it was waaay overpriced to start.
8700 discount is a good start... but still not a bargain seeing how it's an 08.

Yeah, I think a fully optioned one ends up being $60k+ or something if you go by MSRP. But apparently there are people who pay C63 AMG money for a Mitsubishi.

I imported one from the US and saved about $9K in doing so. I love the car, but, of course, buying a new car is a poor financial decision!

But remember, no warranty for Mitsubishi on imported vehicles.

Hmmm, I must be stupid or something, because I cannot find in their site where it says $8,900 off their MSRP for an EVO X MR. Would you please point me to the page, thanks!

Its on their main page under Pre-Owned Vehicles, save $8700 though:

"2008 LANCER EVOLUTION MR was $53093 now $44393!!! Save $8700"

It's a start, I'm betting you can easily negotiate 10k+ off. They must have realized that noone is going to buy an Evo at 54k when you can get a 335xi for roughly the same amount.

I, for one, would rather have an Evo than a Bimmer or Benz, but hey, I am Asian...

I'm sure other car enthusiasts would agree as well though.

you must be eleven-teen.

those still into car-modification would agree.. but the older generation that has passed this phase will not agree.

simply put, those that want to pose, talk like they are paul walker, sure, great.. its a 4-wheeled-penis-extension.

for those that pay for their car and just want reliable power, without the dials/neons/and being called out by the JDM-police, they will take a proper german car, every time.

If you want to generalize - how about those who are under 60 and without 4 kids and a wife, would prefer a performance oriented vehicle rather than a luxuy sedan.

I wouldn't generalize that, since your statement represents a fairly low statistic.

I drive a STi and am friends with many others who drive STi's. The age of ownership on STi's and Evo's isn't just the younger crowd. Just in a small club I am in, there are many STi owners in the 30-60 range which would never touch a German car with a 10-foot pole. Yes they have kids, wife.etc

Don't generalize drivers of a specific car because it's not all true.

KawaiiTentacleBeast

Did you pay almost $60k for your STi? Evos and STis were cool back in the day when they were just fun little cars with big engines and didn't cost as much as an AMG Mercedes.

By that analogy, whoever drives a Merc is some grey-haired 60s years olds; excluding the SUV and C230 which is driven by middle-aged women. Which drives a BMW is a prick, although according to Top Gear they are recently switching to Audi. ;)

also remember the EP. of the Evo chasing and keeping up with the Lambo.
You're paying for the Perf. not status symbol(BMW).

I DO remember that episode, and they were testing the FQ400, not a regular Evo.

If you are paying almost the price of a C63 AMG or a CTS-V for a Mitsubishi econobox, you are definitely buying a status symbol.

ill take a infiniti or merc over anything else semi affordable...luxury + performance any day and im 23 for those wondering (meaning i cant afford either lol).

Why buy a car to mod and put (read lose) money into it if you're not gonna race track it for fun?! Most buy their crap and cruise around the city and on occasion theyre dumb enough to "race" on regularly populated streets.

Pass. Ill stick to a decent speaker system, good music and a quality ride.

lol @ mitsubishi for anything over 30k.

Haha no I didn't pay near half the price of a new one, I drive a 05 STi(favorably the best year made of it). Won't touch one of the new ones 08/09 with a 10-foot pole, I'd buy something else.
Evo's were good, the 8 and 9 for example with cast iron blocks, the EvoX is a heavy boat and nothing in comparison to it's predecessors.

Almost no teenager can afford an Evo, STi, S2000 or <insert other similar car>. That's why you see all those middle age dudes driving their Miatas and Z4s. Now and then, you'll see some teenager with one and you can bet your money that it was a present from daddy and mommy.

Actually this past season ended in December 2008, JM said that "cocks are no longer driving BMWs. They are now driving Audis"

At least according in GB. I prefer BMWs anyway.
I used to want to drive a LanEvo or STI, but I have come to a conclusion that they're still based on an econobox, just tuned to be a boyracer.

For the same money, I'd go with a 335i, more refined, softer ride. At least from I hear.

But if everyone drove the same car and had the same haircut, then we'd lose our individuality. I prefer 335, and just sharing my opinion. If you like the car go for it. Remember once you buy it, you have to live with it, cuz you can't return it for full refund. As it will be the 2nd most expensive purchase you make besides your house, aside from marriage/divorce.

I think a big majority of Evo and STi owners are 30+. I am over 30 with wife and mortgages. We have a SUV and a sedan, one owned and one financed. If I don't have to save $$ for the kids, I will definitely get an Evo as my toy car.

If you can negotiate 10k off the MR. I will say go for it. At least I would. But it's all up to personal preference.

how was the import fee?

$100 for air conditioning. 6.1% because the car was made in Japan. GST/PST (although these are less than if I had purchased in Canada). The fee to RIV.ca is also about $200.

I did this when the $CAN was in a much better position than it is now. I'm not sure it would be worthwhile now, especially since it's true that Mitsu canada will not honor the warranty.

And for the person who asked why buying a new car is a poor financial decision, I encourage you to research it yourself. But all you have do is look at the value of the car 5 years later to demonstrate the problem - basically throwing money away
