3-6 week's for deliver ( IN CANADA ) terrible.... Anyway's my first shipment is currently at 10 bus. day's, then 5 day's for the last and placed an order tonight. Hopfully they start rolling in sometime soon since I've purchased movie's from England last week and got them already.

When I placed an order in January, it took 15 business days. For some reason orders from Eastern Canada to Western Canada seem to take forever. Orders from SIG, Inetvideo, and CHCanada, have taken anywhere from two to three weeks to arrive, except for orders from amazon.

Thanks OP, just ordered Madagascar 2. Great price for a new movie, and Blu Ray is meant for digital animation!

I recently signed up with the "new" CH and ordered Kung Fu Panda for $13.99 too. Received it in about 2-3 weeks. Not too bad.

This completes my 2 disc order that I have to fulfill for my membership.

I currently have a Blu-ray membership through http://www.columbiahousecanada.com so what is the difference between that and this new chcanada.com ??? I can't even seem to login with my existing login and password into this new site - are they not interconnected?

peterhefer1

They are not interconnected, Your passwords or memberships have nothing to do with CHCanada.com, Although they are the same company technically, They are a seperate entity.

They are not interconnected, Your passwords or memberships have nothing to do with CHCanada.com, Although they are the same company technically, They are a seperate entity.Yeah, I think chcanada is a web only way of getting DVD's. You won't find them mailing flyers to your house like the regular Columbia House.

Feb 6th, 2009, 08:22 AM
If they aren't interconnected then how would buying from the one be a credit on the other. Just saying if I commit to buying from Futureshop how do I get credit if I decide to buy from Best Buy.

If they aren't interconnected then how would buying from the one be a credit on the other. Just saying if I commit to buying from Futureshop how do I get credit if I decide to buy from Best Buy.

Buying movies from CHCanada.com wouldn't in any way be considered a credit towards a membership with ColumbiahousCanada.com and vice-versa.

Again CHcanada.com is a seperate company, both are owned by the same people.... neither have anything to do with each other.

CHCanada.com you have to buy 2 movie's a year for $5.99 and up that's it.

Columbiahouse.com you have to buy a lot more movie's at their tier pricing, but you get the so many movie's for .99cents or whatever when you join.

I won't say either website is better than the other, I personally prefer the nearly no commitment of CHcanada.com, I completed mine in the first order and have since placed two more orders, I also prefer the lack of mail-outs and crap, to me CHcanada.com is a lot like dealing with Amazon etc.

Is there any way to find out when your order ships? I got the email confirming my order and at the bottom it says (if ordered after 2pm your order will ship next business day) but that's it... It's only been a few days so I'm not worried but it sure would be nice to know for sure when they actually shipped my items out.

Nope .. no way to tell unless you call them a day or so after your order to find out if it has shipped and when.

I had initially ordered Kung Fu Panda and Babylon A.D. .. both shipped and arrived in a timely manner. Then I ordered Madagascar 2 and received it in a approx a week or so. Not bad imho.

I agree though .. there should be an email advising of shipment so you know when to expect your parcel/package.

You can use the promo code bogo for a free DVD (no Blu-rays) from a limited selection when you purchase any other title. The options are:

The Da Vinci Code(2006) Special Edition
The Break-Up
Superman Returns
Mission: Impossible 3
Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby Unrated; Uncut
Gridiron Gang (2006)
Casino Royale (2006) Special Edition
Open Season Special Edition
The Pursuit of Happyness
The Departed
Dreamgirls (2006)
Happy Feet
Surf's Up (2007) Special Edition
Blades of Glory
Shrek the Third
Knocked Up (Unrated)
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Transformers (2007)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Full)
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Brave One(2007)
Bee Movie
American Gangster Unrated Extended Edition
I Am Legend (2007)
Juno
Charlie Wilson's War
The Bucket List
The Spiderwick Chronicles
WEDDING CRASHERS UNCORKED EDITION PLATINUM SERIES

You still have to pay the $1.99 shipping on the free item, but it's still not a bad deal. If you order a $13.99 Blu-ray and add in the free DVD, the total with GST and shipping comes to just under $20.

