$100 parking ticket

So I got a $100 parking ticket today for obstruction of a fire route. This happened at Sheridan College Davis Campus in Brampton. For all the guys that go there, it's in that oval by the C-building. Anyways, I just wanted your opinion on whether to fight this or not. The reason is because Sheridan is so stupid that they sold more Parking Passes than there are spots. Their Security Personnel was actually the one who instructed me to park there since there are no more spots, although this was on a different day. Today, I just parked there with like 10 other cars, because the lot was just full. Not sure if they got tickets as well though. With all that said, do you think I have a strong enough case to fight it, or should I might as well bend over and pay the fee?

Did you block a fire route? Using "there was no where else to park" isn't going to help you out if you did.

i wasn't aware that it was a fire route, because it was actually the security people who told us to park there.

If it is clearly marked as a fire route, just pay it and learn your lesson. Just because security said you can do it does not make it legal.

That's bullshizz. The parking authority is liable. They oversold and gave OP permission.

If you remember who the attendant was, supoena them. :lol:

Always fight it. At worst, you might get the fine reduced. At best, you won't even get a court date. :twisted:


Was this on campus? Is it a City of Brampton ticket? Have you talked to the campus parking authority about this?

I am agreeing with Psubs here, but, I doubt that the security guy will testify to telling someone to commit the parking offence. You might get sympathy if you get some proof to back up your claim (like parking numbers / spots sold).

Was it the city that gave the ticket out or the school or the parking company?

For the over selling of the parking spots. Contact your student council. They are the ones that can bring up the complaint to the school. If it was the school/parking company that gave the ticket they may also plead your case.

It sucks but when someone tells you do do something as wrong as parking in a fire route you should not listen to them. Who are they to say it is OK to break such and important rule?

Are these numbered parking spots? Does anyone believe that if they have 100 parking spots, they should only sell 100 parking passes? One person might park there in the morning and someone else parks there in the afternoon, of course they are going to sell more parking passes then they have spaces. Not everyone is going to be there at the same time. Using that as an excuse won't get you very far.

I just found out that it is the school that gave me the ticket. I'm gonna have a word with security tomorrow.

It is a city of brampton ticket and it was on campus. I'm gonna talk to them tomorrow.

cuz i happen to know for a fact that security is the one that wrote you the ticket.
why would he tell you to park there and then write you a ticket unless he really want to screw you over?

a fire route is described as anything that would obstruct an entrance to a building, so anything that is not designated parking can be considered a fire route.

there's no use talking to security about it, it's a City ticket and it's been submitted.

if you want to argue it, just fight it in court.
having said that, i've always submitted court notices on parking ticket and have not paid one in over 5 years. they never send me the notice to appear, that's why i never pay for parking on the street anymore but mine are usually $30, so yours might be treated differently.

I agree, always fight it. I once fought a $30 ticket (I had too much time on my hands), and told the judge my wife was in doing her makeup, so the meter couldn't have run out by more than a minute or two. He knocked it down to $6

exactly my point, they made me park there together with 10 other cars just lined up because there are no more "designated parking spots" available. I'm just going to hope that mine gets treated the same as the $30 parking tickets.