I agree. I guess this is where they cut costs but, one of my movies was damaged due to poor packaging. I ordered Pineapple Express and the disc inside the case was loose. I sent it back for a replacement since I'm sure it was scratched.

Still cost me $2 to ship back. A pain in the butt.

At least I got my movies pretty fast and my visa was credited 1 week after I returned it. Can't complain about the quick service, just the poor packaging.

Yeah. I may be a Blu Ray newbie but I do know they are more resist to scratches.
I just didn't want to take a chance since it wasn't packed tight in the first place and who knows how this was handled by Canada Post or how long this disc was loose in there.

That's a bad tactic. They've lost my business then. I usually take advantage of the Tuesday sales, and I'm not willing to gamble that "maybe" later (in 2 weeks) they'll put it on sale. Too bad for them. Bought QoS locally for $23.99 .... won't lose sleep over that.

People looking for Quantum and RockNRolla (or other recent stuff) should consider the Roger's PV'd blu-rays 2 for $30 that is still on until the 18th - used but you get it now for pretty much the same price.

Not seeing the Slumdog Millionaire for 13.99. I do see the CD sountrack for the movie for 13.99.

Marley and me is an awesome price. I paid 24$ from chcanada a week ago.

Strange, I don't even see it on the site now. I found it by filtering by blu-ray and increasing price, so unless they had the CD under blu-ray erroneously, which I am pretty sure they didn't, it must have been taken down for some reason.

I also saw Slumdog on Blu Ray for $13.99 a couple of hours ago. I was about to buy it, but talked myself out of it.

I just checked now, I don't see it either. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they put discs on sale until they're OOS, then they pull them off of the website so people aren't on backorder for the disc and complain and grumble to "Roberta".

I ordered Babylon A.D. and Incredible Hulk from them in January and waited probably 2 weeks...which was a reasonable amount of time for me. Next time I ordered Pride & Glory and waited a month.

Same thing, they billed me and then didn't send it, so I contacted them through email and they were extremely rude and cocky. I told them I spoke to a rep online first (which was Roberta) and Roberta told me it was OOS, yet I was billed, and they don't unbill. So when I sent an email and told the rep this, the first thing they came back with was, "Well first of all, you did not "Speak" to a rep, as Roberta is online and you were not on the phone with her, secondly, we do not give refunds, and you will be sent the item when it is in stock. We do not give a set date as it may take months to become in stock".

I was royally pissed with the poor customer service, and wrote a letter back telling them how disguisted I was with their crap customer service, but I never received a reply from that. I didn't expect to. I find lately it's just easier to buy the movie used at BBV, as I always seem to have coupons for $2 or $5 off used movies, and it works out to the same cost as CH, except the disc is used...but if it means I can get a new disc at the same price, but have to deal with rude CSR's and not get it for months, then I think I'll go to BBV.

I've had them send me the shipping confirmation before, and checked a week later with the online rep about the status, and they told me they didn't send out the blu ray because it was out of stock. I asked them why they sent me a shipping confirmation email and she couldn't give me an answer to it.

My understanding is that the reason for there being "limited" selection in Blu-ray is actually a function of warehouse space...

I'd say this is a way to burn off some unwanted stock. I mean look at the titles: V for Vendetta Fullscreen, Goldmember, Spongebob Movie Fullscreen; People either wouldn't want them or already have 'em.

Bring it on! Let the millions of people who don't own Blu-ray scoff them up! Make more room for BDs!! :cheesygri Eventually, sales of those titles will slow and THEY'LL go on sale! Then you and I can buy 'em!:D

Yes. It seems you need to be logged in for the selection boxes to show up. If you log in AFTER you go to your cart, make sure you back out of the process to the initial cart screen. You should see: " Your promo code is: 5001 - 2 free DVDs" (or something like that). If you're not logged in, it just says "Your promo code is: 5001"

Also, you must have a cart total $19.98 or more.

I had hoped these would be new, upcoming titles... but I think everything on the list has been $13.99 already. Definitely remember Princess Bride and Memento for that price in the last two months... probably Unforgiven, too. I bought No Country for $8.99 at Wal Mart a while ago (when they also had Shoot 'Em Up for that price), so no thanks on that. :)

This is the Cine et cie (French CH Canada) site, so maybe they have their own free shipping promo at the moment? Just like they may not have had free shipping last week like their English sister site did. They certainly have some different $13.99 titles (but only ten, half what the English site has).

CHCanada extended the free-shipping promo to the French site last week -- at the request of users over at blu-ray.com; hopefully, it will be an ongoing share-and-share-alike thing.

The other "big" title available there and not on CHCanada.com is "Forrest Gump".

It's still there. Click the blu-ray link and do a sort by ascending price; it's on the first page. The other $13.99 title I immediately don't recognize from CH Canada is Hunt For Red October, but that's a near-regular price for that title.

I assume that's the new "Available For Pre-Order" list, not the actual new titles coming out because both IG and J&J came out in mid-August.

Mind you, the turnaround period for DVDs is getting shorter and shorter. I read an article the other day where theatre owners were complaining about this when GI Joe's release date was announced.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is actually the only "new" one on the list, even though they've updated most of titles (as they apparently do the first week of every month). Many of the others were previously available as one-week specials in the last few months (I picked up Day --which includes the original 1951 film as a third blu ray -- and Taken the last time they were $13.99).

$13.99 by the start of January, sure -- I'd be surprised if it wasn't a special sale item by February. But $13.99 as the pre-order price, when it's already been $23.99 on their site for months (which is lower than average)? And they stand to rake in the most dough from it the first week? Hey ishagi, it's great that you've taken ownership of the official thread for CHcanada, but as the official thread, can you update your first post with the most updated info?

As of posting right now, your list is out of date, and there's no mention to any of the promo codes as well...

Nah, I'm not that responsible. Since this was the first RFD thread regarding CHCanada, and since many have noted that there are too many random postings now, then I was hoping we'd agree to just update this one for BR $13.99 deals. If you want the latest deal, then just read the LAST PAGE. :)

$13.99 by the start of January, sure -- I'd be surprised if it wasn't a special sale item by February. But $13.99 as the pre-order price, when it's already been $23.99 on their site for months (which is lower than average)? And they stand to rake in the most dough from it the first week? Not a chance. :| Would love to be proven wrong, though! :D

I don't know i have been seeing a lot of new titles go for 13.99. I wonder if any of the CHC employees can see if star trek is gonna be 14 bucks in 2009 :).

It'll still be the cheapest for at least six weeks. :D I'd be really surprised if this isn't one of the $13.99 specials by January, though (and really, really surprised if it goes down to that price before then -- forget the free shipping, I'd pay the $1.99).

We are focusing our energy on our "french" canadian site next week, as there are some great titles that will be offered in our $13.99 BR rotation over there. Please keep in mind that although it's a french site, all of the movies offered actually come dubbed in ENGLISH and FRENCH, you just have to select your language. Plus, we will also offer FREE SHIPPING on that site only on orders of $19.99 or more, from 12 noon on Monday, Nov 30th - 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec 1st EST. The two new BR titles that will be offered for $13.99 on CineEtCie.ca are:

I could have gotten this used at BBV but it was only the single disc. I'm waiting for a price like this for the 2-disc version.

Thanks.

I just bought some titles yesterday and the Previously Viewed Blu-Ray sale is:
Buy 2, Get 20% Off
Buy 3, Get 30% Off
So, if you buy 3 $16.99 titles, they'd work out to $11.89 + tax each....or do what I did and use 10 Star Rewards points towards one of the 3 titles and they work out to be $8.56 + tax each! The most expensive PV Blu-Ray title I saw was $24.99, but the majority were $16.99 (I saw $16.99, $21.99 and $24.99 price points).

My total (taxes in) was $28.76 for "Push", "Inkheart" and "Witless Protection", that's $9.59 each!

Hmmm yeah the titles you got can not compare vs the titles ch offers. Push vs transformers rotf......... rather pay 14 bucks for transformers.

Hey There,

Sometimes the product costs of a movie are more expensive through CHCanada then they are through CineEtCie, which is why you may see some titles offered on CineEtCie, but not on CHCanada. Especially when it comes to newer titles or titles that are on high demand. But trust me when I say, if we could, we definitely would!!!

Also, CHCanada and CineEtCie are two separate sites and membership on each one is required, BUT please keep in mind that if you decide to also join CineEtCie, it is still only a commitment to purchase 2 movies at ANY PRICE POINT before you can cancel, so if you join and pick up 2 movies right off the bat, then you are done and can cancel! Easy Peasy;)

I have ordered from Cineetcie before (Braveheart and Gladiator) and the ones I got are EXACTLY THE SAME as the ones I would have bought in Walmart or Futureshop here in Canada -- meaning the covers have English with some French on them. The cover thumbnail will show you what you are ordering; if its the regular bilingual "Canadian" cover, you'll see it on the image (enlarge it to make sure). Be warned! Some of the covers are French-only!

I've since ordered BIG, Benjamin Button and Polar Express 3D.

Some titles stay at the 13.99 price for more than one week but most recent and sought after titles won't. If I were you I would order basterd this week (pay the shipping if you only order this one, if you buy 2 titles shipping is free look for the promo code in this thread) . I'm sure it will be 13.99 only this week.
You will wait 1-2 week to get your BR by regular mail. CHcanada has been good to me on a lot of titles, 13.99 is a nice price for pretty recent titles.

G.I. Joe from Cineetcie is still back order. I've email them a couple of days about it.

But for some reason, Public Enemies was ship to me 1 day after I placed the order.

Anyway if this is the price to pay to have cheap Blu-Ray I don't mind. And sometimes when I buy a movie, it may take up to 6 month before I unpack it and watch it.

Still hoping for district 9 and hangover both next week pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon. CH's history is that 6 weeks after a movie has been released, that is when they'll drop it to $13.99. Last week (Jan 25-26) it was Inglorious Basterds which came out December 15th. This week it's TPB: Countdown to Liquor Day (which came out Dec. 22nd).

The Hangover came out December 15th (so if it were to be $13.99 it would have been last week with IB), and this week would have been District 9 (since it came out Dec. 22nd with TPB).

Maybe in the future they'll put it down to $13.99...but I highly doubt it'll be anytime soon basing it on their history with $13.99 new releases in the past year.

Hey HDMark,

Really sorry for the late reply! This week for CineEtCie.ca is: Inglourious Basterds & Spaceballs for $13.99 (I hope this is the info you were looking for!). This too, will change next week with a whole new list of titles.

Thanks!
LG.
Wow! REALLY?!? I checked that site at least 3 times a day for the whole week and never saw the selection change from the week before... Public Enemies and Resident Evil (I think). And I used different machines, too.

Oh, well -- didn't need either of them anyway!

quick question, i ordered kung fu panda a wile back with the fast and the furious but was given no date for kung fu so i knew it was back ordered. Last week i got a email for kung fu saying my shipping date was feb 3, yet it has been a few days and nothing in the mail yet. Given my location, and how fast i have received my orders in the past from the date of transaction in the past (which is 3 days at most), i am wondering if the email sent to me was a mistake, given your information that kung fu panada is still back ordered...

My apologies for not informing you sooner...due to renegotiated contracts with the various studios, some of the prices on BR's have gone up $1-$2 bucks. This does not affect ALL titles, but unfortunately, it will affect some. But rest assured, the pricing will still be pretty competitive with that of other retail outlets and so on.

Thanks for all of your input on what titles you'd like to see...I've sent it over to our Product Dept and hopefully they can work some magic! These titles may not appear until March as it looks like we've missed the Feb deadline, so please keep a look out for March's options:)

Even if French is my main et 1st language, I actually prefer when the box is in English only.

The only reason I got it from Cineetcie was that back in December, only that site had it for 13.99$.

That's probably because they do like Amazon.ca.

They wait at the last minute to get the cheapest price possible near their sale price and then they place there order.

That's the only possibility I would say for a delay for something easy to manufacture like a movie that isn't even sold out or back order everywhere.

Sometimes, due to studio restrictions, we are able to offer a lower price for a movie on the french site, but not on the english site. There's not a whole lot we can do about this. That is why you might see a different price for the same movie on each of these websites. Keep in mind though, that with CineEtCie.ca, the majority of movies sold there will come to you with both French and English options to select from. It should indicate this in the details section for each title.

Thanks,

Nothing I could see, and I cant order anymore with the free shipping they removed Terminator, stupid thing. I cant see anything on chcanada.com at 13.99$
I hope next week is better, its been bad for the last few weeks.

can't we get Braveheart and Forrest Gump at Cineetcie.ca's price in chcanada.com, i would like to jump on that.

the versions on the french site are the standard bilingual versions you'd buy in Canada. The outside labels have english/french and the defualt language when played in a bluray players is English.

the French site is pretty much the same as the english one, so if you follow the menu's and fill in the boxes the same way, you can order from the french site as well.

I ordered Braveheart and Forest Gump from Cine with the free ship, very happy.. both have shipped, can't wait. I didn't have Braveheart on dvd.. dying to watch this one again.

Keep taking my money CH/Cine...

The two for this week are: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince & The Bourne Supremacy. I think the cover art for The Bourne Supremacy was not showing on the site which could be why you didn't notice it (if you aren't that fluent in French, like me). In french it is "La Mort Dans La Peau".

It looks as though I was sadly misinformed...I'm now being told that Zombieland was just reordered by our Purchasing Dept and won't be in stock for another 1 1/2 weeks.

Jennifer's Body should be back in stock by next week sometime, and I've been told that we have lost the rights to carry Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. I know this comes as a huge disappointment, and all I can do at this point is apologize for the inconvenience:(

One good thing to look forward to are the deals coming your way next week:

CHCanada.com - Star Trek and Zombieland (both will be $15.99 each)
CineEtCie.ca - Star Trek (will be $13.99) and The Hangover (will be $15.99)

LG.

Still waiting for Zombieland. Ordered on January 26th.

Are both of those the "Star Trek" from 2009? That's really tempting at $14 + 2. $16 + 2, not as much.

Also, does CineEtCie.ca have the same terms and conditions, shipping costs etc. as CHCanada.com does?

I keep hoping for District 9 and the remaster Gangs of New York to come up :)

its a shame zombieland and the hangover can't be for sale on the same website at the same time.. oh well.

edit: btw do you know if there's only hold ups with Clerks II... I ordered it on chcanada a week before I ordered Forrest Gump of the French Site, and FG was here earlier in the week.. and still no sign of clerks.

WTF kind of crap service is that? I pre-ordered Zombieland at 23.99 close to two months ago and yet to receive it...but now you're selling it at 15.99????
I mean, I'm going to pay $8 more for a movie that other people will probably get at the same time as me for cheaper. To add insult to injury, this was a b-day gift...now extremely late. What's worse is CH Canada refuses to cancel my order or swap the back ordered movie for something else. Sorry I'm shooting the messenger Lucky Gold and I much appreciate it when you give us updates but you do have to realize this is grade A crap service.

I really thought CH Canada was pretty good and "sold" it to a few other of my blu-ray owning friends. Not anymore. :(

You could do what I did and install Google Toolbar. It has a built in translator that you can run on each page which will re-render the page in whatever language you want. It's actually pretty good!

Yup! The S/H is the same on CineEtCie.ca. It also works exactly the same as it's sister site, CHCanada.com. Your best bet would be to order Star Trek from CineEtCie.ca since the price is lower...it will be the English version, but will have a French option in the menu.

Unfortunately, there is no free s/h being offered this week on either site.

Thanks,

Hey El Baz,

I realize that the delay you've experienced is not cool, so I do apologize for that. As far as pricing goes, you are welcome to PM me your account details so I can have Zombieland cancelled, and you can simply reorder it at the $15.99 price this week (unfortunately, with the new system, we aren't able to adjust the price of an already ordered selection). Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks,
LG.

The FS25 code should still be okay as it is an ongoing promo. The only difference is you have to order a minimum of $25 (before s/h & tax) to get the free shipping on your order. Just make sure the "free shipping" option is selected from the drop down menu upon check-out and you should be good to go!

Thanks,

Hey Tickyboy,

Are you referring to CHCanada.com? Or the regular Columbiahouse.ca?

For CHCanada.com, you can speak to someone about your account using the "LIVE CHAT" feature available on the website. If you have already ordered 2 movies since joining, then you have already fulfilled your purchase quota for the year. If you remain in the club, you just have to purchase 2 movies (any price) each year you remain a member.

For Columbiahouse.ca, you can PM me your Membership Number and order details so I can look into it for you OR you can call Customer Service at: 416-299-8181

Thanks,
LG.

Ha, if only it were that painless. ;) That's hardly much of a penalty since you could just sign up again next time you wanted to order something.

No, you either get dinged the annual membership fee (that's currently "waived") or they'll automatically charge you the balance of two regularly priced DVDs -- something like that.

So that's why shipping is 5.99 on cineetcie.ca? Because it is 3 discs (Is it even?)? Wow. I thought it was some first-purchase shipping fee or something. Kinda lame.

I think it's 2 discs + digital copy, so 3 in total. I don't think the package is any thicker though, or that it actually costs more to ship. Probably just automatically assigned by the system.

You're right, I just checked the T&C's - it's 2 x $4.99 + S/H + Tax, but you get a voucher to use against a purchase within 3 months of this happening....

Keep in mind that's the maximum, flat-rate shipping fee, though -- so if you were planning to pick up anything else (e.g. the other new release, The Hangover), you won't be paying anything extra.

For a single item though it really kills the deal -- especially if you've never bought at cineetcie.ca before, and now need to buy something else within a year (I assume the T&C are the same?). That may give you an incentive to buy Trek at CHC (even though it's $2 more), provided there's a 2nd title you want there, in order to get the free shipping.

Hmm Cirque du freak pretty good.

I was hoping the Alliance movies would be 4.99$ like FS/BB and BBV, any chances to see a price drop ?

The list is pretty long this week.

I'm thinking about getting

-Mr & Mrs Smith
-Kill Bill Vol 1
-Kill Bill Vol 2
-Righteous Kill
-Hostage

YES I do like the 2 last on the list. For Mr & Mrs Smith I've been waiting since December 2007 for the Unrated Blu-Ray version but it seems it won't happen anytime soon.

And has anyone successfully been able to PM CH Canada @ FS or BB ?

Hostage -> $5 at BB and FS if you can find it in store or buy online.
Kill Bill 1 or 2 -> Have been $10 numerous times at various stores

IMO .. CHCanada at one time had some good prices but now tables have turned and prices have dropped drastically in stores. Personally cancelled my account as I benefit more from instore deals now.

Sorry didn't meant to ruin the thread ..

Hey LG, any word on Transformers 2 yet from Cineetcie? It's been a heck of a while since ordering it and still no news. Do you know at what point they will refund my money? I was going to get it for $15 used but I wanted to make sure I can cancel my order first.

CH club has been an Epic Fail as of late.
I pre-ordered Zombieland in January and never got it at the time of the release date. I waited weeks and was told it was on backorder (don't forget, it was pre-ordered!)

Lucky Gold was good with me and had my account refunded and told me to re-order again as the price dropped to 15.99. I ordered two copies and well....waited and waited.

After weeks, I contacted a CH club member and I was told it was "out of stock"...weird considering there was never any stock.
I canceled that order too.

I just got Zombieland and District 9 at Rogers used for 2 for $30. Cheaper, still in great condition and no worries.

Anyhow, that's me venting about CH club considering it had started off well.
Not sure if anyone else have had this "back order" or "out of stock" issues lately.

LG mentioned in a post a month or so ago that Cineetcie has lost the rights to carry Transformers 2. I'm not sure if that is accurate or not, especially since they are still listing it on their site?!?

I'm still waiting on a replacement from Dec that was lost. You would think they would let all their customers know if that was the case, but perhaps I'm expecting too much.

Wow that sucks.

I've got mine 2 months ago and it's still sealed haven't had the time yet to watch it.

And the worse part, I didn't even know until recently that I also had it (part of the 5 free movies) on HD DVD in my collection.

Anyway I can be slow with some movies. Been over 8 months I have the Matrix Trilogy and I watch the 1st one only.

I'm with you too on this one. I buy movies for great deals but they sometimes stay on the shelf for a few months.
So, yeah, sometimes I'm in no rush to receive a movie. But it does irritate me that they charge your credit card immediately and ship the item 2-3 months later.

Out of stock or back order movies. Charging before shipping. Price increases on the sale items. Not sure if any of you remember this company but it sounds like DVDsoon to me. I know CH is Columbia House and would never pull a DVDsoon but its still scary.

The Hangover
Monsters vs. Aliens

Inglourious Basterds for SURE. I can't believe I missed out on this. Hangover would be a great deal as well, even though I didn't love the movie as much as others did - don't get me wrong, it was a good time, but I didn't think it was the greatest comedy of the year.

I'd also like to request The Assassination of Jesse James.

Mine arrived yesterday, but I got the shipping notice over a month ago. Seems to be a delay of several weeks after you get the shipping notice and when they ship it.

I don't have signifigant issues with backorders.. but they should probably add the info to their website so you know you're ordering a backordered item and maybe an eta.

It was pretty good when they'd put new releases on sale about 6-8 weeks after they came out. Now it seems like the titles on sale, are similar to the same ones that are cheaper everywhere else?

Dead. I don't even bother going on the website and ordering movies anymore after the crappy Zombieland service (waited almost 2 months and just decided to cancel it). The funny thing is about Zombieland was that I just had to wait 2 more months and get it for 12.99 at FS (PM from WM 14.99)

And yeah, all of the good "cheap deals" are pretty much accounted for at places like WM, FS and even BBV with Wolverine for $9.99.

It's too bad. It was good while it lasted and Lucky Gold has been very helpful to us.

I feel for you, man, but this is nothing new for CH -- I remember them doing this sort of thing almost 30 years ago when it was the Columbia House Record and Tape Club(!) and guys would fail to fulfill their membership obligation after receiving their initial shipment. You used to hear stories of guys having their credit record hurt by it. Nasty.

I have to say, though, that between the crappy website/storefront and all it's technical issues, the lack of consistency in updates, the poor customer service policies (not the fine folks on the front lines that pop in here from time-to-time, like LuckyGold and Dealsguy -- they're just trying to put out fires), seemingly complacent upper/middle-management attitude, mysterious shipping policies, title selection, massive supply problems (including studio "red tape") and recent aggressive pricing promotions by practically everyone else in the online/brick-and-mortar Blu-ray market, CHCanada has a lot of ground to make up.

I'm still a supporter because I tend to BUY movies much faster than I WATCH them, so long shipping times aren't a deal-breaker for me. But unless the people making the decisions as to what goes on "sale" get their act together and start putting out what would be considered "hot" items (like they used to do!) while they are still hot, and maintain some sort of consistency in their supply/shipping infrastructure, they aren't going to keep a loyal customer base. Just hit-and-run buyers.

But then I guess a company that's operated this way for 30+ years and is still in business has a hard time finding a reason to change...

Overall, nice to see some more titles added to the list, but still disappointed in the pricing and selection compared to when I started this thread. As the FS/BB/WM/etc competition continues, we'll see if I (and perhaps others) stay a member at CHCanada. :|

I hear ya on that one. CH Club was awesome at the beginning when you originally posted this. New releases for $14 and no commitment was pretty sweet. But in the past 6 months, every major retail store that sells movies dropped their prices as the same pace as CH Club (or shortly after). Some new movies released 3-4 months ago are already in bargain displays at WM and BB for $15 (ex: Zombieland, Jennifer's Body, District 9). It was only a matter of time before these stores did the same as CH Canada.

I don't know if you saw the movie already or not but i saw it recently it was fairly horrible... just in case if you havnt seen it.. if you have seen it and like it... take the above just as my opinion.

I have seen it. Yeah, not great, but I had a few laughs with it. At $13.99 I would buy it. At $23.99, it's not going to happen.

I think this is just another free shipping scam. Don't fall for it.

I did use the free shipping code way back in April and they still charged me shipping. When I called them after I got the bill, they denied there was a promotion at that time period. After Lucky Gold stepped in to confirm the promotion code was a valid one and offered a refund of the shipping, there is still NO sign of the refund after 2 MONTHS.

I will STOP ordering from CH and continue to review the situation until this is settle. Again, DO NOT FALL FOR THE FREE SHIPPING SCAM.

Ah, thats why !

LG there is a bug on cineetcie web site, when you do movies - blu-ray sort by price, only 9 movies appear at 13.99$, but when you type shutter or harry in the search they show up at 13.99$ and are not in the normal list.

P.S - The free s/h promo code for Columbiahouse.ca should have worked as long as you were not combining two different promos. We had it tested and each time it worked. If your experienced differed, please PM me your account/order details so I can have a look.

Hi There,

CHCanada.com is different than Columbia House in that, you are NEVER mailed any magazines/promotions, nor are you ever sent automatic shipments of movies or any other merchandise that you haven't asked for. There is no monthly card to reply to and no fee to sign up. You basically only get what you order and nothing more. All we ask is that you purchase 2 movies (any price point) within a year of joining. If you remain a member after that first year, then you just have to pick up a minimum of 2 movies per year until you decide to cancel your membership. Completing your membership is pretty effortless as our dvd prices begin at $5.99 and our blu-ray prices begin at $13.99. We also try to offer the latest new releases and best loved classics in a variety of genres.

We do send specials and promos via email, but you always have the option to "opt out" if you no longer wish to receive them.

Thanks!
LG.

DVD distributor closes its doors
Published On Thu Dec 09 2010
Valerie Hauch Staff Reporter

It will be the last Christmas party a week tomorrow for about 100 employees of Columbia House and Doubleday – but it may be more of a wake.

The employees at the 5900 Finch Ave. E. offices were summoned to a meeting yesterday and told by a representative from bankruptcy trustee Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. that the company, which operates under DB Media, was ceasing operations. The bankruptcy does not affect the company’s American operations.

Employees were advised to apply for EI immediately.

Later, outside the building, a number of employees told The Star that there had been rumours circulating for some time that the company was not doing well in a world dominated by services like iTunes, and might close.

Graphic designer Jeff Betts, who was hired in 2001, said company officials did everything possible to save the company, which sells DVDs, CDs, books and other products, but it just wasn’t enough.

``People like to get it for free on the Internet,’’ he said. ``The media we sell…it’s obsolete. It’s also the economy – it’s bad.’’

Betts, whose wife was injured in a car accident recently and who is the father of a 2-year-old, isn’t quite sure what he’s going to be doing in the future – but he plans to see his friends and fellow employees at the Christmas party.

``It’s already paid for,’’ he says.

Silvana Scalzo, 43, is a product manager and had worked for the company for 16 years. ``We’d been hearing things…but it’s still a shock. We’re a really tight group and I’m going to miss everyone.’’

Clarence Wong, 34, a products specialist had worked for the company for seven years and says he’ll ``definitely be spending less this Christmas.’’

Debra Hack, 55, a 20-year-employee, said she’s a little concerned about the pension plan. ``I’m hoping it’s going to be safe…but there’s been some chatter that we might lose a chunk of it.’’

Is it both columbia house's that went bankrupt? There's two in Canada? The one where you get a bunch of movies for cheap price, then the one this thread is about, where they just sell movies, without any intro deals or anything like that.

I guess Columbia House vs. CH Canada? I'm guessing it was Columbia House, no CH Canada that went under?

Dear Customer,

Please be advised that on December 9, 2010, DB Media, DB Media Distribution (Canada) (formerly The Columbia House Company (Canada)) and their related partners (hereafter referred to collectively as “DB Media”) were assigned into bankruptcy in Canada. Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. (“A&M Canada”) was appointed Trustee in Bankruptcy (“Trustee”) of DB Media’s estate.

As a consequence of the bankruptcy, we regretfully inform you that DB Media will not be fulfilling any customer orders through its book and DVD clubs as of December 9, 2010 as the Canadian operations have ceased. The bankruptcy of the Canadian operations was taken in response to poor economic conditions.

A&M Canada, serving as Trustee, is now in the process of collecting amounts owed to the book and DVD clubs. If you have an outstanding amount owing to DB Media, we would appreciate immediate payment of your account in full. Should you have questions regarding your account, please contact:

Regarding the DVD Club: 416-299-8181
Regarding the Books Club: 416-977-7891

The Trustee is also in the process of liquidating DB Media’s other assets. Proceeds will be used to reduce the company’s debt.

If you have any additional questions on DB Media’s bankruptcy, please call Nick Macoritto of the Trustee’s office at 416-847-5173. In addition, a website has been set up which will include notices, documents and other updates which may be of interest to you: www.alvarezandmarsal.com/DBMD.
